My mind went towards DR.BMK's recital and the Keerthanam in Amritavarshini ragam,.'Aanandaamrutakarshini amrutavarshini.'.that I carry in mind with the same flavour of appreciation for the past three decades. I would like to scribble about that A.I.R program where the magic happened when he sang 'Aanandaamrutakarshini amrutavarshini.'.
Amr̥tavarṣiṇi is created in the early nineteenth century by Muthuswami Dikshitar. It is an audava ragam (meaning pentatonic scale..5 notes only) and a janya ragam (derived scale), fairly popular in Carnatic music. There is a belief that Amr̥tavarṣiṇi causes rain, and that the Carnatic composer Muthuswami Dikshitar brought rain at Ettayapuram, Tamil Nadu, by singing his composition, Aanandaamrutakarshini amrutavarshini.
I have seen Dr.BMK bringing a sudden heavy rain in a sunny evening around 4.30 by singing -"Anandaa
mrutakarshini . . amrutavarshnee... haraadi poojute shive bavaani" in Amrithavarshini at a College in Chennai in 1990 -91 , when A .I.R Chennai conducted a recital by him in the open auditorium in the college ground in evening hours. Since the stage was covered with a roof, he continued the recital and the whole audience though drenched in the rain never moved away! I was standing n the side of the stage with few of my Faculty colleagues then. We could connect the incident with the raga only when the official from A.I.R said through the audio-system on conclusion of the particular song. By then the rain was over.the whole audience were so exhilarated as everyone have experienced such an incident for the first time in their life, proving the old saying about the ragam happening in front of them!!!

Amritavarshini is a divine raga said to usher in showers of rain when sung. The moods associated with it are joy, exuberance, appeal, and passionate exultation. The swara combinations in this raga conjure up a grand vision in the mind’s eye. This vision, when complemented with an interesting anecdote of rains pouring down in answer to Muthuswamy Dikshitar's prayer in this raga, gives this raga an almost ethereal quality.
The notes in this raga include Sadja, Antara Gandhara, Prati Madhyama, Pancama, and Kakali Nishada. It is a symmetrical scale, with several crests and valleys. The hyperbolic transition from the Pancama to the Nishada is spellbinding, as is the attraction of Prati Madhyama when sounded in conjunction with the Nishada. The undulating expanses in this raga are an interesting terrain for the adventurous musician who seeks to jump from note to note and revel in thrills.
The classical piece “Anandamrita” of Dikshitar may be thought of as a guide to this raga, and as soon as this song was fervently rendered by the composer as a sincere prayer to the goddess, “varshaya varshaya varshaya”, rains are said to have poured down in Ettayapuram. Ragas are certainly powerful and their vibrations transcend the comprehension of the human mind, pervading the cosmos. Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavatar's”Sudhamayi” with its attractive chittaswara passage is a treat in Amritavarshini. One fondly remembers G.N.Balasubramaniam's bright rendition of this piece.

It is as if dikshitar himself is singing. From where does Balamuralikrishna garu gets this unique sense ?! Every krithi has his own mark. Marvellous!
