- Yaesu FT-857D field operation. A live tutorial on how to receive the best audio from the Yaesu FT-857D. There are several settings like the IPO and ALC that need to be taken into consideration to receive great audio. In addition, if your audio is distorted, I'll show you some settings you can do to combat those issues.

You gotta lover your FT-857D. It is top shelf for mobile or Emcom portable.
The Collins filter is helpful when you have an interfering signal, one that is very close to where you’re tuned to. This happens primarily when the band is congested. The band pass of the Collins is much sharper than the radio’s built in. So less of the adjacent interferer leaks through.
You don’t hear any difference in the demonsterated scenaro because there is no adjacent channel interference.
I have never used the DISP 41 to help set levels. Good video.
There used to be a good article on the PROC circuit in setting level, why it doesn't work as a real compressor, and how to mod the circuit.
Lower processor in the 25-30 range seems to be more ideal.

What type of antenna are you using? and are you using a antenna tuner?

Good videos but you had the volumn on radio to loud an could not hear you talking.
