  • Hastings Pier and its environs in old photographs from before it was built, to its last days. If you want to look at any picture for a longer time, remember you can stop the CZcams video whenever you like!

some great pic of Hastings, looks much better in the old days, now it has lost a lot of its charm.

Wonderful memories. I lived in St-Leonard’s warrior square in the 70’s. I loved walking up the cliffs by the old town’s lift and onto fairlight glen. Thank you for this upload.

Mark Bartlett This is a project you could yourself do on your computer. If you are interested please drop in at Hastings Museum on any Wednesday 10 am till 2pm. The person you need to ask for is Andre Palfray-Martin. You will need to reseach the software side of it yourself. You are allowed to photograph images in the Museum's collection and transfer them to your computer.. Many images have been transferred already. If you don't have any money, there is a freeware programme called OpenBVE you could start with. You will have to drive a tram along Robertson Street! Have fun doing this project. Hey why not get started right now? Download OpenBVE.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sadly, after being brought up in Hastings from 1979 to 2001 I moved to Scotland, but still call Hastings home. Next time I'm down though, i will certainly have to pop in to the museum. Is it still on Bohemia road?

Mark Bartlett The Museum is in St John's Place which is off Bohemia Road. Have you got a copy of 'Unseen Hastings' ? If you can't get to the museum in person, you can contact them by email. See their website.

Oh, the museum is still in the same place then, next to what used to be the R.E.S.H. I've seen the book before when looking for old photographs, but don't have a copy. I may be coming down in August, so will visit the museum while i'm there. There seems to be loads of videos and photo's popping up of Hastings lately, so more to add to my collection. :) Thanks for your help.

Ignoring the slightly robotic voiceover and a couple of inaccuracies, there's some nice old photos here.

Slightly robotic? I didn't have a microphone. The voice is computer generated!

Hi there, we've been enjoying watching this. We film 4k natural sight and sound walks in soulful cities and have just added Hastings, so it's very interesting to see the contrast, thank you for taking the time to add it. It's good to share.

The last time Hastings was civilised was the late 1950s. Post 1950s and Hastings went into serious decline.

The photographic evidence suggests an improvement in the 21st century with the Pier having been reconstructed. The most dismal period of time for the pier was the years before the fire. Thanks for watching.
