My dad is from France and my mom is a Filipina from Sampaloc. Manila me and my 3 siblings my oldest brother and my older sister both of us shock when we move to the Philippines we grow up in france. But when we move to The Philippines what i notice for filipino people are they are so resilient , and respectful and caring this is why we moved in my mom home country its just wonderful to hear that we as Filipinos are loved for people who have been lived here. This is something that we should proud of🖤🩶 love you all!♥️

That's why you get baited easily. You don't have to worry about what other people think. I'm also a Filipino, and I always see foreigners as our equal. They are not above us/better than us. We're just the same. Stop with your inferiority complex or trying to find validation from them. The problem with Filipinos is they always see foreigners, especially the foreign men, as their savior, someone that can lift a family from poverty. Can we just stop with that mindset and stop belittling ourselves. That's why some of these foreigners don't have close friends here because Filipinos have this colonial mentality or hero complex when it comes to foreigners. They're just the same as us. Geez. Don't put them on a pedestal. It would be easier for them to have friends if we treat them no differently.
Filipino attitude is shy. We don't open conversations but when you open up conversations we are down to earth people.
Filipinos are sometimes shy but if you're willing to open yourself up to deeper connections, it's not really that hard to fund a real friend here in the Philippines.

As long you speak Tagalog well (outside Manila). and don't talk like if you know personally any filippino.
This has to be one of my favorite street interviews of foreigners in the Philippines. Great questions and editing, really allowing them to express their thoughts and no "clickbaity" moments
i like how the girl in red dress explains her insights. I believe that as a filipino, when a foreigner learns what we also used to do, we kinda look at them as equals to us. The culture of Filipinos about hospitality influences how we see foreigners.
“Don't mistake my kindness for weakness, I'm kind to everyone, but when someone is unkind to me,weak is not what you are going to remember about me.” We Filipinos don't see foreigners higher than us. We are just respectful.

that's definitely your POV. Your reality is not the reality of many Filipinos. the reason why these foreign influencers visiting the PH are getting more views, music reactors getting more views when reacting to Morisette and many Filipino content is definitely that. Go through these videos' comment sections and the Filipinos seeking validation from foreigners is evident and then come back here and tell me that Filipinos don't think highly of foreigners.
Pro tip for living with Filipinos. No filipinos will ever force it require anyone but speaking Tagalog will take you to a different level as now they will see you as actually a Filipino. Very low requirement but speaking the language fluently will let you fly under the radar. Very good vlog by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Speaking the language fluently is not a very low requirement though. That takes years and years. I think if someone knows a bunch of phrases that are used in everyday situations, slang, and even funny words/jokes and the right situations to use them to make a Filipino laugh, that goes a long way already.

Great topic to talk about. From my perspective as a Filipino, I'm introvert but with this kind of community, you can never get lonely here. Sometimes my mother would advise me again and again to mingle with other people because its a cool positive thing, to build connections, friends. We relate to each other in terms of hardships, common things etc.
And btw, did you know that this country is the lowest rate of suicide in Asia? its only 2%. It's because we've been resilient for a very long time and just trying to survive in our life everyday but we still smile and be positive about it even times in Typhoon. We often say "Bagyo lang yan, Pinoy kami!" Which translates "It's just typhoon, we're Filipinos!".

I would have loved your comment but the comment on the suicide rate almost sounds like you are craving for validation. I don't know why do Filipinos do this. And btw, I'm also a Filipino.
As a Filipina American, it is almost like feeling displaced. I would relate more to the foreigners in the video, but still hold some of the cultural aspects. I wish all the participants of this video be safe, have success in their island life, be able to find and create long lasting friendships. I hope they don't give up and give the Philippines a chance. They are living my dream.
Speaking of friendships happening ‘organically’ without trying or putting in effort, I haven’t made a single friend organically living in Japan for almost 13 years. I happen to be a very friendly, outgoing, laid-back, open-minded Canadian. I understand that trying to make friends can come across as being ‘needy’, so I’ve never really gone out of my way to really initiate friendships. I often approach people to introduce myself and chat for a short while, which I figure should be enough to initiate a friendship, but it has never happened. From my experience everyone often seems to already have their regular friends established and seem to not have any desire to increase their friends. Just my experience.
Sometimes, its not all just because your living in another country. Ive noticed that as I mature, I like to keep a small circle of friends unlike before. You become less social, crave for more alone time, or be with family especially when your parents are getting older. I think it comes with maturity too.
But I also heard of Filipinos migrating to other countries, the first thing they do to get settled is find a Filipino friend to manage homesickness. So I guess, its the same with these guys.
As an American I can confirm it's the same. As much as I like Filipinos, I will never be able to relate with them and they will never be able to relate with me and that's okay. That's what makes our cultures beautiful. The differences....
@@SpiritShinobi agree however as a foreigner living in another country, it is important to make the effort to interact with the locals in your community. EFFORT is necessary. Aside from building camaraderie, tt can also be beneficial to you especially in case of emergency where you will be needing help, or you want valuable info that only the locals know. It will make life easier --and happier.
All you need to do is NEVER compare yourself with others. Regardless if you have bigger goals or not. If you continue doing that you will always be isolated. Just live and enjoy each moment. Having few friends even if they are far away is better than having none. Life is short so remove the self-centered attitude. Otherwise, you will always be lonely no matter where you live

Yes i agree, all i can say is that , dont find yourself to the other , we are not thesame, all you have to do is to understand, and no hatred.
You can encounter Filipino around the world and one of the character they posses is to easily adapt to the environment wherever that be. They are friendly people. Likewise the feeling of longing to the place, home, friends,where you spent half of your life is what we feel also. "No place like home" as they said.
It's not that Filipinos adapt easily, it's because Filipinos like to think that any place else other than their country is better so they have to make it work. Let's stop with this resilience thing. It's a lie.

I think if you are an expat in the Philippines and you didn't build any friendship in a month - that's on you. Filipinos are generally welcoming; however, you need to show them you are genuinely interested in making friendships too. You have to open up yourself to deeper conversations - which most Americans and Europeans are not very comfortable in the first meeting. If you show them that you are a friend, you will be treated as a friend.
Agree. In reality, people choose who they wanna be friends with. As a Filipino, I wouldn’t mind being friends with these foreigners but it’s really up to them. 🤷🏽♂️

This vlog is exemplary. Me being a Filipino is curious what expats think about us. Thank you for this vlog. Btw, we may feel distant to foreigners but rest assured we are very friendly. Filipinos tend to be shy.

That’s correct. Filipinos are welcoming, friendly and respectful due to its culture but they don’t see foreigners as higher than them except perhaps you measure one’s achievement and status in life even between Filipinos.
You are definitely blind. Many Filipinos see foreigners as banks and sometimes take advantage of them. Many Filipinos also seek foreigners for a better life.

I think friendship comes with the length of people living in your life. If we are visiting a place short time, we can expect that we won't have friends.
As a filipino we are thankful and always be grateful to all expats and foreigners coming into the Philippines because you all contributed in the development in any form it might be, financial or information awareness. We'll strive to be hospitable with evryone and respect our co existence and differences so we could live together in peace and harmony
We dont tend to think that foreign were higher than us. Were just used to have some respect with everyone even your an outsider or our countrymen

I am pure Filipino living here in Berlin Germany. Im living in Germany for almost 8 yrs. Berlin is a very international city. so with me as a Pinoy, I look on every races equally. Though me as a Filipino coming from a different culture. it is much more difficult to make friends in a foreign land as well.

One of barriers I think with expats making friends here is that language barrier. Imagine being a pinoy in a tight group and you introduce a foreigner who can’t speak Tagalog. The group now would have to accommodate the expat and speak in English all the time. It surely is draining if you’re not used to it.

I think the people( foreigners) want to blend in to be more acceptances by Filipinos, not just because they are foreigners or they differences. They seem to be wanted as normal people like us and learn more about our culture, lifestyle, beliefs, tradition, food, and more close relationships to ours. It is grateful for them to reside and live here. That's an amazing gesture.
Exactly. But most Filipinos treat foreigners as if they're some sort of savior so the interaction becomes superficial and less genuine. And the Filipinos always long for validation because of their inferiority complex. And this is observation is coming from a Filipino.

Learned something today, Just smashed sub brother. Felt the same way too but I have experienced having a westernian officemate. I and other colleague give him a good tour of the good places to have food and cheap of course, nice place to have a beer with good ambiance etc.

According to my kuya, he never felt loneliness or isolation living/working in Europe because there are many Filipinos there. The only mindset that he don't like with locals was they call filipinos as migrant workers while in the Philippines, we call them foreigner.
Great job on this video. I hope to watch more of your videos. The African-American guy is right to build friendships you need to go and meet people. One of your interviewee, the Russian lady with a small dog, mentioned that she seemed had a hard time making friends in the Philippines...that's her opinion. But, I can say that if she limits herself to find and make friends only to expats but not more with the locals, then indeed, she really would have hard time to meet new friends.
The guy you interviewed at Burgos Circle and the lady in red dress, I admire them for having an open mind and have opened their hearts that to be able to make more relationships in the country, you need to know the culture and the way they are. That is making yourself to level with the locals. Then you would understand them. By moving to a different country and settling there, it is expected that you would build more connections with the locals and yes with the other foreigners too; but you should look forward in meeting and making relationships with the locals.

Personally as a full Filipino, I prefer foreigner friends because they’re more open minded and they’re easier to talk to about anything without judgement.
