I loved the haven tea rooms, used to go there a couple of times while we were there on holiday, so sad to see it gone
It use to be a lovely place, gorgeous views 👍😁😎
Excellent video, that was a wonderful walk. I wonder if this road will ever re-open 🤔. Look forward to your next walk 👍😁😎
Brilliant walk Steve I've seen recent drone footage of this landslip and the road is perilously close to the edge in places I think it's very unwise to ever open to large vehicles like buses and lorries! But what i do know is that the Devils chimney was a big loss as so many people have memories of this area! A big tourist attraction and one of the wonders of the Isle of Wight 👍
Is the recent drone footage on CZcams? I find it fascinating - terribly sad for the people losing their homes and livelihoods but an amazing bit of geology
May take a trip down there my self👍
Find out what went in landfill under the road and carpark , you may be suprised , a similar land/road slip near New Quay Wales turned out to be when they were making the road they put in tons of rubbish and old cars etc , which eventually rotted away and caused a landslide.
The area affected is chalk on lower greensand hundreds of feet down and at Arreton Downs in the middle of the island where rainfall had flowed for months to finally reach this area and cause this devastation I'd describe it like marbles under a board! Water flow moves anything!👍
@@rogereheadbyrne4790 So potentially caused by the step up of geoengineering , I presume you are having heavy deployment like the mainland? We had 5 months of heavy rain , destroyed a lot of our early crops.
Exactly - marbles!
Thanks for these videos, they evoke such lovely memories. We spent our annual holiday staying in Bonchurch when I was aged about 7 to 17. We always walked from there to Shanklin and back each year plus Ventnor etc. and seeing your walks takes me back. I stayed in Ventor last year, visiting the Isle for the first time in 40 odd years and did the Ventor to Shanklin walk. It was so memory provoking but the route has changed so much, due to land slips. The walk I took no longer exists in parts, due to the huge slip last year!
Brilliant and interesting video as always. Shame you didn’t go through the closed landslip path to take a sneaky look. Love to see the state by the wishing seat
Watch this space...
Its easy enough to get down to,its still there,i only live up the road from it.
You always make me so nervous when you stand by te edge lol.
Me too..... I'm terrified of heights
Thanks
Thanks buddy. Your ongoing support is a great motivator : )
Hi Steve. You mentioned a couple of months back that you might get yourself a macbook or something similar to learn video editing. If that's still the case, I'll be in Ventnor in a few weeks and you can have my old 2016 macbook pro for free. It's in decent condition. Let me know :)
That's an amazing gesture. It would certainly transform my editing capabilities so if you're sure i'd love to say yes. Very kind, thank you 😊
@@Cornishvandweller Yep, not a problem. It's not being used, so might as well go to someone who will!
@@Cornishvandweller Hi again. I will be in Ventnor from Friday afternoon until Tuesday morning, so if you're still interested, let me know and I'll bring it over to you at a coffee shop or something :)
@@kweeh I'd definitely be interested but unfortunately I'm away at the moment and unlikely to get back in time - it's a real pain. Thanks though - very much appreciated
