Great review of the Dehancer plugin! I'm particularly curious about the halation effect compared to FilmConvert's. Speaking of impulse purchases, your Vooteq Model N review totally pushed me over the edge - Merry Christmas!

Haha. Thanks so much! The halation is fantastic. The entire plugin is worth it if you enjoy that retro feel. I sure do!
Oh yes! The Model N! It rocks! Haha.
      Merry Christmas!

You did not offend the video editor third of me. Great review. I remember hearing about a plug-in that has a great film grain emulation that is not just an overlay but couldn't remember which one it was. I was telling the Director I've been working with about it at a meeting last week. I just messaged him about Dehancer. At that price I would expect him to pick it up. He does plenty of editing. Myself, I would probably be getting it down the road, after a lot of stuff transpires for me and I am retired, and doing film stuff full time. I also love that you shot this on the BMPCC4K. Yeah...the 1950's audio was spot on right away for me. Loved that segment.

      Hey thanks so much!
Indeed. I’m actually very impressed with Dehancer. It really is something else. And much cheaper than other algorithmically generated film emulation plugins. Be sure to use THETPS code to get 10% off because saving anything is very worth it at this price.
Yep! All shot on the BMPCC4K! Woo hoo!
And I’m so glad you liked the newscaster bit! The audio sells it!
      Thanks again!

Check out ravengrade or mononodes as an alternative, also built in resolve studio tools can do a lot of the work (it won’t be a 1:1 film emulation, but it’ll still look nice) The biggest distinction though to me is the lens you use and how you expose and light. if you adapt a vintage Olympus zuiko or canon fd, or old 16mm bolex lens or something like that, it does a lot of the heavy lifting, then it’s up to whatever post processing effects you want to add like grain, glow, etc. then adjust the contrast/sat to taste. Dehancer looks nice, but some don’t really have a reason to drop that much on it, and can get better results from being a lil more crafty - but it does seem to make the process a whole lot less of a pain in the ass

Hey. You’re absolutely right. Those are great alternative ways of getting that film look. And honestly, Davinci Studio comes with many ways of getting close built in. But if you want it to happen quickly and more accurately, a dedicated film emulation plugin is your friend.
      Thanks for the suggestions!

This is perfect for creating alibi footage to show I was doing something else and not at the ravine on that fateful night in 1978… thanks!

I'm not wealthy, just irresponsible. That sums me up too. I have a high tolerance to debt it seems. Part of having gear aquisition syndrome.

can you make a video on how to treat a room to not get reverb at lowest coast? or how to soundproof the room cuz i have an echo in my room

    • @TheRecordist
      @TheRecordist  Před 9 měsíci +2

I definitely intend to make a video about that in the future. The easiest and cheapest way is to have a lot of stuff in your room and lots of absorbent materials. Couches and curtains and uneven books and all kinds of stuff.
Moving blankets hanging 6 inches from the walls help too.
But the best way is making panels with rock wool. There are many videos about how to do that on CZcams. Cheers!
