  • Heading to some insane beach camps on Queensland coast, its Stradbroke first and we are excited!
We decided to leave the cold weather after realising we were missing the beach and we headed back up to Queensland to look for a beach camp. We take you a long for the ride and we realise we have had our maps set up wrong for a very long time.
We get the ferry to North Stradbroke Island and share the costs with you for the ferry and the camping and we have to say, we are very excited.
As we approached the beach and had a look at the situation, we realise we were out of our depth and then our trip headed for a disaster.
We hope you enjoy this episode and also learn from our mistakes, please be careful out there and don't be pressured that you have to do anything. Hit the subscribe button and like this episode.

Knowing Stradbroke Island, I personally would have parked up for the night after that stressful day, fortunately you made it safely back to the main land. Compassion needs to be shown in situations like this if the local rangers were to attempt to move you on at any stage. We were all taught about driver fatigue in this country for decades via advertising on T.v from our governments, and especially The Police. Don’t ever feel afraid to speak your mind on this reality you found yourselves in. Sorry you missed out on such a fabulous destination.

I grew up there and know that entrance really well… I learnt to drive on the beaches there with Toyotas. ohh guys I’m so sorry for you. By what I saw on your video I thought you’d be fine. I would have unhitched and gone for a drive. That start is a scare but you would have been fine. Probably that smaller rig gave you a scare…. There is another entrance which they say not to use but you can, tides dependant. Ahhhh what a shame, such a unique experience it is. Hope you get back there, maybe we will come with you!! We get our van in October. Have a great week. Alexandra

Don't stress it. I think you made the right decision for that beach entry . As you said another four max tracks. A long handle shovel and with a buddy it would give you more confidence. You have a lot of money involved with your rig and nothing would have been worse to lose out.. chin up. A learning curve. Cheers.

So so close to paradise. I’m devastated for you guys. You definitely made the right decision though. No fun getting stuck especially when it’s getting dark. We were super nervous taking our Zone Expedition onto Flinders Beach for the first time too. For future reference though you can access Zones A and B from a back track without having to even go on the beach. Hopefully you can get there one day.

Learning to drive on the beach is something you do in cheap 4x4. Not a large American Ute, with an expensive van in tow. Which happens to be your home. You made the correct decision to go back to the main land.

Good lesson to do your home work first , unhook wait for low tide and take a look; talk to the rangers or locals ; bait shop owner and other campers, it’s like a airport runway at low tide. But in the end it’s your money and safety.

Hi Guys sorry to see that you couldn't enjoy your destination but as most have said its better to be safe than sorry, just a thought on the hitch issue i have an F250 and i use the Curt rebellion and found the ride to be good, its a lot cheaper than the Gen y hitch and has a rubber shock absorber in it, i cannot give you a comparison on the Gen y as i considered it to be too expensive. Curt around $600 and Gen y $2000

24:20 That vehicle and van would have made it. I suspect that your quality wheels and tyres would be capable down to 20psi, probably 30 on the rear of the vehicle. It's best to work in 10s. Start at a multiple of ten, then work your way down.
