      Nope. They are nichrome wires. They are high temp wires that can't withstand high temperatures inside the kiln. And I get my work fired at 900-1000 degrees C.

    • @nehagopinathpillai
      @nehagopinathpillai  Před 4 lety

      Thank you so much! You can try using fevicryl acrylic hobby ideas paint (not soft colors). When I use to live in India, I would only prefer that. It works great on terracotta. In Bangalore, I tried a gold paint that was available in hardware stores. It was a brand called eagle germann gold paint that was water based and dries very fast and also water proof. But again this was a few years back, not sure if that's still available. But the metallic gold paint too works well. When you get your pieces fired black it's a little more difficult to paint. You can try getting it fired in a kiln so that you get that terracotta color. Very similar to how clay pots vases etc are fired. The outcome is a terracotta color which absorbs paint better.

    • @nehagopinathpillai
      @nehagopinathpillai  Před 4 lety +1

      That could be happening due to the pendants drying quickly. The bend that you see in your pieces is called warping. you can try slow drying your pieces by covering it with a thick sheet of plastic. Don't dry your work under a fan or sunlight. Let it dry slowly.

    Is it terracotta beads too at the back to adjust the length?

      That's a wooden bead I added at the end to adjust the length of the chain. The black beads that on the sides of the pendant are terracotta.

      The variety is immense. You can use any style cord that meant for jewelry making. Nylon cords, doris, thick threads (which are strong), braided cords etc. It's totally ones own individual choice. If you look up online, there is a lot of variety available for jewellery makers.

      I don't think so. It might not achieve optimum firing. That way the result would be compromised. I suggest getting it done at a pottery studio

      I use a black nylon cord 3-4mm in thickness. I didn't buy them online. It's much cheaper in fancy stores. I bought mine in bulk the last time I was in India. Picked it from a store called MK fancy in Jayanagar 4th block complex, Bangalore
