  • Presenter Alex Polizzi heads to inland Spain, enjoying the history, art and culture of Madrid. She sees cafes that specialize in only hot chocolate and churros, a late night favorite, and learns more about the complicated history of bullfighting, speaking to a matador about the history of the culture. She then visits the picturesque town whose windmills inspired some of the anecdotes in Don Quixote, meeting a former monk who built a huge cathedral by himself, and ending up in the beautiful old university town of Salamanca, a Unesco World Heritage site.

Sick of English speaking moralists who don't understand anything about bullfighting and come and judge this without having NO IDEA what it is. Even the word "bullfighting" is wrong because its not a fight.

@@fionagee8373 Didn't you read the above comment? The English terminology is misleading. It's NOT a fight or a sport where the notion of 'fair play' applies. It's a sacrificial ritual and the death of the bull is the entire POINT.
Plus all cattle we breed are eventually destined for meat. Prior to their day in the ring fighting bulls live like kings on free pasture for up to 6 years, while your average beef cattle are slaughtered at under 2 years old and more often than not spend that short life in miserable conditions. The bull in the arena is fired up on adrenaline and doesn't know what's coming until the very end, a task which the matador HAS to finish within a strict time limit. Compared to ordinary cattle which might wait for their turn at the abattoir for hours, knowing what awaits them. And the pressure of the production line means death is by no means always humane, it merely takes place where the public can't see it.

What was mentioned in the commandment of Imam Ali (the 4th ruler in Islam, and the Prophet Mohammed son-in-law), for those who collect alms (taxes) .. an elegant example of animals rights:
🌴 (( Do not horrify an animal nor frighten it.
Instruct your trustee (your employees ) not to separate calves from their mothers… not to deviate them from grasslands to the steeds of the roads, let them rest once in a while, and give enough time for (fresh water) and grazing)). 🌴

Bullfighting is an ancient tradition that dates back to the origins of Mediterranean civilizations. It is a miracle that they still exist, however I believe and wish that sooner rather than later they would end up disappearing, because although a bullfight has an undoubted artistic component, it is still an act of cruelty. I believe that the movements in Spain against bullfighting in Spain are a mistake, today it is a very minority spectacle and that this opposition movement only reinforces them, bullfighting will disappear because they are no longer profitable, they are heavily subsidized and yet less and less public

Then you don't know your own regional history. Catalonia was one of the places where bullfighting was most extensively practiced ;Barcelona alone had 3 of the most famous bullrings and that's not exactly long ago. The main reason for the ban was because the Catalan independence movement (which btw I support) wanted to be seen to reject something that is particularly perceived as 'Spanish'. It was political symbolism far more than any concern for the bulls.

Simple because people want to go and watch these modern day gladiators slay the beast's
And people want to see these events.

Mass shootings are one day yes and the other not. Police continues to brutalize people and Americans not only will never compensate the slave descendants of her robbed wealth (trough unpaid labour) But racism and hate to them are well and alive. What we can said about amerindians and Mexicans in USA 3/4 parts of the same. That inside USA. Outside Us continues to be the biggest empire still at the bussines of war and plunder and the military industrial complex is the real King of the country. What we can say about France and his colonial empire? What about his French Legion?. Well the FN (front national) from Le Pen will probably win the next elections. So they are exactly like Magats: uneducated bigoted people wanting to repeat the same errors of the past. What to say about the UK? Well they have perpetrated his Brexit and i think they are longing for the days of the Malvina's war.
