- This video was taped by Doug Champion at Chris Pennie's drum clinic on 05/25/06 at the New Brunswick, NJ Guitar Center.
I just recently (08/16/07) made this video public because of the other public clinic videos from different youtube users.
Nearly a decade since it was uploaded, and this is still one of my favourite drum videos.
At the beginning, he's playing a jazz-type bridge from When Good Dogs Go Bad. There's always been a fair amount of jazz in Dillinger Escape Plan, you just might not have been noticing it.
Still love this
Goddamnit why did he have to leave DEP, his drumming was immaculate
This is absolutely amazing.
Dilinger and chris are badass as hell
great video. i was there. is there anyway you can send me the video/dvd of the whole clinic? i'm in jersey and i'll pay for postage and supplies
He is super popular in the young drumming world! Deserves it though
Such good technique. AAAGH!
I would do anything for a CD of his drumming
Danny Carey's good but this guy is a monster in comparison.
Dude, c'mon... It's a Dillinger song. What do you want him to name it?
'Metal section'?
It IS the jazz section of the song.
phone home has a fucking sweet groove
@skinlessdwarf Speaking about Portnoy, it would've been awesome if Pennie auditioned for the spot as DT drummer, walking in with just a jazz setup
@Cambridgeworks have you heard anything from Option Paralysis? not even close to main stream. MARCH 23rd cannot come fast enough.
I understand. I would leave Dillinger. I just wouldn't join Coheed. I'd try to start something new and as groundbreaking as Dillinger.
totally appropriate...
@kraastopher coheeds pretty groundbreaking if you ask me, i think i understand what you mean though
if they battled, the world would end
@klaslagerqvist good point there!
@skinlessdwarf
amen brother
agreed
@skinlessdwarf dont we all
@Smoerbyttan I see what you did there.
Becuase i totally think that coheed is shitty.....right. I like both bands, but i just prefer coheed more. I can still appreciate how crazy good dep is though.
These are the parts of real interest. The rest is talking and I don't feel like editing it down/finding the tapes.
Hahaha this guy, everybody! Oof.
i like him so much more than portnoy
lmao
dillinger has some Jazz Sections ,but good dogs definetly doesnt have one.....
lol i was expecting something a bit jazzy given the title but it was far from it
I love Chris Penny but I hate jazz wankery. I do like some jazz though.
Well I was paying attention to this video and he plays nothing like jazz at all. He's a good drummer, and I'm not one to nitpick, but I was searching for jazz and got this.
Please label videos correctly.
Danny Carey is really nothing special, he may in fact be one of the many overrated drummers ever.
dillinger isn't ground breaking. its trash. the guitars are just acrobatic, and don't prove your skill as a musician. the screams are garbage. and the bass... well the bass sucks. it isnt that coheed can't be technical, because there is a song where they prove to be as crafty as dillinger, Ever listen to Guns od Summer ? Coheed is melodic, while dillinger just defies the laws of melody. yea dillinger s interesting, but i dont consider them ground breaking. there are tons of guitarists like them
