I’m from Smith raised there , and that church is Faith Holiness pastored by Spencer Burkhart! The Full Gospel Pentecostal Church which was Pastored by Rev. Ernest Hensley, the Baptism spot is right below that church which is brick, it’s called by the locals the Shaney Hole it’s used by both churches. If you cut left from where your at stay on 987 you will come to 2005 which will take you to Black Star and over to Pathfork, KY. If you stay on 987 and pass up 2005 you will come out at Cubbage and through shilalah village which will bring you out at Middlesboro @ Lonejack school. If you bypass the cubbage bridge and stay on 987 if will bring you out in Pineville, KY. Out on 119. That yellow store was the happening place back in the day it was called Hensley Grocery ran by Bert and Mae Hensley. Mae’s sister Susie Daniels runs it from time to time. It has a few groceries and a pool table. That ATV course is owned by my cousin Marshall Wayne Smith. Smith, Ky, is the most beautiful place in Harlan Co. I love Harlan Co. but you couldn’t give me all of Harlan Co. to replace Smith! Best memories, church, lake, 4 wheelin ‘ and people in Smith!! The Middleton cemetery to your right will take you up to the Hagan Trail across Virginia. If you would’ve started @ the head of Smith you would’ve seen the Daniels Cemtery, The Britton Cemetery across Kelly Smith Bridge, Smith Cemetery is right past the first bridge on your left! Stone Mtn in Smith is a beautiful 4 wheel ride. It’s home to the Rock House and white rocks and home to the Quadra Falls as Gov. Beshear named it and us boys and families had been back there and knew of the falls long before the state ever seen them! Thanks for posting & God Bless, if you have any questions feel free to ask ! Thanks for posting God Bless y’all. It’s what I call Pure Gods Country! Smith used to be a part of Virginia, it was called Sampson!

Born and raised about a 1/2 mile from the start of the video. Family has lived in Smith for close to 150 years, didn’t realize how beautiful it was until I left.

My grandparents, aunts and uncles farms are under the lake now. I spent a lot of time there from 1935 until the land was sold to the Army Corp of Engineers. My family had a cabin near my grandparents that we spent many summers in. That was in the 40s and 50s.
My relatives are Smiths, Ledfords, and Burkharts. Some are still living there. I left Harlan County in the 1950s and it wasn't until 2002 that I visited the lake. It's beautiful and I wish it would become more of a tourist destination since the coal businesses is nearly gone. Southeastern KY is beautiful. The State should capitalize on that like the mountains of NC have done. I lived in the NC mountains for 20 years and it's no more beautiful than Harlan but THE ROADS ARE BETTER!!!
    Thanks for the video.

We had such a good time while in Harlan last week! We also drove around Martins Fork lake. Absolutely beautiful! And one of our top 5 places that we’re considering looking at houses in. 🥰

Enjoyed, back in the early 80’s as a kid we lived in Harlan Co. Cumberland for five years. Exploring with google earth lots of changes. The highway (US-119) was two lane and now a four lane. We lived East of Kingdom Come State Park. Thanks 👍

I thoroughly enjoyed traveling down the backroads with y’all. I’m a backroad, dirt road gal. I hate interstates & 4-lanes. Thank y’all for allowing me to join ya. ♥️

    Hi Ignited & Mrs Coyote
Yep those steps leading from the road to the water that site sure looked like a baptismal site.
Wanted to ask you. Would you do a visit to Brookside Kentucky near Harlan where the famous mine strike happened. A documentary film Harlan County USA was filmed there.
Love your channel and really enjoy these driving along with you videos.

I love your videos. Question ! There are numerous hill/mountain creeks, streams, ponds, lakes & rivers in most every video. Other than mining retention ponds or slag ponds, how good & how clean is most of the water in the large area near you ? Thanks !
