    I would love to have this in my garden, but I don't think they are sold here in New Zealand .... I will have to check that out on the internet. We do have the normal peonies, & I planted one in 2011, & was so happy to see that it had its very first bud, & telling myself to be careful as I weeded around it. Well, we have a persistent weed that has a leaf shape very similar to the peony, & as I was still thinking happy thoughts about my very first peony being in bud, I pulled it out ....... yes, I did!!! And not only did I pull it out, but it snapped off at the base as I did so ...... I actually sat holding it, & crying. Since then, I haven't planted another one, but I think I will do so. You have inspired me ..... & hopefully I won't pull this one out.

    This is so great. I would love to see more in depth videos like this on individual plants! For example, coleus! I'm so confused about when and where to "pinch back." There's some videos out there on the subject, but they aren't super clear and I typically can't see what the person is doing with their hands. I've read some articles too, but they don't have detailed pictures.

    • @Jack-oc2xq
      @Jack-oc2xq Před 6 lety

      Cute_but_dumb its been a while since you commented this but incase you didnt find out, pinching back is when you cut back a stem of a plant to a leaf node, where the leaf grows out from the stem, the point of this is to make plants busier, because the stem continues to grow from the little bud in between the leaf and the stem

    I live in a zone 10a, bought a bulb of peonies 2 years ago. I planted it in a huge pot and didn't move it from a sunny spot. Each year it gives a big bush of leaves and no buds, and later - mid-summer - obviously dries out. This year I moved it into the shadow with late evening sun only, though still no buds, only whole bunch of beautiful leaves. Is there a way to make it bloom?

Which most of thoes don't really have a selection of plants...Well maybe Lowe's has a bit of selection. Anyways we are down to 3 nurseries which is a huge bumer😢 1 is a small very small nursery the other focuses on succulents which i like also and the last one is more into saleing trees, shrubs, bougainvillea, and roses, they do have 2 tables of the 4in pots of annuals which is petunia, gazanias, and foxtail ferns but none of them carry peony. The first second I saw this one I said I will have one they are beautiful and peony are my favorite shrub plant aaaaand tree.👍😊🖒

    I'm curious about the ants as well. I recently read that if you want to bring the blooms indoors for display you should cut the stems when the buds are beginning to show color and are soft as marshmallows. You can then shake off any ants, place the stems in water and you should have blooms in a day or two. I haven't tried it yet and would appreciate your opinion.

    • @allenlebo
      @allenlebo Před 2 lety

      Tree peonies don’t have ants. Regular peonies are easy to clean of ants. Dip each one, flower head down, in a pail of slightly soapy water and shake of water. Check under the leaves at the base of the flower in case any ants are hiding there.

    Asked earlier-non tree peonies- have long established large plants- about 20-30" across in circle that grow into double wire ring supports & the annual problem is flower stalks aren't strong enough to support their double flowers! What will create stronger stems so that cutting for inside becomes the only option? I'd prefer having them outside longer but rainy Spring in PA 2018 made that impossible. Help! I got some sprinkle container of fertilizer, I think 12-4-8 but know little about it & think it likely needs more acid feeding but is that right? We're in the woods except for peony beds-inset with lawn all around, AM sun & dappled in afternoon. Thanks- enjoy your videos a lot.
