Mikal Bridges Is Better Than Any Of Us Thought

  • When the Brooklyn Nets traded Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns last week in exchange for Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson and picks, some outsiders were quick to say Brooklyn sold low on KD because of the players they got back. There were plenty of people referring to Mikal and Cam as just good role players. However, Mikal Bridges is seemingly much more than a role player. He’s been one of the best defenders in the league for a while now, even finishing 2nd in Defensive player of the year voting last season. Where the shift has come is on the offensive end, where he's shown a new ability to be a team’s primary offensive option, displayed by his career high 45 points against the Heat last night. A lot of this scoring came with either Jimmy Butler or Bam Adebayo as the primary defender, and he was cooking anyway. This dude is a lot better than any of us thought. With the defense he offers, if he can continue to stay a lethal offensive option like he’s been, he can be a similar player to someone like Paul George or Kawhi Leonard. To truly understand how good the man now known as Brooklyn Bridges can be, let’s look at his career so far and his recent play.
    Think about subbing, I'm on the road to 5k!!!

    4 years of development to waste because this owner decided to rush things and chase a ring.

      You can't blame the Suns for going all in to win the chip now. They're favorites to get out of the west. Durant is that good. You'll see hoe easy he gets 30 without many shot. They'll be open shot for everyone off double teams between him and Booker.

    You know... They say in coaching that your perspective changes when you move from assistant to head coach. I think this transition will be the same for Mikal "Brooklyn" Bridges. If he keeps the dog in himself fed, he'll thrive. I hope he does. By all accounts, he's bringing new (positive) energy to the team and folks are rallying behind him. Still, it has to be "a thing" to wake up one morning and realize that you're "that guy". He pretty much admitted that he had to grow up a lot quicker than he anticipated. That kind of self-awareness gives me confidence.
    Also, can we give some love to Cam Johnson? Everyone is talking about Cam Thomas, and rightfully so, but Cam Johnson is making a case for himself as well. A stretch 4 who will defend as well?! He dropped a quiet 18 as the second fiddle of M.B's career night.

  • @Ballen81587
    @Ballen81587 Před rokem +3

    Kd and Kyrie were great players but as someone who watches every nets game since the trade their ball movement has been so much better than it ever was. Bridges and these guys are unselfish players (cam Thomas needs some work on this at times). They don’t turn the ball over near as much either KD was a great player but he was prone to making bad passes and turning it over
    I’m very excited about the future of this team and now the drama is out the door and we have a fun young group of players to get behind

    Thanks. Who knew. Remember even though his mother worked for the fabulous Sixers and he wanted to play there they still traded him away, as they did after running Markelle out for nothing as they believed he was a weird malingerer. Philadelphia is a cruel city in which to fall short.

    There are a outstanding defenders who happened to be dogs and deadly three-point shooters who happened to be highly athletic on the Brooklyn Nets. And y ou should hope that your team doesn't have to play the Nets in the first round. If the Nets can hold on and make the playoffs, keep in mind that they're already 8 or 9 games over 500, so all they have to do now is play 500 . Any team that has a bad night shooting will have trouble with this one. And the simple truth is that the best offensive talent in the NBA is on the Brooklyn Nets. Heck even Ben Simmons is still good defensively.

    Nobody In Phoenix ever thought bridges was an afterthought. He was considered the 2nd best player on the team after booker. He was never a rotation player he has always been a starter since being in the league with Phoenix. Get your facts strait before you talk about bridges. He was one of my favorite suns of all time. His defense has always been the best in the league and his offense has gotten better every single year thanks to playing alongside booker and learning from him. All this and he has never missed one single game in his whole career so far in the league. I personally did not like the trade for Durant for bridges and Johnson. I would have kept bridges instead he will be a future all star mark my words. You guys are lucky you got bridges and Johnson. Please take care of the twins they will be missed. This coming from a 44 year suns Fan.
