The verse riff for Powerslave (written by Bruce!) is one of my favorite riffs to play. It's pretty simple really, but it sounds so cool! (And I usually play it way too fast)

its great that you don't limit yourself completely to hard rock and metal (even though those are my favorite genres) but include artists like Micheal Jackson and Laura Branigan and are also a fan of Prince , you absolutely nailed that harmonic bend on Panama! are you playing through the Fender Tone Master or another unit ? because your tone is spot on

I forgot all about the cool riff in the opening of the Laura Brannigan song. Warran DeMartini was and is one of my favorite guitarists. I got his autograph on a Ratt cassette before a concert in 84 or 85.

day-um! I've been playing 40 years and you're already better than me by miles! The first video I saw of you (yesterday) was your 1987 favorite riff video. 84 and 87 were good years. The 80's catch some negativity - deservedly to be honest - but there was some good music - don't forget 1984 (Prince/Purple Rain album - Computer Blue - excellent shred - Culture Club "Miss Me Blind" (the guitar solo) - Cyndi Lauper "Money Changes Everything" guitar funk rhythm. My favorite from HYSTERIA is "Women." Nice back-and -fourth between Collen and Clark. Best to you.

Solid choices. I think I would have substituted "Bad Boys Running Wild" for "...Hurricane", Metallica's "Call Of Ktulu" for "State Of Shock" and Great White's "Streetkiller" for "Self Control", but those were still great songs in their own right.

Nice choices. I couldn't pick a top 5 list for riffs from the year 1984, because songs 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9 from the album 1984 would have to be on it, and that's already 6, plus there's the songs from other bands.
Van Halen albums are like that, though.

Lists are always fun, even though people get mad when it doesn't match their lists. I like the thought and reasoning you put into yours. Rock You Like a Hurricane was my favorite from your list. I was in 10th grade that year. These lists bring back so many memories. Your covers are always great.

I can't argue with any of those. Rock you like a Hurricane was the first riff I ever learned in 94. Still the first thing I play when trying a new guitar
EVH and Warren DeMartini are my two biggest sound influences and why I tend to use high output alnico ii humbuckers.

Saw Scorpions 🦂 live in London in 1980 at the release of Animal Magnetism with their new guitarist Matthias Jabs who is highly underrated & and excellent guitar player.
Rudolf Schenker’s brother the great Michael Schenker had just left UFO the year previously & came onstage to play Coast To Coast the instrumental that he wrote for their album Lovedrive ( which he wrote & played 5 tracks on ). Awesome concert.
Also saw the Scorps again in 1984 promoting Love At First Sting which GBA showcases here.

@@guitarbyash Klaus Meine the vocalist disbanded Scorpions 🦂 few years ago recently. These guys are gettin up into their 70’s. Phil Mogg the vocalist of UFO disbanded also 3-4 years ago shortly before original bassist Pete Way passed.
Priest’s vocalist Rob Halford is 74.
Richie Faulkner is the youngest Priest band member at 44.
Their album Invincible Shield 🛡️ released 3 days ago is outstanding, Faulkner’s riffs chordal work fills & solos are superb.
Halford’s singing is still vocally impressive.
Apart from Halford’s lifestyle ( which as a Christian, me, of 27 years standing I’m unable to approve of ) he’s excelling at his profession.
Michael Schenker is 67.
The guitar player who transformed UFO in 1974 from a space prog band into the heavy rock band they latterly became.
The issue is, all these guys are reaching their more senior years.
I myself am 61 in July ‘24, the 80’s & 90’s was my younger days time.
You look young lady like you’re in your mid ( possibly ) ‘20s, my classically trained daughter is 30 in May, plays for Statne Philharmonie Kosice as a viola 🎻 player. Iv played her many of the rock songs that I grew up with & as a musician herself, she appreciates the talent of the guys that were from my time.
I saw Michael Schenker play with the late Cozy Powell in 1981 amid MSG’s European tour of MSG II.
Stunning performance.
Iv seen Michael Schenker more than any other rock guitarist as he’s my inspiration.
I saw Rush at Wembley & again in London for Permanent Waves & Moving Pictures. Another superlative band that we will not see the likes of again, as drummer Neil Peart ( arguably the best rock drummer of the 20C ) passed 5-6 years ago.
Saw Thin Lizzy with Phil Lynott & Gary Moore on the Chinatown tour.
You can still see these bands on the DVD’s they have produced of live shows such as Rush In Rio, & a lot of their performances are on CZcams.
I’m most blessed that I got to see these bands in their prime years.
I used to say, that if ya hadn’t seen UFO with Michael Schenker , ya hadn’t lived!!

I was a angry at the world 13 yr old in 84'. Heard all these on the radio and hated them. Now in my 50's I remember them fondly....weird right?

Excellent tunes and guitar playing. 3 of my favorite albums are Victims of the Future, Run for Cover and After the war. Ozzy sings on a tune on that one (Led Clones) 🤘
