    Dude, thank you so much for showing a video handling all these different varieties of X-Pac materials. I'm very autistic and need to be able to know what fabrics sound like, and just in natural movement you've given off more "realistic" use-case sounds than any sound comparison I was able to find online. I almost just dropped $150 on a bag that would have driven me insane by crinkly noises.

  • @jacksonschroederproductions

    Thanks for this vid! Here's my notes comparing some different types of pack fabrics:
    - Robic: reinforced nylon, weather resistant.
    - X-pac: x shapes. Laminated layers. Highly weather resistant. More denier=more weight=more weather resistance
    - VX21: 210 denier nylon face, lighter, less tough than X50
    - V50: 500 denier nylon face, lighter, less tough than X50, glossy finish.
    - X50: 500 denier Cordura nylon face, Matte finish 315 gsm. Warp: 171.3 N
    - Ultra: lighter, weaker, more expensive than x pac. A blend of UHMWPE (#1 plastic) and high-tenacity polyester 186 gsm. Warp 101.24 N
    - UHMWPE: Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. Really strong #1 plastic, some thing disposable water bottles are made of.

    Suggestion for those who have a hard time deciding: Get a couple of Able Carry Stash Pouches as samples. They are cheap, useful, come in VX21/42 and X50/51, and don't have any lining, so you can see the back side of the material.

    I believe the reason why the X51 is slightly floppier than the X50 is because it's 1000 by 500 denier (one horizontally, other vertically) which creates some diagonal stretch. Whereas the X50 at 500 denier is more stable no matter how you stretch it. I watched Remote Equipment's video about X50 and X51 and that's the impression I got.

    Video really helps my understanding! 1 question, hows the color fastness in vx42? Will the black fade after a while?

  • @MarcShiman
    @MarcShiman Před 2 lety +2

    So the difference between VX (as in VX21) and X (as in X50) is the 3rd layer (or 4th layer depending on what you call the X grid), - you have the face material (21 = 210d), the X grid, a film, and then the VX has a polyester tafeta backing while the X doesn't. Some bags with X50 that is unlined have a very shiny back side with the X pattern.

    I haven't seen a TBB Conceal in Orange before for the life of me. Great collection!
    I have also owned bags and other EDC accessories in different types of X-Pac, I'd have to say that it's my favorite material on a bag so far because some of it just stands out and it doesn't attract too much dust just on a daily use. Great insight!
    P.S. Recently just scored a TBB Conceal with the neon colors on the inside! Can't wait for it to arrive at my doorstep. Gotta say it's been a while since I felt like a kid on Christmas.

    • @jtinseoul7041
      @jtinseoul7041 Před 2 lety +1

      Have to be careful about the "doesn't attract dust" part because that really depends on the type of Xpac. X50/51 definitely attracts dust and hair just as much as Cordura (since that's what the face is made out of). And that Conceal, I completely understand. The one in this video is an absolutely prized possession. 1 of 2 :)

    When it comes to the krinckle factor how do the VX21 and 42 differ? I'm looking at the Able Carry 13 options bewteen VX21 and X42. I'm familiar with the VX42 Aer uses, and I dig it. Wondering how the 42 without the tafetta backing changes it's feel. Also, in your video, the VX21 seemed like it had a louder krinckle than the VX42. What are your thoughts?

    • @jtinseoul7041
      @jtinseoul7041 Před 2 lety +1

      I tend to think the Cobra is more versatile generally speaking. The Phoenix is pretty tight for anything but daily carry. Also, the cobra doesn't force me to work out of the left side of the bag all the time. I do like both though. I think for the right person the Phoenix would be the better option.

I was recently going to pull the trigger on a GR2 34L for one bag travel but I saw a review of the YNOT magnetica and I loved the look in multicam black. It also looks like it would be a great edc bag once you get to your destination. Be careful, 1680D ballistic nylon isn’t better than smaller numbered nylons because of the way it’s made
    1050D for instance is far more durable since it’s 2x2
