    So I am Palestinian Christian. My dad is from Nazareth my mom is from Bethlehem. We are straight descendents from the early Christians. Of course my ancestors didn't speak Arabic, they spoke Aramaic. But by now we identify as Palestinian and Arabic (because obviously that's my mother tongue at home). It completely messes with my head how some Western Christians dismiss our existence...

      it is insane to me how little people know about their own religion, i'm muslim and know more(more as in literally just the basics actually) about Jesus than those Americans/christians that i have to explain their own religion? and it baffles their mind. Like wooahh wait so arabs can be christian toooo?? or immediately think the person muct be a convert if they see someone who looks middle eastern wearing a cross...like dude its not like Jesus was born on a farm in ireland, was he?...how do you not know that he was born in the middle east, that surely, the place where he originated from must have people that are also Christian. The media successfully managed to whitewash Jesus too. Just wondering, if they knew, if people knew, would they maybe cared more for palestine?...if they knew that the place where Jesus was born, that the descendants who live there or the churches which are hundreds of years old, arent safe either, that it isnt about religion but ethnicity, was being bombarded everyday, just for more real estate for others who seem to have lost empathy for others.......such a weird time we live in

    If you meet a Palestinian here, a lot of them either lived through the nakba or hear stories from their family. Palestinians are not allow to return to Palestine. Some could get visitor visa but a lot gets declined not like us who can easily get visas to visit back our home country. You’re right, the main question a lot of people don’t ask is why?

    I completely understand why you haven't really talked about this as it is such a touchy subject that involves, race, religion, and politics, and you cannot afford to discuss it without knowing the integrated details. No one can defend the killing that is happening, but what we see is what the media shows us, and it usually pushes a certain narrative.

    Random fact about Palestine: in 2017 amnesty reported it was illegal for Palestinians to collect rainwater. This is the level of oppression over there.
    When you talk about trying to understand what creates hamas, usually its decades of oppression.
    I'm glad you spoke about trying to understand. It doesn't justify but it's important to understand why

    The numbers chico, they never lie. Looking at the casualties of this conflict on both sides it is hard to have a neutral stance on this. The history may be complicated for some who weren't interested in what was happening in the world the last 100 years but the numbers are very simple. Speak true or don't speak at all. Being neutral is being uninformed.

  • @minnaamin8507
    @minnaamin8507 Před 6 měsíci +26

    Only posting “Ceasefire” without any direct action that follows does have a purpose, actually. It shows solidarity, an added voice to the collective - which is important now. It adds pressure to the people who can do something to stop this. People like you and I might only have the internet to post on, but that would still serve its purpose. It shows that we are all eyes watching. Additionally, people are asking celebs and influencers to post so that they can use their audiences, it’s about the message spreading. Getting as many eyes on the genocide that’s happening as possible, showing the people who are doing this that hey you are exposed, applying pressure to the decision makers to actually change something. When we all just throw our hands up and say, too complicated, and i cant do much, we play right into their hands and become complicit. Its just about being on the right side of history, being part of the people who stopped another holocaust from happening.

    Simple answer. It's not complicated, the history is easy to read, and the reason why influences should speak about it is so that maybe it STOPS HAPPENING!!!! maybe if those who can 'influence' talk about it, maybe there will be some change. maybe its important. and to say is complicated is really just avoiding the reality that many fail to accept. I condemn isis, i condemn al qaida, i condom the taliban, i condemn boko haram, AS A MUSLIM. god forbid the western world condoms israel let alone removes their funding. So yes, influencers should talk about it because they have influence. It can make a difference.

    Great watch as always! 🙏🏿💜
    I think as with anything influencers are allowed to talk as much as they want and as much as any regular person. The only thing that ends up getting them heat is when they speak on matters they dont understand or arent educated about and misinform their audiences.
    It always goes back to that famous joke about asking Ja Rule about something. Purely coz Ja Rule is a celeb/musician it shouldn't somehow make his opinions necessary.
    And i feel like some influencers dont know when to jjst sit things out. Its this social media age where everyone wants to have a say. When in reality its okay to say i don't know or i dont understand and keep it moving. Not everything needs input. Not everything needs a polarising stance.
    And sadly again coz of social media a lot of people end up looking to these influencers and celebs and athletes and musicians and actors for guidance rather than looking to people in those various fields or professions.
    And on a side note its what i also enjoy about your pod because you will speak on matters that you know and things that you don't know you give your opinion but you wont pretend to make that opinion some sort of definitive be all and end all and you encourage everyone to go out and do their own research and not just read headlines etc
    Keep up the great work and apologies for the long winded ramble. I always just be getting annoyed with societies influencer worship 😂 its like we cant compartmentalize things.

    I hold the opinion that influencers and celebrities should talk about the very big events if they have knowledge, and in a truthful manner. I believe that influencers and celebrities who bring awareness to these events can help in bringing positive change. I especially believe that their voices can be important when there are an equal or greater number of influencers and celebrities that are trying to promote policies and changes that will lead to more war and destruction. A positive example I can give would be Angelina Jolie. She released statements talking about her views on the events from her experience as a humanitarian worker.
    I also applaud you for not saying anything about this when you had little to no knowledge. It was the responsible thing to do.
    I think there may have been misunderstandings when you talked about people attacking you for saying its complicated. If I heard correctly, I think you meant to say that the conflict has had a long history, therefore there is a lot to be analyzed. But what I think those people heard was that they thought you were not sure that the bombing of innocent people is justified. Which I think it is not. And I'm pretty sure you also share my opinion in that if I listened to this episode correctly. I say that because from what I have observed, is that a lot of fence sitters to pull the "its complicated" card when confronted if the bombing of innocent people is justified. So there are a quite a few people that actually sit on the fence, maybe even thinking there is a possibility that innocent people being bombed en masse is justified. Which it is not.

    love the approach of this podcast on addressing the issues going on on that side of the world without taking sides. bc for me as well who wants to understand the issues going on, but I too feel the same of just being stuck on what to think due to how complicated the history is and how far it goes back. i tried watching videos and reading about it but it was just too big for me to understand and Ive been feeling pretty ignorant and selfish for not really trying to understand. And then i'd see friends and influencers post about what "side" they're taking and all of that has just been making me feel uneasy. But after hearing this, I feel better knowing that its okay to feel overwhelmed bc it is a complicated topic. So thank you for sharing this perspective! Love when you and ed make us think a bit (ALSO loved the tie in to Attack on Titan cause thats all I've been thinking about when I see news or posts about the issue LOL )

    Speaking out on the internet, while it may seem redundant and to no effect, does change the general view of the public on a subject which eventually effects what policies are made, who people vote for, and what businesses are supported. If we all never spoke out against and made people aware of genocides and other atrocities occuring worldwide, the goal of preventing them from occuring or at least of America not playing a role in supporting/causing them would appear less important when the public makes everyday decisions. I understand your feelings of, realistically what does this even do, and I think it's not unreasonable to say at a minimum it gives solidarity to the cause which makes those effected feel heard and supported which will help them continue their fight for justice even if we don't. The history may be complicated, but whats happening right now is a genocide and as Americans we are unfortunately supporting this war and many others. That needs to change

    The reason the US government supports Israel is because they are both settler-colonial states. What the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians is the same thing the US did to the Native Americans. Just like Israel thinks god gave them that land here in the US we used manifest destiny to say god wants us to have the whole continent. Personally, I support the Palestinian side of the conflict. The Palestinians are being oppressed in an apartheid state and they have the right to resist occupation. To support the Israeli side you are supporting the genocide of the Palestinian people. Regarding the celebrity piece, you can say something or not, but not picking a side is not being neutral. The US government is financially backing a genocide and saying nothing makes us the people complicit.

    😂 The weed may be taxed, but it's still a whole lot cheaper than the weed in chicago. Well granted, this may depend on where you go. I would imagine it always depends on which dispensary you go cuz some might have better deals.
    But the whole state of California in general just has cheaper weeds and what we have in Chicago or all of illinois. But that's probably because they can actually grow it in the state in the climate. Which would just make weed a whole lot cheaper than having to import it.
    Edit: hey david, as a pothead for a long time I will say that we can help with lack of sleep. But if you really want to put yourself to sleep like her on a cloud, I recommend CBN gummies.
    It doesn't really get you high but it'll mellow the fuck out of your body literally making you feel like you're on a cloud.
    If my memory is correct from my research on CBN it's just oxidized THC to where it loses its psychological effects. It doesn't really get you high when you take it as cbn, but still keeps the body relaxing effects. Now I have smoked weed plenty of times and all different types of strains. But when I took CBN gummies for the first time, that was some of the best sleep I've ever had in long time.
    The specific brand that I tried was known as hemp living CBD plus CBN gummies. Unfortunately, I haven't experimented with other brands of gummies so I can recommend anything outside of what I know. But the great thing about CBN plus CBD gummies is you don't even have to get them out of dispensary. You can just get them at a smoke shop or even a gas station that sells cigarettes or alcohol. If they have tobacco behind the counter then they will probably start having hemp or CBD products behind the counter.
    In my city a lot of local gas stations and convenience stores that do sell tobacco or alcohol or starting to sell CBD and CBN products. The ones in your area might as well. So you don't even know it needs to go all the way to the dispensary. Just go to the local gas station. But of course, a dispensary is always going to have a bigger variety. But of course, a dispensary is always going to have a bigger variety. Well, smoke shops will sometimes too but not as much as a dispensary since he also sell other stuff not as related to thc, but also nicotine products. So not being dedicated to cannabis they're not going to have as big as a variety. But anything you can get at a dispensary now you can probably get out of smoke shop and in some cases the gas station. Except weed itself. You're not going to find weed at anything but a dispensary anytime soon. You will find places that will sell little canisters of hemp, but it's not weed. You're not really going to get high off of it cuz it's mostly bought for the cbd.
    And before anybody says it technically yes it's weird but breathe it's only have CBD which again we would just refer to as hemp. It still cannabis, but technically it's not weed. Thanks to Los starting to loosen up more on hemp products, more people who can benefit more so from CBD and can't really handle to THC can have a variety of products to try and don't need to even go to a dispensary. Even if the recreational use of marijuana will never be fully federally legalized, the medical use for it as well as CBD needs to be fully federally legalized because so many people can benefit from it.
    A/edit: your body not being fond of sativa maybe because it's a stimulant or an upper. It's going to stimulate your brain and probably make it more activated. So I guess it's probably kicking in your nightmares or your subconscious for whatever reason when you sleep. That's just a guess I can't really say for sure. Where is Endicott is typically going to be more of a downer and relaxing, and the hybrids depending on which one you take will have a balance of each effect. If you want something that's less of a stimulant that you definitely want them in a hybrid if you get hybrids. And seeing as you do have buddies that smoke a lot and are very familiar with cannabis, definitely listen to what they have to recommend. Obviously not everything is going to work for you cuz everybody's body is different. But for anybody who wants to try a recreational substance I always recommend talking to the people who are familiar with said substance. They'll help guide you through it.
    21 underage reading list thinking about trying it, I would say don't until you're an adult. But if you're going to do it anyways at least be surrounded by buddies who care for you and are not too busy worried about getting caught and will leave you there to just wallow in your bad trip. Is it goes for any substance. Not just cannabis.
    Oh, if you don't want to do it then don't. That's it and that's all. Most cannabis users don't require you to smoke to hang out with them we don't give a fuck about that. We just want a regular friendship like anybody else. So if a specific group won't hang out with you because you don't take a specific substance, then fuck them. They ain't your friends.

    purchase high quality weed and a nice grinder and get yourself a small bong. smoke a tiny little bowl 1-2 hours before your bed time. trust. it's so much better for you vs vape carts as well as cleaner than all the combustion you inhale via joints. and for someone who smokes so little, an 8th of top shelf ($50-60 a pop) should easily last you 3-4 weeks.

      Yeah - the ingredient in vape carts dry out your mouth which contributes to tooth decay - if you really only use before bed, then edibles are the best.

    My first reaction to the title is an immediate no because imo, lots of fans are also too reactionary and misconstrue what someone is trying to say. Idk I feel like people who are not in the political sphere and are not very knowledgeable about politics and global conflict should think twice about commenting on stuff like that for their OWN benefit because they will get hate *no matter what* and people are crazy
    Not to mention, the Israel Palestine conflict is so polarizing. Idk if there are any other H3 fans here but the debates Ethan had with fans was so frustrating to me on both sides because to me, it seemed like Ethan would misunderstand/misinterpret what other people would say and then fans would misunderstand/misinterpret what Ethan would say in response, and then the responses would go back and forth but the original dialogue has been misinterpreted so then the entire conversation is already completely fucked because neither party understands what the other is saying but everyone thinks that everyone else understands what they are saying. I feel like I just had a stroke typing this out btw because I’m trying to explain something that doesn’t make sense lol

      Quick question, do you believe that Israel is a secular state, or a theocratic one? Because I think that Israel is a secular state, that touts itself as a theocratic Jewish state. So because they present themselves as Jewish, many feel (or use this as an excuse) that their mass murder of innocent Palestinians is a reflection of Jewish ideals. Thus leading many to believe that Jewish people are glad that Palestinians are getting fucked up. Which isn't true btw, I have seen Jewish people protesting against the mistreatment of Palestinians for awhile. I'm not saying that the treatment you received is right, but I'm just giving a possible reason why people behave that way towards you.

    Congrats on starting the deconstruction process. I became a much better person after leaving. One of the reasons religion bad for critical thinking and mental health is because it forces you to accept things that you wouldn't normally be ok with. It creates this sort of subconscious "cognitive dissonance" in your head. I also started by just asking questions, like, "Why would God WANT to be worshipped?" That sounds like something that insecure human would want. It doesn't sound like a perfect supernatural entity to me. And that's of course because humans created the myth of God.
    Looking forward to following your journey. Please keep us updated!

    A lot of people want to fight for something - few know how to lead. If these people truly want to be effective, wouldn’t it make more sense to contact political commentators + politicians instead of influencers?
    I think people also need to understand that not everyone is going to prioritize what you prioritize, and even if they want to get involved, they may not do it the same way as YOU.
    There are atrocious things happening in the world EVERY SINGLE DAY. Children being trafficked, wars, no clean water, oil spills, people dying, abuse, etc. What if I threw back in your face an issue that was personally important to me? “Well why aren’t you posting about THIS????”

    • @gigalulmansur
      @gigalulmansur Před 6 měsíci

      I'd say people are already contacting everyone for support and for them to speak out from their friends, to politicians, to yes, celebrities. The current genocide is a great cause to rally behind regardless of your priorities. At least as an American, as America has perpetuated and supported these wars for decades and this needs to change at a fundamental level. Good thing is, it largely has changed as the public distaste for war has grown and the public awareness of our involvement in all these wars have grown. So we need to continue that trajectory. If you threw back an issue that was personally important to you to me I would listen, ask to know more, and yes maybe I should be posting more about this issue thank you for making me aware of it. Why would I get defensive and say f your problems focus on this one only? We can collectively support all of them. Like you said, many atrocities are occuring all the time everywhere. As an American we can at least focus on the ones we're directly supporting or causing 👍

    Influencers shouldn't bank on this situation. They should absolutely be able to talk about it but it feels morally wrong to bank on it. It is 100% with certainty a both sides type of situation. If you look at the history of the region you will know it's hard to say who has claim to what. Technically both jews and palestinians have claim to the land. Technically jews were there first but were kicked out due to arab/european persecution thousands of years ago, but within that time, palestinians inhabit the land so it's not like there's no argument to be had there. I gotta say though, Bassam Youssef said it best, I've never seen a group of people hated so much throughout history and constantly being displaced.

    • @voice2voiceless
      @voice2voiceless Před 6 měsíci +3

      WTF are you talking about? "Jews were there first." You do realize Judaism is a religion, right? That region had multiple Semetic tribes, living there AT THE SAME TIME. Some tribes believed in multiple Gods, some prayed to the elements or the sun and moon, and then Judaism came in. Those tribes were always there and everyone who is in that region today, including the Arabs are descendents of these tribes. So no one "came first". They're all "cousins", even though they hate to admit it 😅
