No, actually if you check Setlist.fm (which is what I did), it clearly shows that this is the only time Loneliness was played live.

Gabriel Valles I wish they'd play it live again. Fantastic song with some of the best soloing. The whole of that album is fucking astounding.

It's great, but not the best from that album. But it could definitely replace Iron Maiden, because they've played that song on every single concert. And it's not really that good either.

Does anyone know why this is the first and only time they played this song?? This is seriously one of their SICKEST songs and a very underrated track imo and it's almost a shame they haven't ever graced the ears of millions with it live.
Reece Eber I don’t think it’s ever really been documented why it wasn’t played at any other gigs. To me, it sounds pretty good, especially as this was the first night of the tour, in a gymnasium in Eastern Europe, over 30 years ago. I’m sure they could do this amazing track justice now!
I read somewhere that Steve thought it didn't fit into the setlist well enough, or didn't work well live or something like that. Mistake!
I suspect it is a hard one for bruce. this one is good but I saw another where he couldnt really catch the highest notes

@@christschinwon No, this whole tour, Bruce vocals were off, because they had just finished touring non-stop, to an extent you don't see now(Check the Paris live show). Literally he was thinking of leaving the band for a break after this and if you remember he contributed zilch to the making of this album.I wouldn't be surprised if this iss the reason they don't play many songs on this masterpiece of an album,

They played this masterpiece just one time, in Yugoslavia, Beograd in 1986.
Those first 20 seconds are very atmospheric. I love it. Wish more albums had this type of sound.
I'm glad you have notticed this.nobody else can play the opening riff with the delicacy and atmosphere that Adrian does on the album and here. Check tribute renditions on CZcams, they either play the opening riff to heavy or too light and it ruins the lead into the song
Let's hope this song is revisited for the 2023 tour which involves this album a lot more!

That was the first concert on SOMEWHERE IN TIME world tour, MAIDENS start in Belgrade, and I was there ... :-) at my 15 th.
This was also the only time the ever did this song live. Nice one!

I think the song didnt work live for Bruce. Lyrics are too fast and he struggles hard to get the notes in the right pich, mostly he just cant make it.

@@Rowlph8888 paris concert is absolutely top quality , just wish heaven can wait wasn't cut off badly , i think it was filmed with a pro camera from far , it's like they used this footage for the screens and it made it's way to public

Without a doubt one of the best ( if not the best ) songs from the masterpiece album Somewhere in time....you love the album more and more each time you hear it, and to me it will forever be one of their very best....Golden and truly superb !!

A forgotten jewel in their discography !! I love the song and its new and dreamlike sound...I truly believe Somewhere in Time is one of their best albums,many gorgeous songs, just like this one...It would really be fantastic to hear with their present line-up....
I have been tweeting at the band since I bought tix to Toronto to play this song on this next leg of the tour. I like to crank it to max volume the last minute of this epic song. Fav song off the album. 38 years since last played live.

Notice how delicate and tender Adrian plays the opening riff. Look on you tube at everyone who hashes this up by being too heavy, or to light, on the opening riff and spoils the tenderness of the melody, as it leads into the heavier part

I absolutely love this song and it will always be my favorite Maiden song on my favorite Maiden album. If they want to give us a true legacy tour, please scrap about half of the worn out tracks and replace them will jewels like this one that everyone would love to hear live.
Peak Maiden. They absolutely nailed it! Even Bruce being a little off-pitch isn't jarring because it's kind of shouted/barked at parts and it totally works.
Somewhere in time is the forgotten album. They just play 2 songs from the entire album, Wasted Years and Heaven Can Wait. They need to play this song along with Caught Somewhere in Time live!!!!
I think they've almost entirely stopped,playing songs from this era. I heard rumors that they go as far back as Fear of The Dark, and that's it.

Amazing! A couple of years ago a record company released the whole Belgrade set on a double vinyl set. Of course I bought it at once. Also included a big poster of the concert. Too bad Iron Maiden never played again this masterpiece in concert. Their 80's era is one of a kind. Up the Irons!

yup. Harris talked about loving the song in rehearsals and after the first time doing it live with the set, he didn't like the way it fit and they dropped it after the first night....

Es una de mis favoritas de Maiden. Al parecer es la única vez que la tocaron en vivo. Me atrevo a suponer que no se animan a tocarla por la dificultad vocal, pues Bruce aquí está algo desafinado y se nota que está sufriendo para llegar a las notas largas. Tal vez me equivoco y canta así por agotamiento. Tal vez sea otro el motivo.
Aún así, este audio es inédito. Gracias por compartirlo.

From what I’ve learned that ‘The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner’ just didn’t fit in with the set. I for one love this song. It fits so well with the set that Maiden did on that tour. This’ the only time that it was ever performed live.
That's just a convenient excuse.
The reality is that this song is really hard to sing, expecially in the chorus as most of the songs from "Somewhere in Time".
I can understand why they didn't play it live anymore, it could compromise an entire performance.
@@Thorgrim But I don't really hear Bruce struggling here that much. Sure, the sound is crap so I can't hear ins and outs very well, but I hear Maiden play difficult to sing songs live all the time. For example, Bruce never really could nail the ending of Aces High and the studio version sounds the best to this day yet they play it a lot lately. In other words, I don't really see Bruce in his prime struggling with this song in particular to the point of compromising entire performance.
@@Thorgrim I met Steve Harris right before the ‘08 tour was about to start and he told me that the band was considering adding it to there set, but the opted to do “Fear of the Dark” instead. My opinion is that this awesome song would’ve fit so much better. Also considering that the ‘08 tour was supposed to have songs from the first seven Maiden albums.

I disagree with a lot of the comments. If we were to split their catalog in 2 halves: the better, and the lesser. I would put this song on the lesser. I'm not saying it sucks. Just not their best 100.

No, this isn't on Live After Death, this song wasn't even written when they released Live After Death. This show in Belgrade in 1986 was the only time they played this song live.
