In this anime video essay, I discuss what makes the Blue Lock anime and manga stand out from other sports anime titles like Haikyuu!!, Slam Dunk, and Ace of the Diamond. While Blue Lock seems to be a series all about individualism, the story teaches a realistic approach towards improvement. Before the release of season 2 I believe this is a series you should be paying attention to, for how motivational and inspirational the show is.

Blue lock basically says "hey the reason you might not be doing good at (insert thing here) isn't because you don't have enough support or the love of your peers. The reason you might not be doing well is because you just suck at this and you need to take a hard look at yourself and fix it. even if that means you lose people because you suddenly change personalities and start taking self accountability and everyone dont like this try hard version of yourself. Do it anyway.,)
And a lot of people cant handle that blunt fact.

      one, people don't like change
two, people don't want to alone
self improvement alienates you and visibly makes you a target for others to ridicule

I loved this anime beginning to end. It was the first sports anime i ever watched. Hell it's still the only one. I can't wait until season 2. I'll be locked in.

Nah there are a lot of aniitubers out there who actually understands the intricacies of what the story is actually teaching, it's not as simple as "be a ballhog" or "be more selfish" there are a lot of nuances in the story which I have found some content creators talk about

I enjoy Blue Lock overall and i actually love the premise but i dont think the individualism is the only reason why people are put off. Sometimes the players just act like they have never played an actual game. Even some lf the movements in the animation like defenders running with their back to the ball just does not make sense for acrual football movement. Let us take Kuroko No Basket for example. It heightens the reality of basketball skills to like superpowers but they are still actual basketball movements. And some things also just dont make sense like Isagi suddenly realizing how to run behind a defender off ball...thst is something basic he should have already known especially if his skill is sipposed to be his spatial awareness/positioning/smelling a gosl thing...his first game winner in the series was basically him making a run in the defense's blind spot because tbey were preoccupied by another player. It doesnt seem to hsve a true understanding of the sport sometimes with those inconsistent portrayals. All that said, i love it for the premise and it spikes my adrenaline but i do finf myself thinking that some stuff just does not make sense. Apologies for sny typos, i am not good at typing on a small phone keyboard lol

How I understand it is that it's not that isagi doesn't know how to do these things, he just hasn't built his playstyle around it because he doesn't consciously think about how it can affect his game plan. The first goal we see him score involves off the ball movements blind spot manipulation and metavision but he doesn't know to think about those things as tools in his arsenal until he re-writes his playstyle to incorporate those elements.
For example, let's say you have a really powerful shot that lets you shoot from a longer distance but you don't really think about it so it's just something you can do every once in a while. If you become aware of how to make this shot work consistently, you can then re-work your game plan to incorporate the possibility of you using it such as faking shots further away from the goal and make passes to get past defenders. This is why the puzzle imagery is so good. Every time isagi acquires new pieces he can then make a new picture which represents his playstyle.

Really enjoyed this video. I’ve been looking for some good Blue Lock analysis videos that aren’t just… recaps. You define the points of Blue Lock well here on how individualism does not trump teamwork but leads to better organization and strategy when individuals focus on their own strengths instead of trying to force themselves into bubbles for the strength of a team.
I like the central theme that your channel is set out to do here. Surprise to see this analytical approach to anime isn’t more mainstream. Keep up the good work!

    surface level, bluelock is 'edgy'
bluelock's definition of ego is your originality- what makes you different in the same field- in this case, soccer
bluelock is another sports anime- not some new concept
soccer is still a team game but the point of a striker is to score in the end- you can still utilize your teammates and a true striker (leader) delegates the work trusting their team drawing the best of their teammates i.e isagi awakening chigiri nagi barou bachira etc etc
isagi doesn't need to have bachira's dribbles or nagi's trap- direct shot is the ideal finisher for a striker to score goals and by creating a future no one else can catch up to, then isagi scores every time
