    I canceled a 2024 Audi Q8 e tron because of potential range anxiety and ordered my 2024 X5 50e in July 2023, and received it late August. This is my 4th X5, and the most technologically advanced X5, I have ever owned. Hybrid mode which is the default mode with 516 lbs ft torque is science fiction fast from a dead stop. I have been getting 56 average mpg, and 99.5 mpg in hybrid mode, and 36-43 miles per full charge, hopefully this will go up as it seems to be doing. As I was not ready to jump into the deep end of the pool with an EV, this X5 PHEV fit the bill beautifully. If you are considering this X5, you will not be disappointed as it is a whole new world.

      Just to ask you a strange q. Explain how the “hybrid” mode works. Is is using petrol and battery combined or does it use up all the battery first then full petrol mode?
      It’s my first plug in hybrid and all the mpg reviews of bmw I’m seeing they seem to suggest the drive modes are either battery or fuel, and not a combination mode

    My friend has a 45e which he loves. I've had the 50e for a few weeks now and it is great. Doesn't quite handle like my old 530i, but very refined and local driving is all done on electric. And it is still fun to hustle along. The automatic cruise is very useful in stop start/heavy motorway traffic. Finally, it really does get a move on, and is very responsive. It's massively quicker than my old 330i and 530i - it would be able to leave them in the weeds.

      @drunkenwhiskeyeu Před rokem

      Hi there, if I may ask: is there a noticeable difference between the 45e and the 50e? My dealer will have the 50e in a few months and it's gonna be more expensive, and probably they won't be able to give any discounts. Whereas on the 45e... they have a bunch of them in stock.

    • @dgdave2673
      @dgdave2673 Před rokem

      @@drunkenwhiskeyeu- I have the 45e and is very good, just about a year and 10K miles, it’s smooth, quiet, EV to Gas and back so seamless you wouldn’t know. If your dealer has ‘‘em in stock and even at MSRP a good buy. The new one as I configured like to like is about $12K more! That’s a whopping increase unless you crave for little more power. The new one is devoid off physical buttons for all the climate control functions, something I hate to use a touch screen.

    • @nafnaf0
      @nafnaf0 Před rokem

      @@drunkenwhiskeyeu I have the 45e and absolutely love it. I do think the extra range and extra electric power on the 50e would be useful, but I have never driven one. In electric only mode the 45e doesn't have that much power, it is fine for around town under 50mph, but above that it is really lacking. The electric range is also only about 30miles. Again fine for quick trips but it won't get me to the airport and back, work and back, and many of my friends in the city it is just too much for the whole trip. Those aren't major cons though at all. It drives SO SMOOTH and it is SO FAST (launch control will pull you to the back of your seat). I much prefer the interior controls on the 45e over the 50e and I don't quite like the exterior look on the LCI as much either. Both are pretty great though. I certainly would not pay over MSRP on these things, there are many dealers that will give you MSRP, especially now you should probably be able to get about a $2k discount. I got mine (2023 X5 45e) in the middle of last year for MSRP and got the $7500 federal tax credit.

    • @cblandblueyonder
      @cblandblueyonder Před 11 měsíci

      @@drunkenwhiskeyeu the 50e does have a 7kw charger onboard, so you can charge it in half the time. If you can charge overnight, this probably doesn't matter, but I have approx 3hr slots where I can charge mine, so it is very helpful. It is quicker than the 45e, but the 45e is pretty quick anyway, so that probably doesn't matter. It also loses the physical buttons. I would prefer them, but it doesn't matter that much, the touchscreen is a good implementation. The range is around 55 miles, so a bit more than the 45e (I think the range is more in Europe - I believe they've limited it in the US, due to strict US warranty requirements). Mine was new as it is a leased company car with tax breaks, and I had the luxury of building my own spec. But if I was buying it personally, and there was a good saving, the 45e is a great car.

    I have the 2022 M50i and there’s no arguing that the V8 sounds the business along with the amazing pull but the MPG and economy is not something you should think about when going for the V8 … bought it with my heart but now my head is considering the 50e … maybe I’m getting old 😂

  • @nafnaf0
    @nafnaf0 Před rokem +3

    The BMW X5 is an incredible car, especially the 45e and 50e. The X5 is probably the best car BMW is currently making. The rear leg room, however, is not much. It basically the same as a X3. It is not terrible, but disappointing for a car in this class. I would say it is the worst thing about the car (there is not much to complain about though). If you want great rear leg room and a very luxurious interior, check out the Mercedes GLE. Still overall I would say the X5 is much better all-around car than GLE, but the GLE is fairly good, but the X5 is the best in the class.

    I fully support evolution instead of revolution with car designs. But BMW take this to a new level, "incremental creep". Yes, it is way better than the previous model as have ironed out some of the coarser design elements and may be some sense now with the size of their grills, which has been a running joke now for a while. But, the all glass dash, as MB, etc, is problematic. There is a glare and reflection factor that can cause the readouts to be almost illegible and can affect safety. But thank goodness they have finally found a descent grey colour in the palate box. Better and retains the formula.

    iDrive 8 is a disaster in my opinion, but at least they kept the rotary controller on the new X5 50e, the iX1 doesn't have it and its so annoying having to reach across and try and use the touch screen for everything, I had to go back to the X3 30e with the iDrive 7. Hope they keep the rotary controller across the rest of the new line ups with the iDrive 8. X5 is the dream car though, well done BMW
