- This week we upgrade our classic mustang's soft and flabby coil and strut stock suspension with stamped sheet metal control arms to a modern day suspension system with coilovers and tubular arm construction with the Billstein coilover suspension system from our sponsor Street or Track!
We'll show you step by step how to take off your old suspension and install this awesome new one and we'll throw in some tips and tricks we learned along the way along with the appropriate safety precautions. If you are interested in the coilover suspension system used in this video, you can find it HERE:

Just a tip For everyone , when Working on coil springs on old fords , use a "internal" spring compressor . The threaded Rod and hooks go inside the coil. It Will give you a lot more Room to compress and remove/reinstall springs !
Good tip!
Also you might want to use a chain inside the coil spring from shoot out if the spring compress fails.
If one knows they're not reusing the spring then leave the shock bolted in place and cut the spring midway down with a torch or angle grinder. The spring will pop at the end but can't go anywhere as it's held in place by the shock. Disassemble from there.
Terrific video, one of the best I've seen on the front suspension for these cars
Might need a creeper! My back hurt just watching 😆
Great video, finally a kit that I won’t have to cut the damn car to pieces for, but 3k is steep
Wow after watching the video a few times I just noticed that the driver's side running horse emblem is backwards! 😲 Lol
My god your right. Well, we'll fix that nonsense rest assured.
I did fast forward to close to the end of the video so I didn't hear the part about the temporary install before disassembly for blasting.
I liked your video. I think most people would be encouraged to also try this themselves. Just a few comments, 1) why not clean and paint the spindle and the frame mounted component areas and 2) thread locker on all component assembly points with the exception of the castle nuts. That's a huge safety issue. Otherwise, it's a very beneficial video.
Because we'll be taking it back off when we go to do body work and blast the body.
how did you get them to sponsor you? curious how that works on growing channels, thanks
Any updates on that DIY 2barrel carb/ adapter VID 😊
Working on it! Lots of irons in the fire. Lol
why not go dual A arm?
I am on a budget and cannot afford disc brakes conversion and suspension at the same. Which one do you recommend I do first?
Your video is awesome and your safety tips are priceless. Great job.
Suspension first. This suspension is compatible with the OEM drum brakes and aftermarket disc brakes.
@@enginegremlin thank you so much for your reply. I am asked questions before in other videos with no response. You are awesome 😎👍 thank you.
is there just a shock and coil over the at can be installed in place of the or spring? Everything is original “new” parts except the springs on my 71 Mach one
So regrettable there is no off the shelf product like that that I am aware of. You COULD modify the mount points for the strut and put a coilover in its place and put in a shelby drop while you're at for the stock arms but I make no promises on performance for something like that. As long as your handy with a welder and a grinder (as a bare minimum), it shouldn't prove too difficult.
Paint ? After drilling holes for upper arm.
We're gonna be blasting the body so we didn't bother with paint at this time.
Mr Shelby had no problem using the original system racing, ok?
El tren delantero es muy parecido o igual al Ford Falcon
Please tell me you upgrade the front brakes at the same time
We will. Just not until after we've blasted the car. Full discs front and back
Not trying to be a smartass but why didn't you upgrade the stabilizer links and sway bar? Just curious.
It's a fair question. The answer is we are/did. We gave a 1.25" OD sway bar with new bushings and linkages and we'll be upgrading the steering mechanism later as well. We didn't feature the sway bar in this video because it's a pretty straight forward upgrade and this is a temp install for us since we're going to strip it down and blast it soon. That's why we just mentioned in the video that this the perfect time to upgrade your sway bar. Hope that answers your question.
@@enginegremlin yes it does and looking forward to more videos. Gonna subscribe now!
Old swaybar bushings still used????
We're replacing and upgrading to a 1 inch sway bar and we're going to take the suspension out to blast the body. We do make a recommendation in the video to replace all the bushings when you install new suspension.
How can I get a price on cole over kit 1966 mustang coupe
Head on over to Stret or Track's website at streetortrack.com/suspension/. Link is also in the video description.
Dude why you didn't stand back and take a picture of the suspension you install
Why drum BRAKES & 4 LUG WHEELS ??? & STILL HAVE OLD RUSTY TIE RODS..
Those are a later update. The focus was on the suspension itself. We're using discs and fice lugs on all four corners.
Mustang emblem is backwards
First
Pigs foot!!
Never "Crimp" your brake lines!,,, Interesting suspension upgrade.. Never torque the lower control arm inner bolt, always torque the nut, else you will change the alignment or end up rounding out the bolt hole in the offset plate, that side towards the camera...
Ours were old and cracked and are getting replaced but good tip.
It's a shock absorber, not a strut 🤣😂
Also not a export brace, support brace from the firewall.
