    This is a really great video! I
    Wish I had a shred of your talent. Now I’m on the search for a mouth slider for my other harps and have been on the hunt for a used s-48b.

    Hi, D A V I D , QUESTIONS --- Do you believe in "breaking in" in reference to brand new chromatics or disassembling and re-adjusting an imperfect reed or two? And what percentage of brand-new stock chromatics are virtually fully and perfectly playable RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX? In recent years I've found some of the Chinese-made (SWAN, KMISE, FORERUNNER BY EASTOP & EASTOP generally) to be pretty good chromatics, esp. often playing optimally OUT OF THE BOX, although having played the chromatic (as well as diatonic) harmonica for decades, I still am often in the habit of tweaking brand new chromatics I buy. Thanks so very much for your videos and your response busy as you are.

      Not sure if this answers your question, but I too open up every single one of my harps and customize the gapping and reed shapes to my liking. It’s the easiest and most effective way to greatly improve the responsiveness and overall playability. On diatonics, I go steps further and flat sand the draw plate to air-tight mate with the comb, and I perform some light embossing to bring out the OD/OB’s.

    Why mention Kongsheng lyra or easttop in the description of those aren't shown in the video? It's a shame as I was looking forward to seeing how those 2 paired against the others

    Q U E S T I O N --- David, to adjust/readjust the reeds on the CX12 DESIGN once the cover, or housing, is removed, unlike traditional chromatics, the slide doesn't stay in place easily and it becomes more than a chore to work on the CX12 reeds. Isn't there a contraption to use to alleviate this painful ordeal? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and have you - or Brendan Power, et al - considered this problem and that a small gadget that would help CX12 users to more conveniently readjust reeds on the CX12? Thanks in advance, and I'm very grateful for your videos.

    That Seydel Saxony is just beautiful and rich in sound. I do have only one question though. When would one want an orchestra tuned vs solo tuned harp? What are the advantages of each?

    • @mastersofharmonica6200
      @mastersofharmonica6200  Před 2 lety +2

      I deal with this extensively in videos on orchestra tuned seydel saxony, essentially the orchestra tuned provides the sweet spot of a 16, like taping first two holes and last two holes of a 16. You can play alot on an orchestra tuned harp in 12 hole package.

    Are there any chromatics that don’t have the tonic note repeat in holes 4 and 5 ? I think it’s also on holes 8 and 9. Is there a harmonica where this does not occur? If so, that’s the one I want to try.

    I have two questions. One, do you sell those sliders you make and if so do you make one for a Echo chromatic harmonica? Two, how did you learn harmonica, by a teacher or books?
    Thank you so much,
    Noah.

    • @mastersofharmonica6200
      @mastersofharmonica6200  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Noah...I make the Sliders, go to Mastersofharmonica.com...send message via Contact link up top. I learned harmonica by training as a classical singer, performing for over 25 years, studying composing, method, piano, sax, guitar, etc. I wrote the book "Love Of Chromatic Harmonica...Techniques and Advice From The World's Best!" because there was no detailed METHOD book for me to use. I've been working with harmonica about 5 years total. I had private lessons from chromatic harmonica wizard Emile D'Amico.

    Hi teacher, I hope you are well. For someone who likes to play classical music like Beethoven, which model of Hohner chromatic would you recommend?

    • @mastersofharmonica6200
      @mastersofharmonica6200  Před 2 lety

      The idea that a given harp is best for a particular genre of music is a misnomer. Harps on my good harp list are Seydel Saxony, Seydel Symphony, Suzuki Gregoire Maret, and at low low cost, the Easttop EAP Performer.

      I actually prefer the tone of the customized Hohner Super 64, over the 64x. Brighter. Of course both were heavily customized to improve tone. Both are superb instruments. I personally play the older black and gold Hohner Super 64x and feel its tone is lovely.
