in the 60's when I was a kid we all had walkie talkies to play army (OMG we played outside) they had really long telescoping antennas that if you held the send buttons and slid the antennas along each other the GOD awful noise would make the bats run into the side of the barn at night

Better idea: Get the Nephew a gift card, keep the walkie talkies. Then do a small circuit bend and turn them into a wireless guitar unit.

Those are FRS (Family Radio Service) radios. You're lucky if you get 1/2 - 1 mile over average terrain. Less in a city. They're OK for around the house, but not a lot more. I agree with scott kc2cad's comment: If the kid shows any interest, introduce him/her to the idea of studying for a ham Technician's license (Lots of kids under 12-years-old are passing the test). If not, these are a marginally useful toy-ish set of radios that you don't need a license for. BTW, my ham call sign is W1NLJ. Good luck.

Just because of the antennas they use, you will get a mile at best, unless you are in a wide open area without structures. If you want serious communication gear, look into the BaoFeng UV-5R. It's a 5 watt output radio that covers a very wide range of frequencies. (VHF (136-174mhZ), UHF (400-520MHz), They can also connect to an external antenna and be programmed with a computer. They run about $23 each on Amazon, 20 years ago a radio like that would have cost $400+ dollars.

They are WAY better than the $100 pair of Cobras we have in our work truck. The nice part is that when we finally get our Samcom radios, we will have a nice couple of sets of radios for backup. The Tube would probably promote that idea.

All FRS Radios use the same band they are UHF some are 462 Mhz and the higher channels are 467 Mhz. On GMRS Channels 15-22 they are 462 MHZ some GMRS radio's that can talk to repeaters say Channel 1 462.550 Mhz you press the PTT then the transmit would be 467.550 Mhz so the repeater listens on 467.550 Mhz then retransmits on 462.550. Having a repeater is much better because you can get longer range depending on how high the Antenna is.

I bought an ONN alarm clock last year for like $9.99. So far, so good. and the digital display numbers are gigantic. Which at first when I saw them I laughed out loud. But now they just look normal. For this old fart anyways.

Is Brad going to call out Josh from JHS for bowing down to BLM or will he join the virtue signalling choir?

I've no idea what you're talking about with Josh from JHS.

Ok, I just watched it. Geez. Some people are just itching to fly that virtue flag, aren't they. If it wasn't this excuse, it would have been something else. The fact is, the statistics just do not bear his arguments out. These social ills go back to before we were all born. And the main problems in the black community seem to stem from the "Great Society" initiatives of do-gooder Democrats in the 1960s. They took away the black community's sense of self-worth and self-reliance, made them slaves on another kind of plantation - the kind that is inside their own heads.

@@Fixologist1 riiiight even though I mentioned what I'm talking about right in the OP. Next are you going to pretend you don't know how to use key words to search for JHS and BLM on CZcams? Oh yeah that's right you probably also have "no idea" what JHS and BLM are either amirite?

Before making a video reviewing FRS radios you should understand what they are, what frequencies they use and share with GMRS radios and why they are limited in wattage. Watch some videos from people who actually know what they are talking about. Explain what privacy tones actually are and how they are used. Don't try to figure out how they operate while doing a review.
