    It's a shame they are getting rid of lightweight events, they are always some of the most entertaining with extremely close finishes all the time

      Indeed they are. Lightweight is quite strategic and very technique intensive. The heavyweights are basically ogres pulling sticks.

      @@dario8982 The Olympic poltiik retards decided that lightweight crews don't have a future in Olympic rowing and they are wanting to reduce the number of events. Lightweight 4 isn't going to be at the 2020 Olympics.

      Yip. Complete balls up. For the 2012 Olympics the television people's union in the UK insisted that only BBC employees commentate on sports events for the Olympics. So the guy that was commentating on rowing didn't really have a clue what was going on. Hence why you also didn't hear any relevant technical analysis or terminology from him.

      He was awful the whole week. Talking about weight limits during the heavyweight fours, incapable of getting Slovenia/Slovakia right, but this one was the cherry on the top. I think I've heard him doing football commentary since?

    RSA absolutely under stroked the other three boats in the last 250. Great use of the straws. Just goes to show the value of a full length stroke over a shorter faster stroke.

    At one stage the comentator made a bit of mistake. When South Africa came into 1st place near the end he said Australia. Their kits look very similar so i guess he got a bit "Deurmekaar", that means confused in South Africa.lol Im South African, they made me proud!

    Great race, but somewhat clueless commentary, confusing Australia for South Africa: "Australia are taking over in lane 5! It's the green and gold who are going for gold!" Actually, Australia were in lane 6. Finished 4th, outside the medals.

    Nothing more heartbreaking for Australia. Anthony Edwards actually was in the boat in the Sydney lightweight 4s and got a silver medal, miss out on gold by about a foot.

      The colours green and gold were adopted in 1984 by Australia and in 1994 by South Africa so Australia actually had them first.

      Actually, Australia and South Africa both had green and gold, but on a rugby tour to Australia it was agreed that Australia would use cold with green and South Africa green with gold. It stuck.

    No they didn't… RSA and DEN stoked the same same… GBR was 1 pip high from 1750. RSA and DEN both rowed 36 strokes in the the 250 mts. GBR rowed 37. Only makes sense that if you row longer, with the same rate you go further them the competition. It's science.

      They have won this event 3 of 5 olympic games and gotten 3rd the other two times. When no team has a huge advantage when it comes to power in this field it comes down to technique.
