I’ve popped some Dank Woolies on my street scrambler, and I’ve been ran off the road and had to jump the curb with no other issues than bending my front rim a little. I’ve had it off road on everything from loose gravel roads to single tracks and spent all day touring on it as well. I’ve found it’s super comfy and pretty capable on and off road. Even with all that said I like the benefits that the Ducati has.

But the mighty Desert Sled! I love this bike for 2 reasons: It's dead serious and in that regard a real alternative to the dualsports. And the looks! Can't help but finding the Desert Sled one of the most beautiful bikes on the market.

As much as I like the looks of the triumphs. It looks like they think, " I'll take the same frame, same engine, same suspension etc, call it something else. By throwing different pipes, little more aggressive tires and like you said, a plastic skid plate. And poof! You have an adventure bike. NO! you don't.
Now, the Ducati. You put all those true off road features on it and add turn signals, and other road necessary features on it,,, and it's street usable. Triumphs are sweet, no doubt. But don't call it a scrambler by tossing it a few off road tidbits.

The 1200 XE will be my next Triumph. I love my Street Scrambler and it won't be going away, but I need sometime more aggressive off-road. To me! it is not a simple extra feature but almost a must especially for an off road machine.
Just a pure stupid illustration: when out with my scooter if the battery is weak or whatever is the reason having my kickstarter has avoided me calling any road assistance many times!

Hard to find neutral? Back-in-the-day we'd do what we called 'break the clutch' before we even started the engine. Put it in gear and with the clutch lever squeezed to the handlebar, rock the bike back n forth until the clutch sticktion breaks free. Now you're ready to go. When you come to a situation that dictates a full stop, click it into neutral before you are stopped by 2 to 5 feet. Your previously 'freed' clutch won't drag you through the intersection as you look for neutral.
Love your videos, I have a Desert Sled, and started dirt riding with a '67 TR6C.

Although i barely go off road, I like that there is some ability for that. I haven’t had the find neutral problem, but have 2 dislikes. One is no fuel gauge so having to know how far I’ve driven so I won’t run out of gas, and two, the very hot engine when stopped at a light.

The Desert Sled is more offroad-ready, right off the showroom floor. The aftermarket supports the Triumph 900 well enough with suspension, power parts, and weight-shaving though.
Scramblers used to be built, rather than bought anyway, and some Triumphs look REALLY nice too.
Strip some weight, then swap on some taller, long-travel, fully-adjustable boingers.
As an aside, i think it's hilarious that the little Leoncino Trail 500 I just got my wife has 50mm USD forks. They aren't long-travel or adjustable though.

Just watching this and seeing you pass Sam's Boat. You're probably too young, but man, that place was THE place in the Arboretum area (the horrible "Domain" was vacant acreage) for many years. Tons of bikes used to congregate there (including any one of mine). What's not to like - an outdoor bar, huge deck, live music, lovely ladies, and you could look at yours and everyone else's bikes while slurping down seafood, crawfish and what have you.

I have a mildly built, 2015 Ducati scrambler classic w nearly 12,000 on My miles. Tough ,off-road miles. Yeah, I like good tires and they are expensive but normal cleaning and maintenance as well as Normal Ducati service isn’t. It’s a relatively low tech engine with tons of character. Valve adjustments on these cost more than most people think Because you have to Get the gas tank out-of-the-way, to do it.

I am considering a scrambler but am leaning to the standard Ducati Scrambler Icon, looks to be more comparable to the Triumph. Also, costs less. DS is longer and heavier, suits taller riders. But I do like the DS, I'm conflicted.

@@SWTrailsAndWheels I test rode the T7 and it is off-road biased. Felt underpowered for street use in the US. A viby front at speed doesn't help either. Bikes like the Tiger 900 or BMWs F850GS weigh the same and offer a good compromise.

The statement you made about the difficulty in finding neutral; I had the same problem until I found out the little screw just on the inside of the clutch lever, can be used to adjust the clutch. What's really happening is that your clutch is not fully released it's still pulling a little bit. That's why you think that you aren't getting high torque when you go above 7000 revs per minute but actually that's when the true power kicks in on your Ducati. Your clutch needs adjusting because it's not fully released. You should have a little bit of play, and when you pull the clutch after half a centimeter or so you should hear a tiny little click. Once I calibrated that properly neutral it was instantly easy to find, and the bike started performing better at high reps which is how the bike is supposed to perform in the first place. It's able to perform hi power low revs and high-power Hi-Revs. Get your clutch fixed man. if you are losing power at high revs and I heard you say it doesn't seem to have much power at high revs, that means your clutch is not completely released it's too tight

Sounds like the sled is a good choice if you are inclined to hooliganism and want a streety, cool sounding dual sport look, feel and riding experience.
The Triumph would be a good choice for a three season commuter and/or weekend road tripper in the NE, where the roads suck in the spring and are under construction all summer. Also probably has better baggage options. Backpack commuting sucks.
