Even if we delineate the disorder, for example, met acidosis, if we WILL NOT GIVE importance to Base Excess then it will harder for us to calculate the dose of BiCarb to be given!! Though we hv a formula for BiCarb dose, but Doctor is that a standardized formula?
Actually , first thing , u never have to correct the pH or Hco3 deficit with sodabicarb as it has its own side effect . Secondly , base deficit don’t give you the reason for disorder . Like for example in DKA u can have lots of base excess but u don’t have to give so much bicarb … so u have to look for the cause rather than base deficit .
