all Whitesnake is good Whitesnake. i like their bluesy music too, but i'll never understand the elitism of the "classic" era fans.

They had such a raw sound in those days, and what an incredible song, so many people have never had the pleasure of hearing the song

I always thought Bernie was a perfect guitarist for Coverdale mainly because his voice blends so well on the harmonies but also because his solos are so melodic.

While I get why Coverdale would want to keep trying new things this was a lineup and set of songs (Live in the Heart of the City era) that define classic Whitesnake (for me). Superb, sublime, soulful stuff. Coverdale at his vocal best around this time. What a voice, great lineup and wondeful songs. Thanks for finding and uploading the clip.

when discussing live albums, they bang on about UFO and the who but, for me, live in the heart of the city is miles better. great singer and not a duff track on it.

This is by far the best Whitesnake. This is a band!
The shared vocals are so beautiful... Davids voice works best when there is someone like Bernie (or Glenn Hughes) to back it up.
Love this lineup like no other.
Okay, later on there were some astonishing guitarists involved, but this is simply stunning.

Both Jon Lord and Ian Paice (from Deep Purple) were bandmates of David C.... and they joined him to record this in the studio and tour. This album/song has been in my collection over 40 years... (damn, has it been that long?)

Best lineup, best songs, Coverdale vixls at an all time high. Plus, you have Jon Lord and Ian Paice, both were never bettered and Neil Murray's bass work is just sublime. Paicey's groove is just fantastic, whereas Tommy Aldridge is mainly all power, no finesse, no light and shade., he murders 'Ain' t No Love In The Heart of The City' and the Deep Purple songs Whitisnake have covered.

This is the DC that I grew up with in the 70's and 80's, was really disappointed to see him live in 04, a note for bzaluh the music scene in the UK was very different to the states in the 70's and 80's, Whitesnake were British.

Well, it's not "they", it's "he"... David Coverdale fired all the 1987 players and hired a group of vedettes to do the tour. Of course he sold out. If you read a little about the history of the band you'll see how desperate for success he was. He was craving for success in the US. Just watch the ridiculous transformation, and all the things he had to do in order to appear on the infamous MTV.
