  • The story of friendship, loyalty, and love of Dr. Jose Rizal and Don Mariano Hamoy
This was the residence of Don Mariano Balsomo Hamoy and his wife, Doña Pilar Sagario y Acaylar. Completed in 1893, the couple moved into this house following their marriage in the same year.
Don Mariano Balsomo Hamoy was a Cabeza de Barangay and a Municipal Scribe and was highly regarded in government and society. He attended the Ateneo Municipal in Intramuros, Manila, where Dr. Jose Rizal was his senior. During Rizal's exile in Dapitan, he and Don Mariano became close friends and business partners in the abaca trade. In 1894, Mariano and Doña Pilar's firstborn, Pablo, was delivered to this house by Rizal himself.
Restoration commenced in 2020 and lasted until 2022 during the COVID-19 pandemic under the direction and care of a direct descendant, Peter Dominic A. Hamoy, and his wife, Kathlyn Uyehara.
