Mine had that pan she's putting the beans into as she snaps them. Watching Paula snap those beans really takes me back to sitting on the porch with my mom snapping a huge paper bag full of beans or a basket of the ones she grew. She would use bacon a lot of the time if she couldn't find jowl. Wow what memories.

I think they're much better without hog jowls in it. I've been into steaming everything lately after I received a two part stainless steel steamer that you use on the stove. I have yet to find any vegetable that isn't made better by steaming it! I love almost all vegetables anyway, but steaming takes them to a new level and has even gotten my husband to eat brussel sprouts, which is kind of a miracle, lol.

I read somewhere that green beans are almost universally loved by dogs, so I decided to feed them to my dog, Sophie, the pickiest dog in all the world. And she gobbled them right up and wanted more! If you want to try it with your dog just make sure to use unsalted or very low sodium green beans and no hog jowl (too salty). I don't any use animal fat in my beans, but my picky dog loves them anyway.

Memories...my dad always had a garden. My mom always canned green beans every year till she was about 85. My dad liked to watch em' grow! My poor mom worked so hard canning. She canned close to 100 quarts every year. (Big family) But everyone loved her canned green beans. When we were young we would sit outside or in the kitchen and break beans. A family affair! Lol! When I moved out, I used to go over there and see all the beans. I would try to get her to let me take some of them and give them away. She had to can them first! Loved her green beans so much!!!
Then when she cooked hers to serve they were much like yours. Mom's secret ingredient was a little bit of sugar. This makes them look glazed, and taste sooo good! I so miss my mom. Love watching Paula's cooking videos! ❤️🥰😘

    Memories ... 😍😢⚘
Used to sit on my Mamaw & Bapop's giant front porch on their ranch in the summers snapping beans for Mamaw. She was the "bestest cook in the world". I miss her cooking and visits so much.
Thank you, Paula, for bringing back such sweet memories. Mamaw used hamhocks for her main seasoning; no part of meat ever went to waste.
Wish I could find her "Mock Lemon Pie" recipe made with vinegar. My great grandmother created the recipe she used during the Depression as it was impossible to find lemons where my grandparents lived, and it was Mamaw's favorite dessert.
My great grandmother had 12 kids and learned to cook everything cheap, but still really good. Mamaw lost her mother at a young age, but my wonderful paternal great grandmother taught her how to cook and they were very close. Great grandmother, grandmothers, & Mama all gone. Hard because both my parents were only children, no aunts. Wonderful to have the best memories in these hard times ...🕇⚘

Dear Paula, I learned to make my green beans the exact same way. Every year for Thanksgiving I make them. Spent summers with my Granma in Dayton, Ohio back in the 60's! She used a short knife and her thumb to cut off the ends. Once in a blue moon, she would add a can of plum tomatoes, squishing them apart in her hand over the pot. Yum 😋

Hi Paula and Eddy...Paula I'm so glad you're fixing my favorite vegetable and I cook mine the exact same way except I use beef bouillon where you used chicken. I just bought A mess(batch) of green beans and for the first time ever they were so tough even though I cooked them for several hours. Oh well ill eat them anyway. ha ha ha God Bless you LuvYa! Bye from NE Ohio

MY MAMA .... put a hunk of jowl in the pot with our green beans. We always had new potatoes from the garden ....tiny ones, sweet as candy. 😋 WHEN the beans were half done SHE put the little potatoes in with the beans, salt and pepper that's all we needed. Slice of fresh tomato,cornbread....yum

I only grow pole beans in my garden because I'm terrified of snakes. Snakes like to sleep in the shade of bush beans.

I love bush beans. I takes a while to string the beans and then snap them into. My sister put a big piece of beef on bone in hers with beef bullion, salt , pepper. Sometime I use hog jaw, or salt bacon.

My mama makes these just like you... she does take the lid off and let them boil until they almost fry down in the grease. Best things I ever put in my mouth!

When we first moved to Ohio when my mom married my step daddy bk in the 70’s I’ll never forget being introduced to de-stringing beans and watching chickens get their head chopped off and running around the yard with no head. Welcome to the country Jersey girl!

I open up a can or two of Allen's Italian Style, rinse three times under cold water and dump them in a pot and season with salt substitute and sometimes onion flakes or garlic salt. I like mine soft and tender too. Par cooked green beans give me a belly ache. I hope you all just have the biggest time with your family!
