    You got 13v at idle. The bike needs to run longer with max draw (at idle) because the voltage will decrease as the battery charge is depleted. The best I can do is 13.2 for my max draw on the trail. Test with the optimate charger. Of the several battery levels, optimate should show your battery starting the full or top level light. From there it will further optimize the battery. I figured I'm under the max stator draw at top level of charge. If the battery is down to 3/4 or 1/2 when you plug in the charger, the battery will be constantly depleted on the bike with that much power draw. Thanks for doing this test, not knocking all your hard work, just my experience.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  Před rokem +2

      No, good info. I will be testing more for sure. But with the new battery (anti-gravity AG-801) the bike fires much faster and those batteries (in my experience) are more robust and tend to take a charge better. Also, I don't plan on having a fan and light on at the same time very often if ever. I can always turn the light off if I am in a really gnarly situation and after it is dark I don't plan on much hard enduro. Also, based on Moto Minded's test with a real load tester, the wattage drawn by these two units is still under what they show it produces. The light is only 20watts and the fan is 15 so that is a total of 35 (I know you could do that math too LOL) and this stator should have around 30 to play with. So that is a little more and could draw the battery eventually but again, I don't see needing them both at the same time very often or for very long. I set my fan temp at 200 to keep the sucker off most of the time. But, you are right in general, I just think this will work for my application and probably a lot of people's. All that being said, If I can get the stator re-wound, I am going to do it.

    Phil's tusk fan controllers go bad, My second one went bad in just a couple months, And it would run the fan intermittently when the bike was off, Just happened to hear it doing so 1 day, I scrapped the idea of getting a third one, And my new fan is plugged directly into the bike ECU. It comes on at 180° and works perfectly.

    I saw similar results when idle testing, but when actually using the bike I ran into issues. Idle testing with 28-30watt light (cyclops adv) on, we saw 13.1-13.2. When I used the light though in a night race, it was fine for lap 1 of 48 minutes. Took my break as another rider went out, and after he did his lap I went out for another night lap. 38-40 minutes into that lap bike was bogging and sounded like a plug was going to foul. Looked at my light power switch and it was showing weak/low battery. Turned off the bike light and went with only helmet light, and as soon as bike powered light turned off (light is wired straight to battery), bike went back to running awesome. Seems like even though it looks good at idle something is going on after long use. Also this was a faster Offroad race not a slow enduro

I haven’t blown any coolant out yet that I’m aware of and I’m not sure what you would have to do to get these bikes to overheat. It’s good to know that I could run a fan if it ever turns out I need one. I’ve got a 23 250 XC on the way that I’ll be calling to get some parts for. Hey Morgan, now that there is a new OEM fan kit listed in the KTM/Husky catalog, it would be great to see how it works. What's weird is that the online manual for the part only describes directly plugging into the harness for the ECU to control, yet for the XC bikes the websites state that 2 additional parts are needed to power the fan from the battery along with a kill switch.

    Yep good test try -but in real world enduro/extreme enduro riding you will be repeatedly restarting the bike and that starter draw (which is way way more than any fan and headlight) combined with the Fan and Headlight will definitely pull your your Battery slowly down to an unuseable point-the proof right there is that you only had 13.1 /13.2 on your voltmeter....as another guy mentioned thats too low to charge the lithium battery, and that was without any repeated starting which pulls out more than 80 amps per start !!
    Its just not going to hold its own in real world riding scenarios -as riders have already experienced.

I am going to turn the temp down to 100 and turn the light on and go ride soon to do a real torture test and see if you are right. I won't be re starting a bunch but I will do it some to test the system. That other comment about charging the battery is a bit off. He was talking about LiFe batts and this is a Lithium Ion which does require different charging. I actually don't think they cut back on the wattage for money (maybe) but to get the crazy over rev that these bikes have. If you have a stronger stator you usually end up with stronger magnets which pull the motor down. I am really personally not concerned because I have a bike with plenty of wattage and a fan and a light and carries a chainsaw. This really is just my race bike so It doesn't bother me. I am just trying to test things for people. I have been running with the light on constantly and have had no ill effects like another guy said. It has been perfect.
