It's called S. repens because it's a way of shortening scientific names in the scholarly community: capitalize the first letter of the genus, period, then lowercase species. Sorry if I'm being overly literal and you knew that.
@@CorvusOscen Thank you for doing these videos. I'm new with aquatic plants, however I'm fantastic with above water plants. Lol What is the name of that pine tree looking plant? I want to do a whole forest scape. Thank you again!!!
Beautiful set up. S repens has been my favorite foreground plant since I started and now I’m 10+ tanks in. I want them all to be planted and out of every you tuber, I feel your style of aquascape is my favorite.
Whoa, wicked intro! Thanks for a visually beautiful and informative video! I'm not even planning on getting S. repens, like ever, but I still sat glued to the screen watching this.
Hey, Happy First Father's Day man! Great vid! This stuff did not do well for me in Ecocomplete with three Fluvial 3.0s over a 75gallon tank. It just sort of died off over the course of a year. I'm not enjoying the Ecocomplete so I'm slowly adding fluvial stratum to it. I've changed the tank to a more low light tank so I probably won't revisit this plant in this tank. Maybe in my darted 30. Cheers, Chris
Isnt there anything you can do about the algae instead of ripping it all out? it looked amazing before aside from the algae. also what is the intro song? id like to hear the whole thing.
I’ve really been struggling to get my S repens to grow. I did a dry start and they grew fast and looked good even after filling for awhile . Then after a few weeks they started to melt and got overwhelmed with diatoms. Now after 2 months I’ve lost 1/3 of them completely and the remainder have some new growth that’s not covered in diatoms but the older leaves are. They’re growing very slowly with shriveled leaves even though I’ve got good ferts ,light, co2 and ADA Amazonia. My Mc has had some patches of melt and most of the plants have lots of thread algae. Only the rotala hra looks reasonable. Should I just wait ? And maybe it will recover.
Love my S. Repens, it's one of the easiest foreground plants. I wouldn't try it in organic soil though, it's tiny roots like a looser substrate. It grew better for me in medium gravel and mulm and dosing liquid fertilizers. It's easy to propagate by ripping a bit off and replanting it. Totally agree it's kinda like a stem plant in that regard.
So it's an easy carpetting plant thats also stem plant? Low tech suitable?? Btw I noticed how you use curved tweezer. Diff than my style. Always have issue of plant not sit tightly in soil once i release the tweezer
I glued some to à Bonsai tree, so far so good after 10 days, but today I notice one piece located on the top of the tree, has lost its leaves but the stem is green and the rest do fine....
I have ordered staurogyne repens and staurogyne porto velho... Can you give some info on porto velho too??? Thank you for the staauurogyynneee repns info😊😊😊
Is this Fluval stratum? I’m planning on redoing my planted tanks this summer. I’ve got a lot of plants in one tank, and I want to use them in a few rescapes. I liked how it didn’t make a huge mess like the dirt in my tank does. And how many bags per gallon, approximately would you recommend?
"Why does everyone call it S. repens?" That's the standardized shorthand when you're referencing something by its genus-species name. It gets wordy and clunky having to say/write "Staurogyne repens" over and over again. Exact same reason why dinosaur people call Tyrannosaurus rex a T. rex.
Happy Father's Day, Joel. Know you had a great day with adorable lil Olivia. Thanks for taking time to put out another chill-axin' plant spot light. You cracked me up at the end of the video...guess that's why they call it S. repens 😂 Sounds like it will make a great addition to a hanging water container in an open top tank...who knew. Gonna add it to my list. 👍💕👍

What is the plant that looks like a pine tree? Long needles

What are those plants just behind the S. Repens & Crypts ? Those long stems with very thin leafs ...
I find you get the best growth from the freshly cut and re planted growing tips. The older cut stems grow much slower. Don't ask me why.
Why?
Don't those dust in the substrate make ammonia spike or bring algae issue to the tank?

how many stems you bring in a pot?
Do you need co2 for this plant or will it do ok with ferts and a good light (i.e. fluval 3.0)?

Just call it S Repens because I'm not going crazy in the coconut. 😛
It is called S. repens because the scientific name of every organism can be shortened by using the first letter of the genus and full species name.
I think his comment is because in the aquascaping world specifically, full names are always used.
