When the Paraclete comes. Homily for the feast of Pentecost, Year B.

The Bible is the story of creation and re-creation. In the book of Genesis we read the story of God’s creation of the world, and of human wilfulness. The New Testament tells the story of God’s re-creation of a rebellious and alienated world. With the coming of the Spirit upon the disciples God’s re-creation of this rebellious and alienated world has begun. In the Johannine literature the Spirit is referred to as the Пαράκλητος (Paraklētos) in the Greek New Testament - a word that does not have an exact English equivalent.
