I really enjoy these videos, I started playing when I was around 14 with my brother and his friends in the garage and i'm almost 50 now. I had no choice but to learn to play so I drilled after school and weekends on the push shot and toe shot just so my brother and his buddies would let me play and we still get together and play some today, anyway i'm just rambling, just wanted to say keep it up. Nice! The Pull Shot was my favorite back in the day. My shooting motion was short, just enough of a wrist twist to get behind the ball and hit it solid.
This is great advice bro. I've been working on my pull and I do it the exact same way and you're right its really all about lateral speed and quick contact being sure to get behind the ball and square it. Its possible spray longs are slightly faster to the hole, but id prefer to go deeper to the long hole with fast lateral speed. Repetition is the key though... practicing it daily. Great video.
You’re very good and good tutorial as well , and I agree with the million ways to shoot a pull shot as well. Mine was 1/4 in on each side of the about the lifeline of my palm and I never closed gripped the rod I had great success but like you said practice and practice and the speed will come .i enjoyed your tutorial very much in my 60’s now and you brought back a lot of good memories thank you ! I'm not a pull shooter, but it's something I'd like to work on so I can at least understand it better as a defender. I've seen a lot of conflicting advice about when to start the back swing on a pullshot. I've also been told to to whip the ball into the goal in one motion rather than have a "2-stroke" motion.
Can you talk about what those mean and the trade-offs between those approaches? (I think you touched on this a bit in discussing the many different correct ways to do a pullshot)
I have heard about the whip idea as well. But i think people need the
basics before moving into alternate options. It is just a different way
to shoot that i think it more complicated.

@@johnadams2063He probably didn't. Newer tables replaced the white strip with a slightly thinner transparent strip.

great video! I agree reps are super important. What are your tips for picking shots, particularly how to read or pick middles vs a standard defense? I feel like that is my lowest % shot.... that 2 hole tuck, big dot middle and 3/4
When it comes to reading, you really have to play a ton! It isnt something that can be taught. You have to see the hole and then hit it.
I've been playing for 5 years and still haven't figured it out lol. I have visual "markers" in the shooting area where I can tell if a straight or long is open or will be open based on what they are doing. But I haven't figured out the right cues or markers that would tell me with confidence that the hole is there or will be there unless it's a huge obvious hole. What are things you are looking for when you are reading a defense? How do you score on a fast shuffle with a pull?
It comes down to the defense. If they are a shake or race d, i always suggest sitting on the ball as long as possible and then hitting the hole. For a middle, you have to see the middle and then wait for it to open back up again.
Hey Chase... I played last night in our local weekly which I hadn't played in a while. I was a bit nervous but more importantly I couldn't relax enough to execute a " smooth takeoff ". I was staring at easy middles many times but I had a hard time relaxing for 3 matches.
It is awesome that you got out for an event! Nerves are a tough thing. The more you play the better those get. BUT i would suggest making it a point to breath. Think about your breathing and it should help settle them down.
Do you think you could do a more in depth tutorial on the long pull . I'd like to see more on reading defenses and proper ball position.
Also the transition from five man to three man
Don't focus on reading defenses.For example,the goalie may be baiting you,causing you to shoot a particular hole that you wouldn't otherwise shoot.Therefore,unless shooting one particular hole is working for you,mix up what you shoot at ans when.Keep the goalie guessing.Cheers.

One question: When I watch your long series at around 15:20 I see the balls going in an obtuse angle, so maybe 80, instead of 90 degrees. Does that mean you can't go around an "outside" defender on the 2-bar with a pull-shot at all or is it possible to get a precisely squared long? Maybe it's not necessary because the defender can't afford to position their 2-bar guy that far.(?)
Felix Tritschler this part of the video is more about how to work on the drill than hitting it perfect. With a box like this it is working on speed. Personally I like my shot to cut back a tiny bit than be a perfect 90. The reason for that is to go around deadbar as well as hitting a tuck 2 hole. But you need to be able to cut the ball back, hit it square and spray the ball. You need to be able to do all 3 to have a great shot

I first began playing on a Rene Pierre, in 1976, which had cork balls. The balls were soft and the table was soft. It had a much different feel than the more popular Dynamo & Tornado type tables, we called them German tables I think.
Anyway, I'd always wondered how cork balls would work on a Tornado. You don't have any in your huge practice box, so I doubt they're useful.

I've briefly played on a Tornado using a cork ball and it's just a different feel really. However, as you noted, the hard figure and hard surface of a Tornado means that pinning the ball multiple times wears down the ball until it no longer rolls straight and true. The ball for the Bonzini (the table the Rene Pierre was modeled after) has also changed, it uses a yellow polyurethane ball now which is harder than cork but quite a bit softer than a Tornado, and quite a bit slicker. Bottom line, it doesn't make a ton of sense to practice with a cork ball on a Tornado as it prepares you for a situation that would never happen, having a lightweight ball that doesn't roll straight. Tornado balls become slick and lose their grip very quickly but they pretty much always retain a good roll.
Thank you for the fantastic video. I noticed at one point you mentioned practicing around 2000 shots per week. Could you share how many weeks you dedicated to this intense practice to master the pull shot? Additionally, I'm curious about the total number of years you've been practicing and if you've won any titles.
Yea. I did this for almost 3 months. It drastically changed my shot for the better! I have been playing tournaments for 20 years. And have a fair amount of titles. Too many to list. But some of my best stuff:

I just bought a leonhart and try to learn to play as itsf rules. Do you think i have to learn the pull shot or i Can shoot just with the ball on the middle ?

We use the same rules as ITSF. So everything should be the same.
I see these guys using their wrist to fist method , but back in the mid to late 70s when I played that would be considered spinning , is this new? Because I was taught that spinning a man was illegal. Unless I’m not seeing the videos correctly.
Pull shot usually two step tap and over, but looks one motion.

Peter Good I think so, but it depends on what table you are using. But yes you want to grip down on the rod when you shoot so you need your thumb
Any suggestions for a player on which tournaments to get into? I am 45 and have never played in a tournament but feel like I could compete with players I have seen online. Been playing for about 17 years. I live in Georgia so it isn't exactly a foosball haven here. Seems like the game is more popular up north.
Actually the game pretty popular all over! Florida has a ton of players! Honestly if you are looking to play some tournaments. Just get out and go! Most people are very nice and will teach you a ton! Find "local" events or find someone near you to play against. The Foosball board is a great place to find events and ifptour.com. Is the main site for all upcoming events

I line up the ball in the middle, I can go either side to bank it or just go straight, it is very hard to stop. That is office play, so no idea if it is legal, lol.

Hi, I'm from Oklahoma and I started playing when I was 11 and I'm 56 now. I've been off for the past 20 years, but have had the honor of playing some of the best. Some foosers found me on facebook and talked me into playing some last week. I had a lot of fun. I believe always have believed that the best way to start is just get in some tournaments and see where you are, but just keep playing and practicing. also get a lot of game play and not all practice. good luck.

I would suggest searching for a Tornado Table that is used. Be patient.
How effect is the pull shot? I have been trying for month but im getting 10% strike rate. im playing on a craftsman. Also, are you pro player?
Peter Good Thanks for your comment. Yes I am a pro on tour. And I think the pull shot is 1 of 2 shots (the snake shot being the other) that can be used at the highest level and win. The problem is unfortunately your table. You need to get a pro style table to get good at it.
@@ChasePennell I'd like to add that on Fireball Table or if you are Federico on Tornado, Euro Front Pin is a top 3 Pro shot.. once mastered its even deadlier than a rollover. Hands down. Cheers!
All the power you need,or want,comes from the speed of your shot.Focus less on power,more on speed and accuracy.Do this and you'll be fine.
That is actually not correct. The distance from the 3 rod to the goal is longer than the distance laterally. So power from the shot is actually more important

The Tutorial is Great, But Here i disagree. No matter How fast your shot is, if your lateral Speed is Too slow, the other guy races you.

It is a known fact that lateral speed is more important, than power. You need to look at the distance between the rods. You power doesn't matter if the defender is already at position thanks to your slow lateral.
What's the deal with a 3 goalie vs 1 goalie table?
Need to integrate maybe slow-motion cam to the video and it can be better understood by your audiences. Your pull is hella fast for sure.

How is your table so even, I know this video is around four years old, but I'm praying you get my question, how do you make your table so even, how do I know when my tables even, so that I know that the game is fair, and I'm not even sure if u even still do this channel but I am subscribing to it because I now own a foosball table in my bear cave, bear cave meaning man cave, owned by Chicago Bear fan. but I keep getting beat by my neighbor and he is not that good I know I'm better, I just don't think my table is even, so if by some chance you do get my question please explain to me how to level my table out
I used to live in Chicago and there is also a GREAT FB Foosball group you should get into. Leveling a table can be somewhat an art form. BUT a couple of tricks i have found are get a ball bearing and by setting it on the table you will know where to raise or lower the feet. Sometimes the balls are not perfectly round and that can cause a table to seem not level. I hope that helps.

Because the goalie area on a Tornado doesn't have ramps so the wingmen make it possible to retrieve the ball when it's in the corner, it's a pretty straightforward reason which makes complete sense.
