The following video presentation is an artistic editing of the career of noted Television Artist Bob Ross. Spanning over 31 seasons the purpose is to present a common thread of activity that has woven the fabric of an entire career. From the very beginning, he taught us techniques for oil painting that every person could attempt from the humble novice, to the celebrated expert. He taught us about happy accidents, happy little clouds, and beating the devil out of it. From an early age I beheld the man with the kind voice, pretty paintings, and a downright percussive brush cleaning technique. It is that technique that is the focus of this video art project entitled: Beat the Devil out of it, 31 seasons of Bob Ross Cleaning his Brush. Enjoy.

I think half of the reason he giggles like that is because he finds it amusing when the camera crew tries to duck and cover to avoid the onslaught of flying paint particles. I'm rather surprised we never saw droplets on the camera lense.
Close the reason he laughs is because the producer sit right behind where he paints so when he does that he covers them with the paint thinner.

My ultimate favorite thing is that he's also messing with the sound crew that has to balance things. He loved trolling the whole crew and the broadcasting companies

......yes I did.....it was a long process. Some of the episodes didn't include a brush beating bit.

So you're saying you watched all 408 episodes of Joy of Painting. My god, average of around 28 minutes every episode. 408 x 28 = 11424 hours of watching. 68 weeks.
I accidentally and unknowingly had "Red Space" playing in another window while this video played. I was listening to Bob beat the devil out of his brush while dark, ominous music played in the background and for a moment I thought I was having a flashback to my acid days. You can imagine my relief when I realized my mistake.
That was no mistake. It was a happy accident

Bravo! :D I once went to a wine-and-painting event, and it took every ounce of my willpower to NOT beat the devil out of the paintbrushes in polite company. It was so tempting. Especially after a few glasses of wine.
Back when I was in high school I used to paint using the Bob Ross oil technique. Never did I dare spread paint and odorless thinner all over my parent's living room! ....but I was tempted :)
That's awesome! :) His techniques were quite ingenious. They made it possible to create natural randomness in deliberately placed strokes. My teachers in art school liked to make fun of him (of course) but I used elements of his techniques in non-landscape paintings, the results of which the teachers fawned over without an inkling of a notion that I utilized what they closed-mindedly shunned for being "too pedestrian."
Bob Ross is one of the few people about whose death I remember everything - where I was, who was around me, what I was wearing, the objects in the room, you name it. He died a few months after I graduated high school, and it felt like losing one of my best childhood friends.
You'll be pleased to know that when I was bar tending at a rather posh house party, the topic of Bob Ross came up. When an art historian began bashing him she was quickly rebuffed by almost everyone in the room. The people will always love him :)
