    Thanks for another great review! Your videos made me buy a SRH1540 and a Clear MG pro, happy with both.

    I'm really glad that you have Sennheiser HD 8XX on your hands and reviewed them for us, even though these are little too expensive for me have for gaming but I've always been curious about HD 8XX. Thank you!

    This is a solid review. I’ve been eye balling this headphone due to its price over the hd800s. While the imagery is a bit of a let down. I too, have plenty of headphones that do well with imaging and soundstage. But I’ve always been curious of the soundstage of the hd800s. I tend to play mostly single player games and a little bit of multiplayer on the side. I’ve been playing a lot of insurgency: sandstorm and hell let loose a lot here lately and those games have a fantastic sound design that I’m looking for a wide, spacious, headphone with a lively more fun sound to it. I’ve heard the hd800s is really flat sounding, which is not what I’m looking for. I’m more into the immersion aspect then being sweaty. So this headphone might peak my interest. Thanks again for your input!

    I actually just got a pair of these for gaming! I've been wanting 800s for a while to upgrade from my 700s but didn't wanna spend 1600 bucks. I was weary because of reviews of the 8xx, however for my needs they're incredible. I also got them for 800 dollars brand new and am in love

    Love the videos. I think there will be a crowd of WZ players coming your way soon. Maybe an update of your favorite gaming headphones could be in order. Also, anything you currently recommend over the DT880s in that price range for gaming?

      Thank you so much for the kind words and support.
      I think that depending on sound preference, the Tygr 300R and 560s are in that same conversation.

    Which would you recommend for gaming HD8XX or Focal Clear MG?

    Any chance of doing a TIER gaming headphone video? you have a ton of great reviews, and in lot of them yo do compare a good amount, but a tier list does give a more easy to read and for new subscriptions a place to start to go into your reviews upon the placement on your Tier list. If you do make it maybe update it every two or so years to continue to have it with the new reviews.

    Great review as always. I see that you have the 880 and the crack 1.1, how do they sound together? I'm planning to try tubing my beyers

      honestly I have found the BHC to be a nice compliment to several headphones, but I do not hear or measure much difference with my 880's

    Awesome video! Been watching your stuff for a while (actually going to pick up a pair of Focal MG Pros based off your review when some funds become available 👍🏻 In the meantime, you said the original HD800 was the best imaging available correct? How does it compare to something like the Audeze Mobius? I looked for a review for the Mobius and Penrose, but it doesn't look like you reviewed either. Have you gotten a chance to test them? Really interested in buying the HD800 in the meantime, but I have a Mobius right now. I am a competitive gamer and a content creator, would they be worth the investment over what I have currently.

    I heard if you do the sticker mod to these, they sound identical to an hd800s. Would be curious to see objective measurement comparisons

    for 1100$ honestly i'd have just added the 400$ to get the "Real Deal" HD800s.
    but i just got them for 700$, and for 700$ nothing in the market can actually match these or even get close in terms of soundstage clarity and note separation.
    i believe though that these flopped really for Drop, the HD8xx have really awful reviews - most people thought that Drop would make these "a fixed HD800s for a lot cheaper", just like they did with the HD6xx essentially being the HD650 just significantly cheaper.
    now personally i think that for the 1100$ MSRP that Drop is charging for these they should've went a similar route they did with the HD6XX, but since these are on 35-43% discount nearly most of the time (with coupons mind you) i personally think that even with all of their flaws these are a BARGAIN for 700$.

    • @frozezone22
      @frozezone22 Před 2 lety

      Thinking about these for $700 with zeos8xx code. Then purchase a balanced cable for my modius magnius stack. How are the 8xx for you personally.

    • @HoLDoN4Sec
      @HoLDoN4Sec Před 2 lety

      @@frozezone22 well, these are definitely NOT an HD800 that's for sure.
      BUT, you could make them sound really close to the HD800s with a few EQ tweaks, and apparently from Zeos if you use the perforated leather pads from Dekoni on them their sound gets really well.
      for 700$ i think they outclass anything else in that price category. but of course it does depend on your own listening preferences.
      but these really shine so well in gaming, i play Insurgency: Sandstorm quite a lot, and that is a game which has incredibly good sound. the HD800's get a tiny bit harsh with some of the sounds due to their exaggerated sibilance so usually i would just lower the highs in EQ and that would solve it, with the HD8XX you get no sibilance in that game out of the box, the sound of them is definitely warmer than my good old HD800's but for me it feels like Drop tuned these to be more "fun" sounding rather than analytical like the rest of the HD800 line is known to be. i do understand the big negative feedback that everyone got about these, its because people literally thought that the HD8XX are going to be a cheaper version of the HD800S, just like how drop did the HD6XX which is just a repainted HD650 for much cheaper.
      so in conclusion, the HD8XX is NOT a true HD800 type of headphones BUT with EQ adjustments you can get it sounding incredibly similar to the HD800S and for 700$ vs 1600$, a slight difference in sound (maybe 3% more clarity in the midrange) is completely negligible and isn't worth the 900$ difference in my opinion.
      i still stand by what i originally wrote though, if these were 1100$ than i'd just shell out another 400$ and get the HD800S, but for 699$? these are a BARGAIN.
      i personally use a tube amp (darkvoice) and i don't have a solid state amp (except for maybe a AE5 Soundcard which i hardly plug into? lol) so with a solid state amp your sound would be less warm and in the end the results i'm getting with my setup could vary from me to you.
      but i guess the benefit of ordering these from Drop is that you have a 30-Day return window to get your money back, if you don't like them you can just send them back.

    Got myself a pair of these for 750 bucks brand new. Stock tuning they sound "weird" honestly... kind of like the mid-bass clouds the air and surrounds your head with mid-bass presence (if that makes any sense)
    The AMAZING thing about this headphone is that you can EASILY EQ this poor sound trait and get them to sound more closer if not exactly like the HD-800S. After EQ these are a STEAL if you can get them for less than 800 (less than 50% of the HD-800S)

      did you just EQ them or did the sticker mod as well?
