- My truck did not have the OEM Trailer Brake Controller installed from the factory, so I installed all the required hardware and then programmed the Instrument Cluster Module, using FORScan version 2.3.19

Great video, very valuable information
A little investment is the correct tools and a man can do wonders. Nice job.
AMEN! Thanks Wyatt.
Pretty quick and painless, once you have the laptop and factory software. Probably saved yourself $300 - at least that seems to be what everyone pays at a dealer for anything, up here in MA. Starts at $300 & goes north from there, lol.
Thanks for sharing, Chris! 👍👍
Thanks Smitty, yep, you need the OHP "ELMconfig Forscan OBD2 Adapter" ($30), a laptop, and the FORScan software(free) to do the programming. I had to buy a Ford Master Brake Cyl with 2 Pressure sensors, and the Ford Trailer Bake Controller. I tried to get my local Ford dealer to make this software change and they could not figure out how to do it, and still charged me $123 for 1 hour diagnostic fee.
@@Chris-Fennimore - That's a typical domestic dealership scenario I hear about about over and over again from so many people. These manufacturers expect their techs to work for free, so this is what happens. Glad you were able to do it yourself! I'm shocked that software was free!
Chris, great video! I have been working on this over the past couple of days. I went through it in the reverse order from you. I installed the controller, went into Forscan and enabled the TBC. The controller lights up, allows me to control the Gain, shows "Trailer Disconnected" on the dash, but it showing "Trailer Brake Module Fault". I'm thinking it's because I haven't replaced the master cylinder and it looks like I have to do that as I only have one plug underneath, towards the front, which I believe it for the cruise control. I'm trying to hunt down the proper master cylinder. When I searched the part number you provided in one of your responses, it has the two plugs underneath but mine also has a plug on the side, near the valves. Any idea on how to hunt that down? When I called my local dealership, they only provided me with the master cylinder that came with my truck, which only has the one plug.
HI, I'm attempting to follow in your footsteps. I have the wiring diagram which reflects 3 wires going to the transducer. The Ford serviceman identified a spare cable that had only two wires. The wire colors appear to be yellow and black. Does this seem like what you found. The unused cable was inserted in a blank female connector that was secured to a larger cable bundle.
Just did everything you did, controller is not lighting up when turning on the truck? I have trailer brake module fault showing but the controller did not light up? can you help me?
How did you get the controller out of the dash
Are these the same pressure switches? Could you just wire both connectors into one to just use one pressure switch?
not the same
I just tried this, Forscan won't let me access any of that. Says I need an extended license subscription.
I believe the Extended License is free, I don't remember. Just goto their website and follow directions for requesting extended license.
@@Chris-Fennimore It's not free per se at this point but you can get a two week free trial.
Did all these steps and still not working! Did i miss something?
Where did you get the new master cylinder with the second plug
For my 2008 F250, it was part 8C3Z2140DB. FORD GENUINE OEM MASTER CYLINDER. It has the 2nd Pressure sensor for the Trailer Brake Controller. Any Ford dealer can get it.
It came with the sensor?
yes
Awesome thanks for all the help!
Thanks, had the same question
