- Any supplement you take could interact with breast cancer treatments like Tamoxifen and chemotherapy
There is no supplement at the moment that can cure or stop your breast cancer coming back
It’s really important to do your own research to make sure that anything you’re taking is safe, regulated and won’t interfere with your treatment
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Common sense answered my question about collagen but you put the stamp on it. Thank you. 🙏🏻 You are in my prayers. Always.
Please advise how to keep our muscle, bones, skin and brain healthy if you are on Tamoxifen. This obviously blocks estrogen that helps with so many things in our bodies. Thank you. I love listening to you ❤
Great info. So many patients put their trust in supplements which may help, but they may also interfere with the cancer therapy you are taking.
Collagen made a super difference in my skin and made my fingernails lovely. When not taking it my nails are soft as paper and painful at the tips. Also it helped my psoriasis disappear. A big drawback is that it caused restless sleep and anxiety. That's bc collagen uses up tryptophan, which is necessary to create serotonin and is involved in making melatonin as well. If one takes tryptophan 4 hours after the collagen, then one doesn't get the anxiety or the restless wakeful nights.
Wow nice to hear that....kindly wich type of collagen did you take
Very good to know. I've wondered about these products because my skin has taken a beating with all the cancer drugs (and stress). As my mama would say "get your priorities in order" and I know this, but most of us women do care about our skin, our looks, especially going through treatments that have dragged us through the wringer. I know, I know ... priorities.
So helpful! Thankyou 😍
I feel so blessed to have seen this by chance. I had a breast cancer recurrence while taking Tamoxifen regularly, and no doctor ever mentioned the enzyme to me. It has prompted me to research this enzyme more, and I found out I was taking a weak CYP2D6 inhibitor. I'm going to look into getting tested for that enzymes activity in my body. Thank you.
You’re welcome x
Thank you!
You're welcome!
What do you think about soya? I have soya milk every day on my porridge, but now I’ve read that soya might increase estrogen, my BC was estrogen positive
How about creatine?
Hi dr Liz, this another great video thanks, I just like to know is fruits ok to eat, like grapes appels because they are sweet? and plant based food? Im not a huge meat eating person, some times eat fish. ❤
Yes, absolutely A healthy diet with lots of fruit and veg is completely fine
Thank you Dr Liz ❤❤❤
As much as I love your videos and am in awe of your service to breast cancer patients, I did find this video less than fully helpful. There must be SOME research or background info available on collagen? (You're encouraging people to do their own research but isn't your tag line usually "I do the research so you don't have to"?) Encouraging thought and care (especially about if something you've considering could interfere with the mechanism of action of the drug treatment you're relying on + you only mention tamoxifen here, are AIs similarly affected?) is absolutely needed and warranted, but there are also pharmaceutical drugs that can interfere with each other, so it isn't just supplements you need to take a close look at. And these supplement + diet-based questions are a source of continuing frustration. There are A LOT of us who have co-morbidities (digestive/GI disorders, even something as "simple" as a hiatal hernia/ulcer and/or being on an H2 blocker/PPI or that the drug treatment itself adversely effects our GI system) that impact our ability to eat or digest so many of the foods we're being told are part of a healthy diet. Supplements are something we might have to rely on for nutrition and therefore, we'd actually quite like to have some info on if they are or aren't safe at any phase of treatment, or how they might work/be metabolized. It's quite a tangle as a patient to find sources of reliable information on all these potential interactions--or maybe benefits in our individual situation--& so often, medical providers don't have time or resources to delve into it. (Or maybe there just isn't data available, because there's no money in it for the big companies or it's too difficult to design the gold standard studies that would produce acceptable data.) In addition, many of us don't have access to a nutritionist/dietician, either from location/lack of providers or insurance/affordability. (And many I have tried, when I did have access, were not versed in cancer-related issues or able to adapt to multiple issues effecting dietary needs. Another source of frustration.) I'd love to see videos on what the best sources of reliable info are that a patient can access, or how to assess the information you're looking at, when we want or need to go deeper than even the best CZcams source can offer.
Can collagen supplements cause lumps in breast or breast cancer ?
I keep seeing lots of collagen supplement ads.....some people (Influencers) push the idea that sugar/glucose is whst causes cancer/make cancer grows, but surely taking collagen as it naturally glycosylated is just as bad??
yes it is. And if you eat a healthy diet you don't need supplements
@DrLizORiordan disagree. Not everyone can digest nutrients the same. Not everyone knows what a good varied diet is, lots of people think that if an item is sold in stores then the government has okayed it and its part of a healthy diet. Years ago, I was involved in a Wellness project for Primary Health. In making up the Canada Food Guide posters, the whole team realized there was no way the average person could eat that much bread etc. Additionally, vitamin RDAs came from the minimum required to prevent disease. These amounts weren't the IDEAL, just the bare minimum. Also, there have been cases and groups that weren't properly nourished for one reason or another (think beri beri in the Southern states, rickets in industrial England, etc) that probably thought they WERE eating as best they could.
Is it ok to eat healthy and eat anti oxidant food ?
yes
I suffer from acid reflux and IBS so badly I take omeprazole I can’t take any supplements even the food I eat can’t digest it properly I don’t eat meat or fish it’s just too heavy I am frustrated
I’m so sorry, my heart goes out to you ❤️😞
You should take betain hcl to help your stomach making it more acidic in order to digest the food properly...what u do now is the other way around and will cause serious damage in the long run
Even worst ibs and so
How old are you? I’m sorry to hear that, but Ive been suffering the same condition for quite a while and have had ERCP twice…but now Im beginning to feel better…better in my digestive system. So after this long time suffering I find it “ blessing” to eat different types of foods again 😊
I had a hospital phamacist sit down and tell me not to take any supplements during my chemotherapy treatment, he said the whole aim is to kill cells, not support cell growth. Thank you
Your pharmacist is a legend
@@DrLizORiordan yes he is. He sat down and talked to every person in the chemo unit and answered everyone's questions 💖
Thats correct, but what sometimes happens sometimes the normal healthy cells get killed along with the cancerous cells. Thats the downside but a plus point at least the pharmacist said not to take supplements whilst on pharmaceutical chemo treatments. Folk think supplements as they're naturally derived have no interactions with other drugs or have np toxic effects but every substance known to man is toxic its just the des that differentiates what is a cure and what is a poison.
