I wonder do you think the flippancy of the Ultra V's is a comment about how even the Killjoys weren't what the Killjoys are built up to be? The Killjoys would have just been a gang of youths. You have the Mythologized version of the Killjoys, a legacy that puts them on a pedestal with a narrative that they knew what they were doing and that they were incredibly prescient with their agenda. Then in the Ultra-V's you have an authentic remnant. These enthusiastic kids who were trying to do the right thing but who wouldn't take themselves seriously on a personal level.
I just don't buy that they'd write in these guys "for comic relief". It feels like an incomplete understanding.

You and I need to start a book club cause your insight are always so good! I definitely hadn’t thought about it that way but I’ll definitely have to keep that in mind when “National Anthem” comes out. I mean, I feel like, to an extent, the flippancy is also just always been the vibe for that type of punk-y artist. Like their music is all cool and dramatic but they are also just goofballs in every interview.
