  • I still have a some older VHS tapes, with recordings that I have never been able to find anywhere else. And some old home recordings from when I was,, a very young man.
    This little very affordable USB EasyCAP USB2 Video Capture card does the job, but I did run into another problem.,, witch was not amazing!!
    I did a video on this "EasyCAP" USB Capture device, and I was using it with Windows 7. I have had many questions on that rather popular video,, if this would work on Windows 10 ? I never tried it on Windows 10 so I decided to try this out. Let me just admit that it works fine on Win10,,

    I just started doing this when I get a strange CD like that and making an iso of it and filing it away on my NAS for the situation that you just had. I had a skydiving video I thought I lost for like 15 years and it magically appeared so I immediately dumped it into my NAS spawning the idea.

    Color issue at 19:16 looks like what you get when selecting a wrong video standard (such as SECAM instead of PAL, or vice versa). Maybe the dongles are not really identical, and when swapping these around you also need to install drivers from the matching CD for the dongle, while the mismatching driver doesn't set the standard correctly for the dongle it's not meant for.

    I was the reseller of EasyCap and I can give you some info.
    There are MANY easycap in the market (at least 10)..... because of cost, some of them just use cheapest software and chipset. The one you show is not the best, but lucky not the worst. I know some easycap have NO AUDIO CHIPSET in the motherboard (simply use PC's audio system to capture ). Then the audio quality is not good and video and audio generated is not match.
    Better Easycap using empia 286X chipset, this one is stable and picture quality seems ok, (empia is the best, STK is next) and if you are lucky , easycap can run in a MAC PC, not just WINDOWS. (usually empia chipset easycap can run on mac machines)
    Software should come with Ulead Video editing software with UNIQUE serial number, which come with the CDROM paper label, not printed on the CDROM disk.
    If you want to buy better easycap, hope above information can help you. Good Luck !

    Hi Morten, you may be able to fix the audio. In the Windows Audio Settings. By turning down the main audio input. Allot of the software, that comes with these devices. Has it's own separate audio volume control. You may get better looking video. By using the MP4 Codec. You shouldn't need PAL, if you are going to be playing the file, on a Computer or TV. But, someone else, mentioned. There is a chance. That the early 80s or 90s copyright protection, is causing those moving color lines. Depending when that VHS Tape was made. They use to sell VHS Copy Boxes, that could fix that. And Oscilloscopes could be used, to correct the Video Signal, back in the day. In the USA, it was or is legal, to make 1 "Backup Copy" of a Video Tape or DVD or Blue Ray, which you own. Is usually sate this, on the the copyright notices. But, the manufacturers. Do make it as hard to do, as they can. Not worth it to me. Unless it is a Video that I Shot my self. Then, there's no Copyright Protection Problem, when Backing it up. Also, I have never followed those "Turn of you Virus Protection" Messages in Software Installations. And I don't remember ever having a Problem installing the Software that comes with a Device. But, I have seen 5 or more files infected with Trojan Viruses. That came with an OBD2 USB Auto Scanner, from China. It was on the CD they Provided with their "Free Software"... Thanks for sharing these videos, with us... Don

    I wonder how much data does it takes to copy a 60min of Video8 tape to a hard drive? We have an archive of home videos I’d like to digitize.

    • @michaelwill1337
      @michaelwill1337 Před 4 lety +1

      When you initially record the file, it will be large. A 30min video from a capture device using a VCR could be upwards of 1GB. So to answer your question, about 2GB for 60min. However the settings you choose, and if you chose to go S-Video... it could be larger. Once you have recorded the footage you want, you can re-encode that file to be much smaller while preserving the visual and audio quality. I can get that same 30min video down to 340MB once I pass it through Handbrake, and I can't notice any loss in quality when used with the right settings.
      One more thought.. I am assuming the video8's you have are from the 80's or 90's. Depending on the storage of them, they may be near the end of their life. I would hop on the opportunity to digitize your archive now, rather than later. Who knows, this may be the last year that the tapes will still be good enough to run through a player. The film starts to fall apart over time. Once that happens it is very difficult if not impossible to revive the tape to get the footage from it. Best of luck.

    • @gregghernandez2714

      There is a company called Acoustica which makes some really great audio software including Mixcraft, they also make a great software program called Spin it Again. It not only works for vinyl, but it also works great for cassettes. If you are only converting cassettes to either MP3 or WAV files, then you probably don't even need a pre-amp. You would just hook your cassette player into your sound card and you should be good to go. I use it mainly for my LP collection but I have used it for cassettes too. There was a band called The Rainbirds, and for the life of me I could not find the CD back in the day. So I used this program to record it to a CD, and the sound is pretty incredible, you could not tell that it was not a factory CD. It has some great filters for removing hiss, noise, rumble etc. No I do not work for them, I just like mentioning great products when I find them. Just go to Acoustica's website, and you will find it in their products menu.

    Man that thing is a piece of crap.. So cheap u even bought another for the disc.. The audio is terrible, and the frame rate is choppy.. Constant frame dropping.. Go with cheap, you get cheap results.. Spend somewhere around $150 or $200, you'll get better results.. I have my device that upscales VHS to 1080p at 30fps and 720x1280 at 60fps.. Records directly to flash drive.. no computer needed... That only records at 30fps and no more than 720.. Any of those cheap devices that connects to USB you're going to loose frames and quality..
