    @trekkeruss Před 2 lety +5

    I have a 2009 EX, which I bought in part because of my dog, the one pictured in my profile. I think he loved it as much as I still do. I like the changes Honda made to the later model-year Elements. The seat belts built into the front seats is more convenient than having the belt in the rear door. The overhead storage console is better as well. I have most of the factory options; roof rack, door visors, dog friendly package, bike mounts, and the unique table legs kit, which turn the rear cargo floor/spare tire cover into a table for outdoor camping and entertainment. As a cyclist, I love that I can transport my bikes inside the vehicle, where they are out if the elements 😂 and out of sight of potential thieves.
    Things I don’t like? Gas mileage is pretty bad, but that’s the price you pay for the boxy design. The design also has a massive blind spot. The A pillars are so wide you could hide an elephant behind one. It’s a bit annoying and dangerous. Lastly, while I do like the clamshell doors, when you park in a confined space, it can be a hassle using both; opening and closing them to maneuver around. Even with its faults though, i am taking it to the grave with me!

Same as you I thought these were ugly, never liked them until I test drove one just for fun! Fell in love! Just an fyi, in case you didn't realize....there are slit pockets to tuck away the seat latch hooks and some models have an extension that slides out from the inner end of the visor for added coverage for the large windshield. Also, my mistake......I never noticed the cruise control on/off switch is way low along ther left side of the driver side dash, even though the actual cruise controls are on the steering wheel. 🤦🏽‍♀️

    I was in the Honda business when these came out. Honda’s target market was young males between 19-26. They were basically a CRV with a different body. I know I sold a lot more to retired people than I sold to the younger people who couldnt afford them or did t like them. Like he said, people either loved or hated them. They sold OK but not in the numbers Honda wanted. People complained that they blew around in the wind and were hard to see out of. They felt like you were sitting in a hole. CRV’s were FAR more popular! Now that they have been discontinued they are much sought after and VERY hard to find unless they are trashed with 250,000 miles. Go figure! No such thing as a Y package. This one is an EX. All EX’s had those almost useless rear sunroofs. Unless you bought a shade the sun would cook your rear passengers.

      @@SkiNShift - I have been saying for 5-years, since really wanting one, and wanted one even when they were new, that they would have a following and their prices would start increasing. I still think they are going to increase in price over the next 5-10 years as the next generation matures and starts looking to be more mobile and hip.
      There is a silver one for $14k with 133k miles, AWD, and automatic a few hours north. I could have bought that for 10k back in 2019. Inflation has caused some increase but I also think the car is increasing in value a bit.
      Another was listed yesterday for 4500 with 154k miles but it looks to need TLC, has a reconstructed title as well, not the color I want and it looks to be in a rough part of town. That speaks volumes where it comes from. I think it's a good deal but I do not want a car that needs TLC right now.

      It’s not 4WD, it’s all wheel drive. It’s front wheel drive and automatically sends power to the rear wheels when the car senses the wheels are slipping.

      Hey that’s not enough to turn me away from a k series engine ! It’ll outlive 99 percent of engines out there ! The valve adjustment thing , from where I come from isn’t that un common , maybe in modern day automotive engines but it still exists , many tight tolerance engine require this , even crotch rocket engines as well and I’m not talking super old either

    It’s not a real AWD the front wheels drive and when they spin rear wheels assist. Mileage is the biggest failure 20mpg

    • @SkiNShift
      @SkiNShift  Před 3 lety

      Yes this is true but as expected it’s a box and it’s still a bigger 4 cylinder by 2021 standards I would say

    • @hxhdfjifzirstc894
      @hxhdfjifzirstc894 Před 3 lety +1

      20mpg is okay. When these things came out, gasoline didn't have ethanol in it. Now it's like 15% ethanol, which robs you of MPG. Also, learn how I-VTEC works, and how to keep it activated. It's backwards from the usual Honda VTEC (you get BETTER MPG when your I-VTEC is activated, instead of more power).
      If you really care about this, you can attach a relay and LED to your VTEC solenoid, so you know when it's activated. On my Civic, it's between 1,500 rpm and 3,000 rpm under extremely light cruising throttle. You have to be really careful to BARELY rest your foot on the gas pedal (just enough to maintain speed). Then your MPG will increase a lot.

    • @mikekemsley1531
      @mikekemsley1531 Před 2 lety

      I agree about the crappy mpg. Also think it's way over priced. I have a 2003 and it does a bunch of things kind of well but nothing as spectacular as people make out. We use ours for camping with a Freeway camper kit. It's tight for 2 but not too bad for 1 person. If I want mileage I drive our Prius C which isn't a whole lot smaller.
