    A major design flaw with these is the plastic bracket/crank case cover. You will notice there is a large piece that protrudes where the carburetor attaches. This eventually cracks due to vibration. I had one with a hairline crack right at the base. That was leaking air causing the machine to run very strange. Drove me nuts.

  • @scottfirman
    @scottfirman Před 3 lety +1

    Any time you fix one of these, it's better than throwing it in the land fill. Sadly, most small engine shops charge what it costs for a new trimmer just to repair these. I know many shops now refuse to even work on them. I can usually buy a replacement carburetor with fuel lines, air filter, spark plug and whatever for $12-$14 . I rescue them whenever I can. Nice video.

    Lol It's funny that you are repairing the exact same type of trimmer that I purchased on eBay last year. It did not have the bottom shaft, spool cover and the clutch for my project trimmer. Well after reinstalling and fixing everything. It started to have issues with the pull rope mechanism. Actually, the gear started to slip inside the casing. Finally I got that fixed then I started to have issues with starting. At first it would start and stay for some time and then all of a sudden the engine shuts off. Not sure what's really happening? But now after looking at your repairs I think I should inspect the carburetor and see if there is any problem with it. Hey it cost me total of $70 and still not fixed. Your free trimmer is worth the repair for sure! I found out that I could buy almost new for about $89 LMAO! Well lessons learned!

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  Před 3 lety +1

      for this type of fuel filter setup you have almost zero line in the tank. Once the filter is on the line you have to push the filter so the stem and the fuel line is sticking out of the tank. I don't care for this design at all.

    • @999thenewman
      @999thenewman Před 3 lety +4

    Check the spark arrestor on the muffler clean it or take it out replaced all fuel lines should of been as far as you should of went till you played with it more messing with the carb is last thing. You play with also taking out the fuel adjust needle valves and squirting carb cleaner in it and I like the fast how you clean the carb screen but that how far I would of went if it was more buy a new carb here in Arizona we can't get parts for these weed eaters not even carbs

    Run it till it's done. Then buy a professional series Stihl or Husqvarna.

      @@HomeGaragechannel I run the heck out of both my stihls and Husqvarna and they're not phased by the very hard work that they do daily. Not even a little bit. As long as they have string in the cutting head, grease in the gear head and fuel and oil mix in the fuel tank they are ready to rip through whatever you need them to and they don't back down from much of anything green and growing.

    I hate bolens they have the worst design for a starter I had to fix the starter three times before I trashed the thing. I can't believe that they still sell it at lowes .maybe they revamped the design but I know the model I had was flawed

    You haven't added in your cost of labour so $14.50 is not a true cost of repair if you are going to sell it.
