    Great video. This is by far the most detailed review for the squad leader on YT! I could have used this a lot a few years ago when I had to decide on a bark river.

    You can mount the sheath with the stamps in the belt loop an a Taklock as quick attachment, that soled me the knife as I wear Cobra buckles and hate unfiddeling the belt to use a looped sheath.

    • @martinhuhn1433
      @martinhuhn1433 Před 3 lety

      @@ewreck661 don't worry too much about the sharpening! I normally strop my squad leader (with cpm 3v) from time to time on a paddle strop. That's it. I just had to sharpen it on a stone once after 3 years of heavy bushcraft use when it hit a rock... Sharpening a convex grind is easy in comparison to a good scandi for example.

    Paprika=Bell Pepper. The thing in the middle I would just call the seed core in the North Western USA. If you want to get technical and discuss pepper anatomy you just cut out the seeds, placenta, calyx, and pedicel.

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety +1

      Bell Pepper! Deep down, I think I knew that word. Or I knew it at some point in my life, lol. And seed core does sound logical to me. This will help me out in my future videos! :D The pepper anatomy terms though; placenta, calyx and pedicel, may bit a bit overkill for me, but I really appreciate your effort in teaching me more. It's always a good thing to expand your vocabulary. Thank you!

      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety

      Thank you, Chris! I'll try to make more videos in the future, to cover more parts of my collection. I never intended to make videos of all of my knives, but only of knives (specific models) that was readily available for people to pick up, but I do have quite a number of interesting knives that def. deserves some screen time, just for people to take a look at. And even if some models are not readily available, there's always an aftermarket. Once again, thank you Chris for dropping by and leaving me a comment!

    Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences in such a detailed effort! I appreciate that very much, even though your video was a bit too long for my impatience. ;) So I might have missed the information I'm going to ask for now. If so, I'm sorry! :D Well, I'm also owning a Squadleader in A2 and been wondering since, what the purpose of that quite big notch at the ricasso might be? That's because it just bothers me using the knife like I'm used to with other knives, especially when choking up while hard push cutting (uncomfortable and less control). Mostly this notch is referred to as for ferro rod striking, but mine is rounded and blunt, so I'm not able to throw any sparks this way. The spine on my SL is much more suitable for this anyway! Other purposes for notches in this position I know of are finger choils for shoking up or sharpening notches to aid a proper sharpening of the cutting edge heel. But this notch works neither for one nor the other... I can't find a proper use for it, biut I also can't imagine that on a BRK design cutting edge length had simply been given away just for looks?! BTW: on SL2 there is no notch like this... Without that notch and a cutting edge reaching right to the handle, angle control while push cutting harder materials like wood would have been much better, especially with such a tall blade. I have tried to get a satisfactory answer in various forums, but so far without success. What's your opinion an that, do you have a use for that notch?

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety

      Thank you for watching, and for your comment! I'll have to admit though that I'm not sure of the purpose of the small notch on the Squad Leader. I'll have to look into that and get back to you, but right now, I don't use it for anything particular, other than a really small finger choil, which is not really optimal, while still being semi-functional. If only I had thinner fingers, heh ...

    That wood that you were carving at 1:27:56 sure looked alot like fatwood and there was even resin on your blade after battoning it... Maybe give it a sniff and if you smell that strong piney scent then throw a spark at it and see 🤷‍♂️

  • @JoeDoomsday

    Awesome Collection. What do you do to maintain/sharpen these blades? I understand that they can be sent back to Bark River and they will sharpen them for you. I was just wondering what You do ?

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety +1

      I use a strop, different grit sandpaper (240-2000) and black and green compound. To be honest, I usually just go with black compound on the strop.

    Great review, but you didn't talk about the new sheath. What do you think of it?

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety

      I could have sworn I recorded a short segment of the new sheath-design, but I must have missed to add it in the video! Well, all in all I think the new sheath is a nice design; I might even prefer it over the original tbh. However, a dangler is a must for me. I use the Casstrom No.3-dangler for it when I belt carry the knife.

    Great review pleas make them shorter

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Coley! It sure is a model that looks awesome, but I'm a bit surprised about the ergos of the handle not working for you. Then again, we all have slightly different sized hands, with different knife-handle prefences in terms of thickness, length, contouring etc. My favorite Bark River-handles, at least on top of my mind and in terms of non one-of handles, are probably the handles for the Aurora-series and Kalahari-series. Lastly, I agree about the length of the review, it's too long. I'll make sure future reviews are shorter. Thanks for the input!

  • @wyatthines153
    @wyatthines153 Před 3 lety +1

    i see you always have multiple of the same blades with different handles and steel and stuff but how many bark river knives do you have in total?

    • @PinkG10
      @PinkG10  Před 3 lety +1

      I tend to get multiple knives of the same model, if it's a model I kind of like, but if I have already made a video for the model, let's say the Wilderness Explorer, then I don't make another video showing the new additions (currently at seven or eight WE's for example). In terms of a specific number of BRK's, let's just say I have a lot of them by now. ;)
