@@lunagarcia6252but Halle is more of a singer than a actress. At least that’s how she became famous. She and her sister were a Grammy nominated R&B duo known as Chloe x Halle. She had the voice I would expect anyone who plays Ariel or who can actually sing like Jodie Benson should have.

My favorite movie of 2023 . I’ve watched it about 7 times now.

Saw it in theaters 5 times. And then purchased it digitally and watched it on Disney+ multiple times. Pretty sure my count is 20+ times. 😂 But this movie never gets old. Definitely a classic and definitely my favorite movie!!! Just an overall masterpiece 😍

I think the sea shells as a bra made more sense. And I wish we could’ve seen Ariel in the transformation dress and the wedding scene from the cartoon
I feel like they really didn't make sense to keep in this version, for practical reasons but also comfort-wise. Having something very hard and non-conforming provide support/covering for your breasts imo would be quite uncomfortable, especially to wear 24/7. And this is coming from someone who ditched bras altogether 6-7 yrs ago. But also, in this version, the mer-people don't wear clothing at all outside of armor, like what Triton wore. They were all very natural, almost animal-like. Their only covering was their scales that came in a variety of patterns and shapes like fish. Which is similar to other depictions of mermaids in pop culture where they only have long hair to cover their chests, but no clothes or anything clothing-adjacent. Now, Ariel's first time wearing clothes (which is uncomfortable for her) is when she comes to land, which further juxtaposes the land & underwater worlds from her perspective & provided a new experience totally different from her old life to encounter. She even questions it in the song 'For the First Time', realizing there's a lot she didn't know & now has to adjust to while also re-adjusting her expectations, as she finally got what she wanted (to be on land) and now has to accept everything that comes with it, facing realities she's never considered before even if uncomfortable. Also, Ariel's original shell bra was strapless lol. Idk if you've ever been in a body of water, especially the ocean, with a normal bikini top...but accidents & slipups happen all the time irl. I can't imagine what two hard, weighted, strapless pieces of material would do in water while swimming around quickly or in the midst of a strong wave/current. Plus, as a kids/family friendly movie I don't think a character wearing essentially a strapless bikini top would go over well, bc there was definitely a bit of cleavage in the animated version. Which was fine for a cartoon, but a live-action MC? In a Disney princess film, no less? Who's also a teenager? Not so much I think. The scaley covering they chose more resembled a bandeau, which is a bit more modest for the girl.
@eternityriley1833 exactly and They actually edited her chest as well, she would've had a decent amount of cleavage even in the top that she wore. She's supposed to be 16 in the film even some 16 year Olds are kinda stacked. I'm speaking from experience. I was 14 with DD's. It's something about not having big tits with tons of cleavage when you are referring to a 16 or old, not to mention she got tons of backlash for her body in bikini's on social media. They toned her body down

Movies like snow white, sleeping beauty, the little mermaid, rapunzel don't revolve around their race or culture specifically. The only Disney movie with a white character that cannot be changed because of culture a d race is "brave" it's culture and race centered, every other Disney movie with white characters are not. When they make a live action Princess and the Frog, Wish, Cocoa, or Moana, and make them white, trust me, there would be a HUGE backlash from those of color. Most of these legends are real folklore, came from a specific country, and are written with descriptions of the characters. I’d say that Frozen wouldn’t matter, but it’s obviously set in Norway, and the majority of people there are white with light hair, it’s just how it is. The other problem with Snow White is that they didn’t even hire actual little people to play the roles of the dwarves. There are many little people that act, and they didn’t get a chance. Im just saying, when the shoe is on the other foot, don’t get upset when Merida is anything but a white, Irish woman.

Snow white is about having white skin, anybody can have white skin. They can get an albino black girl and she can be Snow white? So it's not far fetched for a Columbian to be Snow white. Her skin being white is all that matters, not as in race. Just a fair complexion.
Coco is centered on being Latino, Mulan on being chinese, Tiana, black, pocahontas, native American, Moana, pacific islander, Merida, irish or Scottish? I believe. Either way, the culture and history is important to the script. Tiana can't get the restaurant because she's black and in 1920s new Orleans where racism, discrimination etc. Is still prevalent, she grew up in sharecroppers cabins because her ancestors were enslaved her friendship with lottie a white woman is weird, the hoodoo and voodoo aspects of it. If you make her white, she's no longer Tiana and the story doesn't make sense. If they tried to make Mulan, a Chinese woman from the wei dynasty and made her black, it would not work, if they took Moana and made her middle eastern it wouldn't work. If they tried to make Merida asian or maibel a pacific islander it wouldn't work.
Their background is a huge part of the story, not just certain features thar anyone could have regardless of race. So yes there would absolutely be backlash.

I have heard a whole lot of bad comments about this picture, that it ain’t the story from cartoon, like characters aren’t not up to standard of characters from the cartoon, but… I think it’s very gorgeous and magnificent film. It’s fantastic and probably the best one that I’ve even watched from Disney. I’m into mermaids a bit😁 but truth be honest, the picture is very great and the actress is beautiful and all characters are entirely fit for this movie. I’m impressed about new technologies as well. The original Little Mermaid is far from being a dark tale. Dark would be the Brothers Grim versions of fairy tales. While there was unrequited love, there was genuine friendship between the prince and the little mermaid. He trusted her and kept her close. When he was getting to be of marrying age, he was to choose a bride and said he would marry her because she reminded him of the girl from the holy temple. He thought this other girl was the one who rescued him from the shipwreck. I won't spoil the end for those who want to read it. It's a very short tale. And it has a happy ending but not in the way we would expect.

Like I said I watched the movie and I couldn't stop watching it. I loved how they remade it . But I do wish they would of kept some scenes and lines in it. Like Ariel lines and scuttle lines and the scene where the chef was trying to cook Sebastián. And yes I her transformation dress when they first dressed her and her dress at the end when she comes up out the water and I do wish they would kept the way Eric finds her one the rock when he first sees her. But I do like the way they re did it. Not bad at all I think Halle did just such a excellent job which in my heart when they first announced that she would be playing the part i knew she would kill it and she did. Very proud 👏 of her

How come this wasn't on the DVD? I rented the DVD from my local library and was disappointed to see that there were no behind the scenes on it. I was interested in knowing how the director did everything especially making it look like they were swimming.

I prefer the Broadway musical and I really wish that it had been a live action remake movie of The Little Mermaid.
It was so many things in the Broadway musical that I loved.
