This movie helped me walk out of a relation which badly hurt me, and taught me to love again. Love is not only about the right people, but also about right time.
Two things I would like to share with you Being with the right person at the wrong time is like being with the wrong person anytime. Everyone always thinks of finding the right person no one thinks of being the right person.
I've been in a similar situation and it's funny because I thought I was being summer at the beginning, but I ended up being Tom. And having seen this movie before I always knew it wasn't summer's fault. It's actually nobody's fault, that's just how things are and how things are meant to happen. Relationships are complicated and sometimes we don't know how to act. They were different and needed different things. It doesn't mean summer didn't care for Tom... You just can't expect people to stay if they don't feel the same way you feel about them. At the end of the day, the love, all the feelings and experiences shared are something wonderful and they make you who you are, they lead you were you're supposed to be. I know it hurts, but I wouldn't change what we lived for anything. I'm happy.
Don't worry, we're on the same boat. It's been more than a year, still haven't budged an inch. Lost many opportunities and yet still haven't moved. Our loyalty is our stupidity.
This honestly reminds me of how I feel with failed relationships. It's the perfect song and compilation of events throughout the movie that just eminates a sense of despair or loneliness.

Tom is in the wrong, placing so many expectations on a woman that set clear boundaries about those expectations; Summer repeatedly crosses those boundaries together with Tom, and then tries to run away when he responds to that. They hurt each other - But it was a kind of hurt that they learned from in the end; and the most important lesson was that while they were important to each other, they weren't able to function together due to who they were in their lives at that point - and perhaps they never would have functioned in the long run, either, but that does not diminish the lessons they learned from each other.
I always liked this song too much, but I didn't care for the lyrics back then and 500 days w/Summer was just a good movie. Now the lyrics make sense. Now I hate Summer in the movie because she reminds me so much of this girl. And then it hit me: I was fucking Tom. We were Tom and Summer. My heart aches.
The split screen section is so accurate. When he sees her showing off the engagement ring reminds me of something I have experienced, but I can't quite recall what it was. May be my mind has stashed it away somewhere.

like many people, i too have been tom, and we've all got our 500 days of someone. and it was truly not anyone's fault, that's just the way love goes, we love too much right in the moments where our blind eyes don't let us understand that we are not equally loved, but it doesn't matter,this moments are worth living, that crazy love,it doesn't matter how it might end, I say it's always worth living it.and for me, i did kinda found my auttumn. but she left me too...I'm still positive though

couldnt agree more. I lived out a similar situation that joseph gordon levitt did in the movie. Summer really did nothing wrong. He just wasn't what she wanted, but since the movie is seen through his point of view, then you see how it really feels to fall so hard for someone and you can't get over them. it really shows what it feels like to make more of a situation than what's really there. I'm just like that and people who aren't can understand through this movie
A Modern Romantic Masterpiece. I wept sore at his loss. All those times in one's past of Love lost came rushing back to memory. Love this film for life.
