Ok, Monica, you can say that “The basketball of it all is so important,” and that CC should be left off Team USA. But then you cannot ever complain about how little money WNBA players earn. It’s either a business, or it’s not. For pure basketball, anyone can go to a playground and compete for free. If you want more money in the industry for the players, announcers, commentators, etc, then you need to grow the business. Leaving CC off the team is fine from a pure basketball perspective, and a terrible decision for anyone who wants to grow the business of women’s basketball.

As a fan of Caitlin Clark, people want to push her into the lion's den for "their" egos, not hers. No one cared about the wnba until this rookie class came into the league. THEY brought in their fan base. The league needs them more than they need the league. CC being a part of the Olympics would definitely help everyone get paid cause get what, bigger media coverage. Think the bigger picture. If you had CC, Reese and Brink on the Team, imagine how much ratings that would get. Not like they will play big minutes but the upside outweighs the downside. @nicktolentino8250 I agree. This rookie class has brought eyes to the WNBA. I love this class! As a fan of the NBA and WNBA, I have to say the WNBA has been much more pleasurable to watch. I'm just saying they are putting too much pressure on CC. She is starting to look lazy a bit or tired; get the turnovers down a bit and work on defense. Those international players aren't going to give her a break because she's America's face of the WMBA now. Team USA WNBA has been winning the gold frequently. What would happen if they suddenly put CC on the team and they lost? See what I'm saying? If they win, it's just another win, but if they fail with CC on the team, then what? I want CC to win. If she will do it, she can do it with or without being on the Olympic team. That's just my opinion, though. I'm still rockin' with the rookies.

When bird and magic came into league(35 yrs after it was formed), franchises were losing money, ratings and attendence werent good at all. Wnba got their Bird(Clark) and Magic(Reese) moment 28ish yrs after it started. And the league(lile every league) takes time to grow and for the product to be good. Its good, a lot of casuals didnt try to come to the league much earlier, cuz the talent pool(product) wasnt as deep and good overall. And they wouldve left and hard to get them back. As the game grows and more and more girls been playing the talent pool gets greater. Its perfect timing, cuz the talent of the youngns in college and HS is taking a huge leap at this moment.

I'm a CC fan with a pretty middle-ground opinion on the Team USA thing. I can see how it was wild for her to be left off the team, and I can see how it would have been terrible for everyone (including her) if she'd been put on it. Lose-lose, in a way. But the best angle I've heard is not the 'marketing' angle everyone is copy-pasting. It came from basketball legend Nancy Lieberman.
She said the merit angle is kinda fake when you look at all of the past teams and even the current team to a certain extent (🔎Arike?). The real angle, according to her, is 'keeping one eye to the future'. And I like that take. Nearly every basketball legend I have read or listened to has said that CC will go down in the books one day, given time. Plenty of WNBA players think so. She is seen as the future face of the W, the same way DT or Lisa Leslie was. Maybe even more so.
Lieberman says you send Caitlin to the Olympics not to help win right now, but because she needs to see what it's about. She needs to learn from the greats, understand what right looks like. When she goes back in 4 years, 8 years-once she's reached her final form-she'll have that experience to draw from. She'll be a much better teammate and future leader on the world stage. If you think CC is a future great who will definitely be a perennial all-star and a future Team USA selection, it's a solid argument. If you think it's all hype and she's trash, then this argument won't impress you either. But I like it.

By the numbers Caitlin Clark games get vs the numbers the others get, does that not factor into ‘merit’? The WNBA/Olympics are associations, they are not sports. They are associations made up of sport(s) but they are associations first. They are businesses first, second and then the sport is maybe a distant third.
In business, it’s how many eye-balls, how many purchases, how much revenue that matters in regards to ‘merit’. The simple truth is that Caitlin Clark by ‘merit’ is light years ahead of ANY other player in WNBA history and leaving her off the team is a mistake. But it’s not a deadly mistake. They will only lose out on millions of dollars and 4 years of possibly growing the game. But that’s ok.

We also need to stop assuming that Clark being on the US Women's Olympic Team would make a significant difference in marketing or revenue for the next few years. For a month, maybe. Then the Fever miss the playoffs, and we stop caring about the Olympics.
The women play international basketball between WNBA seasons, Clark will get the experience before 2028.

The difference between Taurasi in 2004 and Clark in 2024 is that Taurasi came from a college team system which was similar to the Olympic Team system. Clark is playing The Steph Curry Way, while the Olympic Team is playing pre-Curry basketball.

Like it or not..she's the Larry byrd of the wnba...she's gonna make the sport popular..should have put her on..us women wouldn't lose if you stuck 5 high-school girls as the last 5 players. Sports are marketing..without the money professional sports don't exist

Taurasi, Steward, Parker make the Olympic in their rookie season. Other women they earn it in there way to the Olympic. They bring USA 7 cold medals and famous. The question is why they complain about unfair pay. Because nobody watched them play. A lot of people find out on the sports new. But CClark she can change that put the eyeballs on the team bring the cold medal and bring a big paycheck for all of them. The world will watch the WNBA for sure. And they can thank CClark for that for

I'm sure the women's US Olympics teams winning ways hasn't been totally because of their dominance. I'm sure it's a combination of their team being good. And the rest of the country's being sub-par.

Carmelo, the USA Olympics team needs to play the best ladies from the WNBA and cc must be on the starting WNBA side.

They are thinking from an emotional standpoint instead of logical. We don’t wanna hear no more complaints about growing the game when you guys had an opportunity to do so and chose not to even though there’s no chance of losing gold either way it’s clear jealousy taking place

The annoying thing is that women keep complaining about viewership. If ya'll don't want to shine on Caitlyn thats fine, but then STOP complaining about viewership. We told you what we want to watch as viewers, if you don't want to give us what we want, thats fine, but stop crying about sexism when we don't watch.

Invest in your future. Having CC on the team does not have to be about marketing. It's about giving somebody you see as the future getting that experience. Learning from these vets makes her that much better. Everyone wants to go to marketing but we losing the bigger picture

An NBA Veteran in Diana Taurasi and A couple of other veterans in that situation would allow The younglings to take it to the next level. WNBA are being petty as hell. they should allow Cardozo, Caitlin Clark, and Andrew Reese to play instead of Brittney griner, Diana Turasi, and the player that's injured and hasn't seen any game this season

The part the women players keep forgetting is this is a business and they want to be paid like the men so why would a billionaire spend millions and not make billions back ???? That’s bad business and Clark brings in the new fans that will bring in that money so the other players can get more money when their contracts come up. After cutting your own bottom line then out that same mouth say you deserve the same kind of money the men get how does that make sense ?

McNutt is arrogant and stubborn. In this discussion there was no acknowledgement to CC's talent as a reason to be on the team just marketing. DT got the nod at 22 correct? There is precedent. It ain't like they are gonna lose a game, seriously lets get with the future of women's basketball and acknowledge the overwhelming noise. Let's break down the worthiness of a couple those who did make the team. Griner: few games played this season, anti-american, there is a lot of people who have no interest in this person representing their country. McNutt is a spokes person for the old school mentality that wants to keep a certain profile on this team and refuses to recognize reality. Imagine if Caitlyn played and she DOES have international experience, and actually did well?? OMG We would never be able to control her.

Imagine the global eyes that CC would bring to the wnba, it could help revenue growth and in turn will also help wnba veterans that has 4 years left for their careers. a lot could happen in 4 years, that is why i think this is the best time to take advantage of that.
