My grandparents were doll collectors, and so I played with dolls all the time and I didn't think any were creepy at the time. (look up "humpty dumpty circus schoenhut clown" if you want something out of nightmares) That is except for one. When I was probably 5th grade, my 2 cousins and I were playing in the basement when one says, "wait wasn't that doll smiling?" we look and this doll looks like she is about to cry. We freak out and try to appease it, talk to it, whatever. All 3 of us were convinced this this was possessed, and we might die. At some point, it's expression changed back to happy. After we calm down a bit, we show our grandma who says it's called "Cheerful Tearful" and it's expression changes when you move one of it's arms. I'm still not ok 20 years later

Should also mention that when they stopped collecting, a lot of the dolls went to my aunt who lives in the middle of nowhere, north woods Wisconsin. We had to sleep in the basement with a dozen antique dolls staring at us. I tried turning them to face the wall, but that only helped slightly

As much as I love Stevie, I need to tell you that Hugo was marketed aggressively towards boys. He was supposed to be a spy/master of disguise, and you were his spymaster. How do I know this? I got one for Christmas that year. I was seven. I was ultimately disappointed, because it was impossible to keep anything on his face for very long. Thanks, though. I'd completely forgotten about Hugo until today, 43 years later. If he haunts my dreams, I'll let you know.

He was not meant for girls, but boys, and he was meant to experiment with horror make-up, as the 70's drive-in horror schlock was "in". He didn't have a lower half because he was meant as a hand puppet that you could customize. The name "Man of a Thousand Faces" is a Tribute to Lon Chaney, a famous silent movie actor who revolutionized movie make-up techniques.

I remember when I was 6 years old, I saw a lady at Target with a baby doll in the shopping cart where you put babies, and I said "Look Mom! a doll!" The lady scowled at me and we left. I was beginning to feel uneasy, as if she thought that was her child.

Oh you guys want the creepiest dolls. Then work in a Target or Walmart and be cleaning the store after hours when you are the only one in the toy section and two isles away and all the dolls with computer chips just start going off one after another. And again I repeat you are the only one there. There are no other coworkers anywhere near you. I literally stood at the end of the isle far away from them and watched them all just go off one night. Super creepy. Nobody Else was around and they just started moving and making noises. Just a tid bit these dolls only have two modes motion mode (which is the demo mode) or the actual mode and even in actual mode they do not go off on their own. Someone has to walk in front of the sensor that make them set off.

Just for the sake of correct information- the type of dolls Emily showed, “reborns” are not produced. They are individually painted by artist, so they are not factory replicas. They are all unique. Also, they are not all made for mourning mothers. They’re generally made as a art collectable and they happen to also be used to mourn. This is due to them weighing similar to how real babies do. So when a woman/maternal man holds one they get that same feeling of holding a baby. This is where the anxiety calming aspect comes in. When a woman (or maternal man) holds a baby a lot of different hormones get released in her body. These calming/protective hormones happen with reborns as well. Lastly, the baby depicted in the video is an “alternative baby”. I know Emily mentioned it but I feel that she got spoken over while explaining. Alternative means that the baby was made to be “scary” or “monster-like”. This is more like a subset of the reborn genre. But they are very popular with some people. Not everyone appreciates them though which is understandable. They’re for a specific type of person.
That’s all I have to say about it, thanks for reading if you made it this far. By the way, I’m not commenting to hate on Emily or GMM in any way. I just want to make sure the correct information is being distributed about a very sheltered community (for the most part).

Oh my, what a great episode! I used to have one of them creepy dolls myself when I was a kid (and trust me, they could make horribly looking dolls here in the Eastern Europe back in the 1980s - or were the imported from the Soviet Union perhaps?). I kept having nightmares starring that ugly little thing with piercing eyes! Luckily, the doll is long gone. I have to admit, however, that the whispering doll you presented was pretty disturbing as well. Cheers from Poland!

My grandma's attic was filled with toys from my mom and my aunt from when they were young. There were so many creepy dolls, eyes falling off, lifeless stares and so much more.
but by far the creepiest I've seen was a big doll, she was around the size of Links dog, Jade, scruffy blonde hair, creepy eyes. the head was a very different shade than the rest of the body and it also had a string where you can pull on for her to talk.
She'd say some stuff that I can't really remember, *but* over the years the voice of the doll got more and more corrupted and distorted, it sounded so creepy and inaudible.
I swear, at some point it sounded like she mumbled "Ich sehe dich", which means "I see you" in german. That was the last time I pulled the string before we threw it out.
It's been 3 years since we threw all those dolls away and over a year since we moved into this exact same house. My current room is the same one where the doll used to sit and sometimes I creep myself out at night, thinking of the doll and hearing sounds.
