    Between 1985 and 1995 a reconstruction of the Batavia you were talking about was built in Lelystad, The Netherlands. I worked at the shipyard as a volunteer. Learned wooden shipbuilding like no other. Had a great time! The Batavia reconstruction visited Australia during the year 2000 Olympics.
    Started watching your videos maybe a year ago and then "forgot" to take a look back at your first.

    Also, So amazed as to how calm and collected they act when the sh.t hits the fan affecting the boat way out to sea. Their knowledge and dexterity leaves me in awe, and clearly brings to mind how I’ve wasted decades and decades sitting at a desk looking at the clock. Awesome couple in so many levels, and learning what they know would take me three life times. Some of us have to do the sitting, I suppose.

    Years ago I saw a documentary on sailing. A guy had acquired a boat. Pretty large. 3 masts maybe? Recruited a crew and was sailing around Australia. He had this white bull terrier who was the unofficial captain of the ship. They were in the woods somewhere, a hog comes flying out of nowhere, rips the guys leg open. It was going in for the kill. There was a white flash. The terrier had that hog by the ear and just tossed him aside. Then stood guard over the fallen man. Saved his life. Coolest thing I have ever seen. A lot of what you guys show reminds me of that documentary. Anyway love the series. I think it is great that you go into such depth of exploring Australia. So much cool stuff. Love the underwater and the scenery. Also the fishing the philosophy the cooking. All good.
    Try canning fish. My mother used to do it. It is delicious. Will last for years.

    Beautiful shot video. Stunning. Not sure if you’ve heard of this method, but an easy way to dispatch fish you catch, is to have some cheap alcohol in a small squeezy type bottle, and just spray some on their gills. It kills them almost instantly and no mess. Fair winds.

    Your seal friend is a seal but not a true seal, it's an eared seal. That one is an Australian sea lion, found only in the Abrolhos and The Pages, and unfortunately it's endangered. I've watched people spend an entire ferry trip arguing over whether they'd seen a seal or a sea lion. Funny that they were technically both correct. Great channel! Fair winds, following seas, clear skies, abundant home brew, etc, etc...

      Welcome Patrick. We try to deliver an episode per week (next month will be hard) but there's a lot here to get into. Hope you enjoy the lot and don't worry- production gets better as we learn along the way.

    I am watching you and starting from 1st episode, one question, how much experience did you have on sailing then???

    Hey Troy, I wondered about your water usage as full time liveaboards and travelling to remote areas.
    What sort of watermaker did you go for? Do you have a main tank or store in smaller containers? Love these videos.

    Only issue I have is that those are sea lions. Not seals.

    Beautiful dreamy feel to this vid like the others, informative too. Oh Pascal (how do you spell your name?) the mutineers were hanged not hung.

      It's spelled Pascale and whoops- good catch. Even dutch mutineers deserve to be hanged by the Queen's English

    Hi Troy. Just started out journey and hope to get to the Kimberleys. You may have said already but are you using wire trace for the Tuna? Size lead? Line size? Thanks Dave n Tina s/v Squealer Davina

    • @FreeRangeLiving
      @FreeRangeLiving  Před 6 lety

      No trace needed for tuna but we run 74lb Monel wire in case of Mackerel. 40lb mono will increase catches if toothy critters are no worry.

    Seals don't mind swimming with people actually it's one of the few times they can relax. They just keep you between them and the White's they know they can out fin you. You do know seals the main food source for white sharks don't you? Bikini clad Sheila's being the second...

      There were a few fat Tigers swimming around that patch but they're pretty pleasant characters for the most part. We're in the tropics now so White Sharks have been replaced by crocs but we never quite get to the top of our food chain...
