In college, I had a stereo that had an alarm function, and you could set any CD you put in it to play as the alarm sound. I made my roommates completely nuts by making this my alarm, and I still have that "3, 2, 1..." intro burned into my brain from hearing it so many mornings and trying to get to the alarm to turn it off before the brutal guitar kicked in. Good memories!

Ennio Morricone's harmonica theme from Once Upon a Time in America and Sex Machine by James Brown were two favorites. To this day (30 years later) he says those two tracks pop into his brain on a regular basis.

when it came out i was not sure what to think about this album. now i am sure that it's the best ministry album. they've peaked with "psalm 69" in their style developed since "the land of rape & honey" and there were only two ways for them to go - to start chasing their own tail or take a sharp turn. so with "filth pig" they took that sharp turn.
but after "filth pig" it all went down.

Became a Ministry fan LATE, LATE, LATE in Life. But that shit don't shame me. I binge all the "great" shows years after they've concluded, don't rush to watch hit movies...I catch up to them eventually and I love it just fine. I didn't even fall in love with BUKOWSKI until last year and I'm in my 30's now: 400 other books read before the fact. BUT! Ministry was different. I started collecting records VERY early in life. They replaced the toys once Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles insisted on having Vanilla Ice involved in the franchise. Caught GRUNGE craze early. NIN caught my eye early, too, before Downward. My Metal was ALWAYS up to date but the limits to my Industrial knowledge in grade school was God Lives Under Water (remember them?) - Ministry just never caught my eye back then because I was brought up in a generation that gave me fuckin' ROB ZOMBIE first, unfortunately...so if I saw Uncle Al in a mag or on tv or whatever I THOUGHT HE WAS COPYING ROB bc I was a young idiot. Once I got into Ministry I fell for em HARD, kid... Had long late night/early AM chats w/ Ministry elitists who disown ANYTHING before "Psalm" but I gotta stand my ground: as much a love ALL the LPs before this one (yeah I like With Sympathy) FILTH PIG has always been my favorite. I was going thru a fucking HORRIFIC addiction to dope a few years ago and I'd listen to this non-stop in the midst of it but for some reason I can still listen to this with fresh ears, no Trigger Fingers, just bliss & achieving bliss from all the fantastic DURGE on this album just validates that I'm obviously a batshit crazy asshole, but a very happy one. Cheers, J.

Can't believe all these years I didn't listen to the whole album or buy it because I thought it was a hastily put together pile of scrap they put out to cover the costs of their drug conviction.

When AmeriKKKant was going to come out & I heard "Twilight Zone" drop I was like, "It's Filth Pig II"! When the album came out I could hear a lot of revisiting to this one. It was a good album in it's own right though. Grandpa Jourgensen rules!

This isn't an insult just an observation but if someone told me U2 co-produced this album, I'd believe them.

I love this album, but if Al had replaced Lay Lady Lay with If Paisley Could Fly my opinion would be even higher. The album is solid as hell until the last 2 tracks.

I got all early Ministry albums. I would have loved if they experimented more with electroic industrial sounds instead of going for a more repetitive kind of little industrial with metal guitars. I love metal in its different genres and subgenres as much as old school punk and hc but The land of rape and honey was much different better in my opinion. Found this 2nd hand today will listen when i have time and see....in the i bought it super cheap and liking it. Slower sludgier but good.

I remember buying this one on the day it came out and being pissed off about paying money for it. I'd been a Ministry fan since Rape and Honey. This to me is the moment they became just another metal band. Psalm 69 was their last great album. I'm shocked at how many people like this but Ministry definitely garnered a pretty big fan base once they became a metal band rather than an industrial band that had some metal in it. To each their own. Al and Paul are definitely great musicians but I had to bow out once they went in this direction. It just wasn't electronic enough anymore and therefore far less interesting.
