Can I just say how much I appreciate Jamie giving a voice to the CZcams comments section by badgering Alec in real-time as he struggles with things?
He should be officially nominated as our shitpost ambassador. A first step to a new amazing era.
I think we'd all love to see you make your father an entire set of carving and shaping tools out of damascus
Alec's dad is very charismatic and camera friendly. I can imagine him hosting a woodworkers' TV series.
I was just lonely and decided to check Alec's channel and here we are
Just finished watching.... Man, we need more of your Father's presence. What a lovely man.
Indeed, Papa Steele is the nicest and has such a calm voice and demeanour. Absolutely wonderful
A child building something with their dad is such a wonderful thing.
@@EFHmusic
Alec will always be his father's child. That's why I worded it that way.
Seriously, if every dad looks at his kid with the same pride as Alecs dad does, we would live in a world of peace.
im a 33 year old man and i lost my dad to heart failure when i was 17...here i am today a youtuber too and wished that i could still have my dad with me. Enjoy every single waking moment with your parents Alec. Make sure those memories last a lifetime buddy...believe me.
His father is the prime example of what I would believe a retired gentleman from England would be like. Very soft spoken with a sweater vest and cap
Hard not to imagine him driving an old Triumph or Morgan down a lovely English B-road.
As an Englishman from the next county over, I completely agree, although his accent sounds a bit too posh to be a carpenter by trade.
Notice that Alec's dad wears the sigil ring that Alec made 2 years ago
how wholesome
(and we need more projects of you two, that was great)
Thank you for spotting that. I have asked several times how his Dad reacted to the beautiful ring!
I am living for this “Alec and his dad” content. Clearly you inherited your love of craftsmanship from him, and in turn you’ve passed that inspiration on to so many of us, so from all of us 👋 thank you Mr. Steel
Alec: Are these rungs or rails?
Dad: Rails.
Alec: Well, we'll call them rungs.
Dad: No, I don't think we will.
even alec steele knows his dad got more knowledge then he does ahahaha
The contrast of the calmness of his dad and him jumping everywhere is awesome
We now have a good idea of what Alec was probably like, when he was a 14-year old.
Alec's dad seems like he would really be a patient teacher. Explains Alec's love of working with his hands.
Alec's Dad is as charming, intelligent, and skilled as Alec! Such a treat to see you two working together!
Being a father myself, I'm confident in saying that your dad is probably immensely proud of you and elated to be crafting this with you. I can only imagine that overwhelming feeling.
"Did you leave the elbow grease back in the workshop?"
what an amazing zinger by jamie!
Alec’s Dad clearly hinting for grandchildren with that babies chair 😂.
"Did you leave the Elbow Grease back at the workshop?"
Someone arrest that man for murder.
Alec's dad should have his own documentary style youtube channel. "History of chairs and how to build them with Mr.steele"
@@procedupixel213 well you can see how that could easily be misconstrued to mean something entirely different hahahaha
All filmed from a distance and round corners as if he wasnt aware they were there.
As a woodworker who has enjoyed watching your metal work, this is probably my favorite episode/build that you've ever done! Amazing craftsmanship! Both you and your father are awesome!
Such an interesting process. Great to see you working with your old man. I would definitely be interested in seeing more videos with you both in.
Draw knife, spokeshave, shaving horse, froe ... even splitting logs by hand. Your dad is as a true craftsman as it gets. No wonder you're who you are today, Alec! :)
This is the collab that we've all been waiting for! So glad to see it!
Protect Alec's dad at all costs. Also, make him start his own youtube channel.
Dogo in the background looking around like: "Why they building a chair when I still only have 1/4 of a house???"
My dads from England, I was born in the states. It was so relatable to here Alec’s dad keep correcting him when he said rear legs. It’s such a British dad thing.😂
Your father is the most english person I've ever seen👌 good stuff here
Seeing Gervas, the house and the wood workshop brings back a lot of fond memories! I'm very glad he's doing so fine and you get to spend some quality time together in these trying days!
This was incredible! I want to learn more about green woodworking, would love to see a video featuring Mr Steele Senior where we learn about the wood in-depth: splitting, when to carve, how to dry, all that good stuff
I love how his dad just sits there and looks at Alec like,"mmmmmmm yess smashing old chap"
Hello Mr Steele. Pleasure to see you make something with Alec. He’s told us all repeatedly how good a woodworker you are.
I would absolutely love seeing Alec teach his dad some things around the forge. He already has such a creative mind and understands form and craft, I think ye would pick up on it very easily. And then after that, you two combine your efforts to make a wood and metal piece that combines both your passions.
John Alexander went by Jennie Alexander later in life. A new edition of Jennie’s book, Make a Chair from a Tree, will soon be published by Lost Art Press. The book describes the construction of this very sort of chair.
We finally see a video where Alec and his Dad make something!!
He needs to be the commentary for a nature documentary 😂
Bruh this dude could tell me about anything and id listen.
"Now the uranium gets put in these little pallets and if you look here, this is one i made by hand back in Pensylvania with the great Sir Dr. Manuel Caprice who was the great grandson of Marie Curie" is something im totally ready to hear from the dude
As someone who has been without my father for nearly 20 years, this video has brought a smile to my face and tears to my eyes. Good on you Alec, going back home to be with your family, great video and can’t wait to see the next one. Cheers from Louisiana.
Cherish these moments with your dad and learn all you can. I spent a good bit of time with Grandfather in his shop and miss it dearly. There's something quite special about working with your family.
This just made me smile ear to ear throughout the entire video. I LOVE how these two ARTISTS and true CRAFTSMEN showcasing, passing on, and sharing their amazing skills. I LOVE the beginning where you guys go over so many styles and techniques, and a brief history too. So fascinating. This has to be one of my favorite videos on this channel ever. AWESOME!! Thank you Steele Dad and Son for sharing this gem of a video.
And man, that's also a beautiful workshop too.
Huge props to the DAD for teaching Alec early (like that shaving horse jig, with an attachment where little Alec could reach of which now grown Alec STILL uses @ 9:49 LOL hahahaha, and mini-Alec pics with power tools).
Man, this makes me miss my dad so much, I really miss working with him. Treasure your parents while you still have them.
I’m sorry for your loss. The only positive I could say is that your dad must’ve been a fantastic father and friend to be so well loved and missed so dearly.
Same. Alec is the absolute double of his dad, guy clearly did a great job raising him. Great to watch, look how proud he is.
For me it was my granma and granpa. My father is ... meh ...
When we build something and I didn't do in the perfect way at first try it always was "You are doing it wrong, you can't do it. Step back, I will do it!"
Alecs dad has the energy of my granpa. Very lovely and down to earth. Don't know how my dad became how he is. Maybe his 12 years of military service are the culprit...
This was a tearjerker of video for me to watch!!! I've seen pretty much every video since you were way back in your first shop! And this is the first time you and your father have worked together in a video.. it solidifies everything I've ever thought about your skills.. your dad is a great artist, and maker. you have carried it down, and brought it back full circle to him being in your videos!! you guys should make as many videos as you can! A full-blown blacksmith/ woodworker build would be amazing to watch!! Projects such as kitchen tables with wrought iron features and Wood construction would be great... Or even better you make the tools that he makes the chairs with!!?? A handmade table and chair set with wrought iron features fit for A King!!...????
Great comment , Gong... Watching this work in the recent year has inspired me to buy a mig welder and today painted my rebar 5 ft high corner spiders web with spider. watching more welding videos' isn't going to improve my welding. but Alex has chosen projects that I like and hes very good , the marathons . yes im watching it again.
I enjoy how after all these years you are still learning from your father. A master craftsman. More videos of you and him with his expertise would be fantastic!
I'M HERE FOR A 23 PART STORY ARC WITH THIS EXQUISITE MAN!
Dam, someone get this man his own channel. Alec I hope you show your Dad some of these comments, huge support
A series on makers like your dad would be awesome. True craftsmen and women should never be lost to time or convenience and bespoke items are works of art.
Great to see green woodworking being prompted in a fun and educated way to a younger audience... although the craft is making a comeback, in a digital age it's proving hard to capture the interest and inspire younger generations. Thank you and well done Alec and Dad.
I could listen to your father talk about chairs for hours!!
So funny how your dad kept saying 'back legs' and you absolutely refused to say anything but 'rear legs' hahaa
I love this. As a woodworker, I really enjoy each time you flex those woodworking muscles & branch out into non-metal arenas.
As a furniture maker, please do more of these! Greenwood is a unique building style that just simply isn't around today. Very cool to see the process and how it differs so much from modern craftsmanship.
9:49 I love the shot of Alec working very hard with his dad sitting in the background!
Loved that. 8:47 And also it is awesome to see father and son working together
Can we get more of Alecs dad, he is clearly very knowledgeable and cool
The environment used to film in this video is just so relaxing and inspiring. So clean and just beautiful. Most favourite video anywhere so far
6:28 Love how British this interaction is.
Also, your father seems like a natural teacher
One of the most entertaining episodes ever. Just so wholesome
DAD needs a you tube channel i would watch all of them. TAKE EVERY MINUTE WITH YOUR DAD IF YOU CAN THERE NOTHING LIKE GROWING UP WITH OUT ONE LOST MY DAD IN 1973 I WAS 4 THANKS ALEC FOR THE VIDEO
Alex’s Dad is a true craftsman. His chairs are awesome. I can’t wait for the next part.
Cherish every moment you can with your dad (and mum) -- once they've gone off to the ages, things change.
I miss my dad every day.
Ok this was by far one of my favorite videos you've made in a while, your father is a remarkable craftsman and its pretty clear where you get it from ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jamie's quips at Alec really make me laugh. 😂
I really like this one. There is always something special about a boy doing a project with his dad. You could be 40 years old at the end it is still a boy and his dad doing something together. Special moments and thanks for sharing. Ps your dad seems the epitome of a proper english gentleman.
this was the best. my grandpa was a cabinet maker. this makes me want to go up and have him teach me to make my own cabinet. honestly it would be amazing to have an excuse to see him regularly again and i need an alcohol cabinet that fits my huge amount of bottles and shows them off nicely too. thanks man
So very cool that he and his father both have similar trades where they both swing a big sledgehammer. Awesome. You're father is a very humble man. Great video
More of this, please. Show us more chair building and other “older” arts from craftspeople around your home.
Your farther is the best role model anybody could ask for.
The dog just chillin' in the sand box or whatever garden box that is, was just awesome!
needed a bit of happy today. seeing alec and his father being wholesome definitely hit the spot
Can see where alec gets his craftsmanship and personality from!
Regardless of the project, it's final outcome, or intended use, the fact that you can and have taken time to do something like this with your dad is by far the best project ever. So many of use don't do this when we can and only realize what was lost when it's too late. Great job both of you, and do it again whether it's for a video or not.
Two generations of great craftsmen but greatest of all, a father and a son crafting together
Alec's dad showing his projects was so wholesome :-)
Father and son working together with mutual respect there’s nothing better on CZcams thank you
The art of passion applied to craftsmanship is a dying thing and it's so nice to see this . Cheers Alec and Da!
It's impressive to hear that they speak kind of the same way: all the intonations, pauses, notes, etc.
Surprisingly amusing !
Mr.Steele sounds so classy, no wonder hearing whom Alec Steele got it from :D
All woodworking youtubers holdings their breath incase Alecs dad starts a CZcams channel!
I'm really excited about this one. I love me some wholesome family videos. Nothing but knowledge and respect for your wiser elders. Just awesome Alec. I'm also a woodworker, but I mostly build houses, decks, and additions. Great work bud. Huge fan
When you said your father was a hobbyist woodworker I never expected such magnificent works of art! I am a professional woodworker and have no idea how to do green woodworking, props to your dad for taking on a very obscure but amazing field of woodwork! I think we need a few more videos of you and your dad designing things where you forge some metal components and he makes the wooden parts, think of the possibilities!
This is so beautifully shot and edited that when I pressed play I just screamed "Holy Moly, dear come see how gorgeous is this" my wife gave me a weird look after understanding what I was talking about, but agreed after checking it out.
Alec, this man is a treasure. He needs his own series!
Alex's dad seems like a great person to raise a child. We need to see more of this guy hes an inspiration to all
So nice to see a project with your dad. Just got done doing some plumbing with mine. Treasure it while you can. And Alec, if you put the blue tarp under the shaving horse, clean up will be a treat as you like to say. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing the next video with your dad!
Your father seems like a wonderful, amazing human being - and I now see where you get la lot of your positive characteristics. I would be so proud to have a dad like yours Alec :)
I'm studying to be a carpenter and seeing this is just awesome for several reasons. Also seeing how you split the logs to the right dimensions is just awesome. I've learned several new things from this video
As a woodworker that has supported the channel for a long time, I love this. Cool project and overall just a wholesome video
Alec, your dad seems like quite a character. Thanks for doing this "collaboration" series with him. God bless~
I waited for this for so long... Beautiful
your father is much older then average... that explains all the wisdom you have aquired!
well done dad!
Jamie needs to document Alec's dad making a chair.
You can see where Alec gets his teacher's mode from.
Great video.
Cheers from Tokyo!
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that Alec's dad is every bit as interesting and talented as him, and he's had a lot more years to perfect those talents.
Those chairs are marvelous, and the technique is astounding. I love the greenwood approach of letting the wood define the final shape to a certain extent.
You can see the pure joy flowing out of both of them as they are crafting this beautiful piece together, its phenomenal to watch the passion they both have for the it. Perfection.
You are so lucky to have such a lovely dad mate . I would have paid attention in class if he was my teacher 😃
Your dad looks so happy to have you work with him in his shop again, that's adorable
It’s awesome you get to share a project with your dad. I try all the time to do things with my kiddo. It’s something I never did Enough of. Cherish it it might be frustrating but it’s well worth it.
We finally get to meet some of the Steele family
Fantastic artwork! Your father is an excellent teacher!
Its great to see a young guy find professional success but not let the important parts of life slip! It's great seeing your dad work and I look forward to more content like this
Your dad is just awesome. 100% we need more content with him in it. Reminds me of my own father.
Anybody else think Alec's dad should do a couple of videos on the projects he's done?👍👍
