But by mistake ILAYARAJA himself says the raga name as Lataangi instead of Sarasaangi. He further demonstrates how he takes Gandharam as shadjamam and develops the tune hiding the actual raagam. Lataangi is Pratimadhayama ragam, whereas Sarasaangi is suddha madhyama raagam. My son is learning keyboard and hence we could verify this on an instrument.

Agree with Sudharsan 100%. Whenever I visit Thiruvanaikkaaval temple or Sri Rangam temple, Tanjore and Gangaikondacholapuram temple etc and other magnificent temples, I'm always in awe. I wonder about the stone pillars with wonderful carvings on the top, did they carve them first and lift them up or vice versa, how long did they take for each, how many people worked in every pillar, how did they transport all those stones and from where etc etc. The people who constructed those impossible temples and the rulers of those era must be more than ordinary human beings. Ilayaraaja's work is exactly like that. The melodies that originated in his brain took form as beautiful songs that we all listen in awe and will leave us wondering how the heck did he bring all those instruments, the melody, the vocals together so beautifully.

If I'm travelling my playlist is only with Illaiyaraja songs ... only they have the ability to make me hear them multiple times ... everytime you hear you discover new things from the song. Few of Rahman songs are initially catchy, but you cannot hear it again and again...Rahman is talented, but the moment he leaves arabian music he will find success ... come back to Indian Classical Rahman...

Whenever I visit Thiruvanaikkaaval temple or Sri Rangam temple, Tanjore and Gangaikondacholapuram temple etc and other magnificent temples, I'm always in awe. I wonder about the stone pillars with wonderful carvings on the top, did they carve them first and lift them up or vice versa, how long did they take for each, how many people worked in every pillar, how did they transport all those stones and from where etc etc.
The people who constructed those impossible temples and the rulers of those era must be more than ordinary human beings.
Ilayaraaja's work is exactly like that. The melodies that originated in his brain took form as beautiful songs that we all listen in awe and will leave us wondering how the heck did he bring all those instruments, the melody, the vocals together so beautifully.

Enjoyed this video, got more information on maestro tunes. As you said, a true music seeker can only comprehend the real depth of his songs. For us, all his songs are soothing. If I'm travelling my playlist is only with Illaiyaraja songs ... only they have the ability to make me hear them multiple times ... everytime you hear you discover new things from the song. Few of Rahman songs are initially catchy, but you cannot hear it again and again...Rahman is talented, but the moment he leaves arabian music he will find success ... come back to Indian Classical Rahman...
