That open discussion you had about recommending it or not was thoughtful. Good stuff.
Thanks for another solid review. I too, love all things Wild Turkey. Met Jimmy on two occasions and his warmth and graciousness sealed the deal for me. I will forever be a fan. I've been fortunate to land each release. My favorite, hands down, is Decades. Cheers!
Beautiful bottle. Needs to find its way to Canada.
Jason ,
You are Honest and that’s why I always see what you think before I go buy some bottles. Wild Turkey is my Favorite . Thanks for sharing. Be well and keep your glass full 🥃… blessings from Gettysburg Pa…
Thanks for another great review, Jason! Crazy how a couple of years ago these Master's Keeps used to sit on the shelf for months and now you can't find them at all. Really appreciate your comments about all the good juice you can pick up every day which is just as good or better than the "unicorns". Experience vs FOMO I guess.
Really looking forward to this review before searching for this bottle. I think I'll wait for the next release. Cheers 🥃
Another honest and very helpful review
Thank you, Jason. Excellent work.
Love the Gabagool shirt 😂 I want to hear your take on the new Bardstown Ferrand given how much you loved the Armagnac cask collab
Love Russell’s reserve! Have to try this one! Just ordered a bottle after watching this.
Huge fan of anything WT/Russell. Great review J 👍
Thanks Jason.
Good review Jason
My mate just bought the me for my wedding tomorrow big turkey fan can’t wait to sip this with a cigar
Interesting review. Sounds like a super solid bottle. But man, at that price I'm not sure I'm going out of my way to track one down. If I walk in to a store and it's just sitting there, as a Turkey fan, I'd probably grab it. But like you say, so many damn good Russell's picks out there at like a third of the price, maybe a little more. Always glad to see your take on things cheers man.
Great review 🥃🦃
Love your honest unbiased reviews. Thank you! Any KO Batch 11 review coming?
Great review!
It's the kinda whisky you can buy as a special occasion gift for that friend who is not so much into whisky. It tastes good, looks good and the price tag will let him know what's up!
Great show
Great review! I went in thinking it would taste like Elijah craig toasted and missed the s’more flavors. Good stuff but very different than I expected.
Thanks J. I’m a big Turkey-head like yourself. Unfortunately, when this bottle makes it across the border to us in 🇨🇦, it’s about $260 USD. I just have to pass at that price point. Sounds amazing tho!
That shirt is amazing
Thanks Jason! Time to shift focus:)
Great video
sounds perfect.....
I can only get the Rare Breed in the UK which is a great bourbon. If I could buy this or the Russell barrel picks I would, but there are great whiskies that I can buy so I have nothing to moan about. Cheers Jason!
I like how you don't loose your mind over limited stuff. It still has to stack up against other stuff, especially cheaper stuff for you to give it a great recommendation.
Wow this looks fantastic how can I can my hands on a bottle? It’s probably never gonna make it to The Ontario Canada LCBO?
That hat is Boss!!
Found a bottle in Nashville for $140.00 looking forward to it. Feel like I got a good deal.
Get some Viscaya rum. A butterscotch bomb. And smooth as silk.
Thanks for saving me some money Jason. That's equal to 3 RR store picks. I'm starting to fear that WT is entering into the tater fray.
I’m sure it’s great but for me, can’t justify $175 for a whiskey. I’ve never found the taste difference between a $75.00 and a $200 bottle worth the money. But that’s me 😎
WANT...!
Hey Jason are those glencarin glasses? If not name an were to buy?
Are you like me and bourbons are starting to get a bit boring. They are all the same 3 (or 4) ingredients in different amounts. Longer maturation makes them more interesting but the distilleries have a huge amount of storage time invested in say a 10 year and the 54 gallons that they started with may only end up 20 gallons or less thus driving the price per 750ml up to unaffordable. (for me any way) Like this one, a blend and toasted to boot makes it different but not necessarily something to blow your hat off. I have taken a liking to wine finished especially port which for me, gives it that dark fruit flavor you get in the 10+ year old stock. As always, thanks for the review.
I always enjoy your reviews! I enjoy Wild Turkey products but my budget is a bit limited. For $175 I'd want at least 3 if not 4 bottles of bourbon
Wow! I'm torn for this one. I didn't have a problem paying 175 for the 17yr BIB and it still one top bourbons of all times but not sure about spending that amount for this one, especially after your honest review which I respect so much. I have to sleep on it and see what the stars tell me when I see it around here😂. Great review! Cheers Jason!🤙
17 BIB is one of the best bourbons I've ever had. If I could find another I'd buy it fo sho
@@shredward666 I bought one on a Saturday and went back Sunday morning for another one. 😁
I'm going ham for the turkey if I find it. Cornerstone rye is looking lonely on the shelf.
Hey where did you get that glass?
I'm viewing this at 7:40 a.m. Is it too early to go pour a couple of fingers of WT 101? It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?
Nice special effects at 7:57 with the box opening. How’d you pull that off? Lol
You know what I appreciate about your reviews? You rarely seem to encourage anyone to pay more than retail.
Fuck the secondary market...
Having a sample pour right now, bottle cracked last night.
Man I'm so underwhelmed.
Really want to like this but it's a bit of a bust.
Great review, Jason! I’d buy this at retail if I can find it at that price (doubtful). Having said that I did spot a MK Cornerstone at retail recently. Not the same thing, I know, but would you recommend that MK at retail for now? Cheers brother 😊🥃
So true! They used to collect dust.
Great review but your just didn't have the fire for this one. I've seen you more excited about 50$ bottles lol. Sometimes it's what you don't say that says it all. Great review.
Rare Breed is great at $45. Anything above $100 is tater territory.
When will this be released to Australia 🌏🦘
I think if they proofed it a tad higher
Sorry, I didn't watch your video to the end before my last comment. On another related subject, I was lucky enough to get a recent bottle of the Old Forester Birthday Bourbon from my state's Lottery of limited release Bourbons at the retail price of $125. I have to say, that other than the bragging rights and the neat bottle, I would have better appreciated 2 bottles of the 1920, 115 proof, better. At $60 a bottle, I think the 1920 or even the cheaper 1870 is a better bargain. I am sure that I would say the same thing if I ever get a chance to taste the iconic Pappy in any formulation--the price is not worth any distinctive flavor. We have a bar here in Richmond, VA that occasionally gets a bottle of Pappy and serves shots (while it lasts) for $50 a piece. I am not in that crowd of well-off people, so I could never justify that expense for one shot. Kind of reminds me of a TV show about the most expensive foods in the world--A $1,000 pizza with caviar and gold flakes--only for the foolishly rich. That works out to $167 a slice, plus a 15% tip of $150, plus drinks--probably Dom Perignon. Maybe for Elon Musk, or Bill Gates, or Mark Zuckerberg, but not me.
Been on a whiskey journey for a while. Started with Scotch and moved to bourbon/rye back in 2007 for the quality/ accessibility/affordability. One thing that is for sure is bourbon/rye has lost its way on the second 2 while staying flat on the quality.
Oh it's here, another Whiskey I can't get in Ohio... Love your channel and your reviews...just don't love that I can't get anything I want in Ohio...
@@TheMashandDrum That begs the question how you know when it drops in each state? Curious in CT
@@jasonreynolds2254 just social media groups will post. I know Florida got some last week.
Was kinda hoping you'd compare it to this year's Michter's toasted bourbon, Woodford Double Oaked, and 1910. The WT fanboy in me leapt out when I stumbled upon this bottle, now I'm gonna try holding off on opening it until either Thanksgiving or my birthday. Sounds like the toasted finish didn't impact the bourbon as strongly, and I'm wondering if the combined age is making the whiskey stand up more strongly to the toasted influence.
@@TheMashandDrum Don't dangle hopes and dreams in front of me without following through haha
When you left the other glass out for a couple days did you cover it or just let it breathe?
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎😎😎😎
The Finish last longer than I do, My wife agrees 😝 I’m digging it overall!
😁 I reviewed this today too.
I was a little disappointed. It's solid, but I expected more.
Yeah that's pretty much where I'm at. However I can't figure out what that MORE needs to be. Lol
I think I enjoyed the 17yr BiB quite a bit more. I can't quite put my finger on the problem either.
My biggest problem, I think, is that it doesn't taste or smell special.. it's just Turkey.. too much in the profile maybe.
@@bourbonsanta I actually liked the fact that the toasted profile didn't overpower it. Love the flavors but there wasn't a wow factor like the 17 that made it seem worthy of a master's keep. Maybe it's because we are coming off the 17. Lol
WT Fan here. This will be a buy when I find it. As to what is missing, sounds like the proof, that little punch?
Could be. But overall its a fine dram. I think How good last years was could be holding me back a bit.
@@TheMashandDrum have you done a blind of all of the masters keep expressions? Or better yet, I feel the heart of WT is the 101, and you might find that missing element while comparing the two.
I was disappointed not to find the Russell’s 13 around here after considerable searching. I suspect this will be just as bad. I’ll just have to be content with my RR picks.
175 is crazy….. I guess they are trying to get in the bardstown game of saying hey look at me I’m fancy so I’ll over charge you haha. Good review Jason im sure it’s good just way over priced.
Have you ever tried a Michter’s 25 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon..? Just wondering.
Any tips on how to find bourbons like these around Cbus
This one hasnt dropped yet in CBUS. Its coming soon. I would ask your stores when they think its coming and get there early.
I ended up passing on this one .. had a chance to buy but the $215 out the door Ohio price was too much for what it is. I got 3 bottles of RR13 for $70/$70/$80 (distillery) + tax . Much better value and agree w RRsp’s and possibly even 21 Rare Breed being better .
What does toasted mean?
Damn...not one thumbs down...Darn tough to see that nowadays with all that Hatorde juice around. Jason should be proud. Nothing but love and butter pecan around here.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from his reviews. He likes something, but will “never” pay secondary for it. I throughly enjoy this years release. Which is the great thing about bourbon, everyone’s tastes are different
Oh there are bottles I would pay secondary for. Sometimes I have to but doesn't mean everyone should.
Which bottles? I’ve watched almost all of your videos and have never seen one. I paid $300 for this years release. And would gladly pay that again
@@xmikewallace17 I can't remember which ones in particular. I don't do it often. It really depends on the bottle and if I know I'll never see it or if stores I talk too aren't getting it. I'm fine to pay it sometimes to let viewers know if it's worth it.whooe I found this master's keep enjoyable coming off last year's 17 and the 13 year it was missing something for me. It's different being a toasted bourbon but could be hit or miss for alot of folks. Glad you like it.
I’m a big fan of toasted bourbons or double oaked. This is my first masters keep so don’t have much to compare it to.
Mind you, I live in Va. It’s so bad here that Woodford double oaked, OF 1910/1920 are pretty much allocated.
Like with anything it’s worth whatever you’re willing to pay for it.
That’s 7+ bottles of WT101, and Winter is Coming…
If you look at the "tulip" craze in Holland in the 1600's ... that's what's going on with bourbon presently in the United States. Frenzied rip-off. But over time it will subside and hopefully sanity in the market will be restored. In the interim, I'll be down to earth, calmly sipping unperturbed, my ... Wild Turkey 101. Laughing at all the whiskey noobs. W.T.101 best value for bourbon money on the planet ... bar none. Can't beat tha Turk!
We are going to pass on this one, we love Turkey but we have several single barrels of RR and WTKS with a similar expression at a fraction of the price.
Why does everyone keep saying its the 6th release when it's the 7th?
What's in the bottle? Well, coming out of the bottle by my reckoning is approximately $1.50 per sip. I said sip, not gulp!
Isn't that the 7th release not 6
Sounds like it is good....which is good....but there is no Wow too it, and you kinda need that for $175
Also what does Gabagool on your shirt mean. I guess I am out of the know.
Gabagool is a funny way Italians call a cured meat called Capicolla. It's just a fun way to say it.
Please people $175 is to much money for any bourbon. Give me some 120 proof Knob Creek for $57 and save the cash.
Shame on WT for overpricing this.
If you had to buy one or the other:
Masters Keep or Russell’s 13
@@TheMashandDrum saweet… do you know about papa Joe’s in Richmond Indiana? If not hit me up
Lol every bottle this year has been bad. I go by the MTBB, whiskey tube hates it. I get the 4 🌹 SMBLE, it’s an off year . GTS is cancelled this year. Every single rare release this year sucks it seems besides RR13 and the JDBPR
Jealous. I want this bottle but no chance at a secondary price
Too rich for my blood.
I love Wild Turkey products because they are such a great value, but this doesn't seem like much of a value to me.
If it was around $100 (+/- $20), I would probably go for it. But that is always my uppermost limit that I will spend on any bottle of whiskey, and those purchases are very few and far between.
Ditch the fancy box, I can’t drink it anyway. And drop the price to $125. And I still probably won’t buy it. I can get 3 bottles of Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel @ 110 proof for the same price. 🔥
Nice review Jason, unfortunately another hard to find, overpriced bourbon. I have to believe at some point all this will change.
If I see it, think I will pass. Would have to be stellar for $175. Too many excellent $50 - $100 options.
I think you went too softly on this because of your love for Wild Turkey. If you remove the label and just say it’s a non age stated, 101 proof, toasted barrel finished bourbon priced at $175 you’d laugh at it. At most this is a $100 bottle and even that seems expensive for what you’re getting, but they can get the money for it so I don’t blame them for doing it. I’m not saying it isn’t good whiskey, sounds like it is and I’d love to try it before I bought it too, but that isn’t gonna happen lol 😂
I don't feel I went easy. It really is a polarizing bourbon because I cant compare this to other toasted bourbons I've had. Removing the label, saying non-age stated and 101 proof I would agree. But It doesn't fit the regular toasted bourbon mold flavor wise. Its a really good bourbon and up there with some of the best toasted products Ive had...but compared to other Turkey releases..the price is too high based on the usual value we get from Turkey. It's missing something as I mentioned.
@@TheMashandDrum agreed man, price is definitely too high and the value from Turkey is usually very good. This honestly just felt like a money grab bottle, good whiskey yes, but double the price it should have been considering the Russell’s 13 year which was cask strength retailed at $75. It has been gradual, but the quality of some of the products from Turkey like 101 has started to decline in favor of more profitable bottles like Longbranch.
I was unable to get a bottle of this, this year.
My friend did and we tried it. The bottle was opened about a month before I was able to get with him.
This was one of the worst allocated bottles I have ever had. Never been so disappointed ever. Sorry to say. I didn’t care for it. I see no way this is worth retail and would not recommend.
Just my two cents.
Not spending that much. Hey look at me, I got fancy drunk.
$175? Most of that is for the fancy bottle. Worth it? no
It's not worth $400
I’ll spend no more than $120 and no less than $25 for good whiskey. I love me a finish that goes for miles, but It’s gotta have a complex consistent bourbon flavor where each sip keeps getting better, and has you coming back for more. I love WT, but this limited stuff just seems like a scam. I’ll buy whiskey For $175 if it came from a barrel made from an oak tree from God’s own backyard.
Butterscotch...caramel...toffee. This reminds me of the following dialogue between Lisa Simpson and photocopier guy:
Lisa: "I'd like 25 copies on goldenrod."
-- "Right."
Lisa: "Um, 25 on canary."
-- "Canary."
Lisa: "25 on saffron."
-- "Mm-hmm."
Lisa: "And 25 on paella."
-- "Okay. 100 yellow."
This comment is underrated. I even read that in my mind with the correct voices.
